I have some horrific news to report. A transwoman was attacked at a McDonalds in Baltimore. She was so severely beaten that she went into a seizure. One thing that really disturbed me, in addition to this woman getting beaten, is that patrons (except for one older lady) and staff (it appears the manager did try to help) of the restaurant did nothing to halt the attack. Instead cell phone cameras were turned on to video the whole attack. My heart goes out to this woman and I sincerely hope that she makes a full recovery. She may require financial help with her medical bills. If so, I intend to donate and I will post a link here of where others may donate.

It is indeed a horrific act ... first and foremost by the 2 girls thugs who beat up the transwoman ... and then just as horrific none of the McDonalds employees coming to her aid (except for the Manager & older lady). It's almost as if everyone in there felt they were watching a reality television show with no consequences ... sad.

My heart goes out to the transwoman for a full recovery and I hope the two girls thugs are prosecuted to the fullest extent ...........

and in some way one can only hope that by this clip going viral that it will ultimately give more attention to the need for equal rights everywhere for trangendered people as loved human beings in society.

As of late last night, the LGBT alliance at my university is in touch with Equality Maryland to find avenues for providing financial assistance for medical treatment and to discuss how to pressure the state of Maryland to prosecute this as a hate crime.

On youtube, I found a video where a guy is congratulating the people who stood and watched
Anyway in this video he uses the term "trap"

It is quite disheartening that this happens as often as it does. I don't just mean with the woman that was beaten in the article, but the fact that there are so many cowardly people that prefer to take pictures or videos just so they can be the "first" to post them on YouTube or other social media.

Numerous fights, stabbings, and other violent crimes have had this occur. I just don't understand the mentality of people today. It's like their empathy "button" is turned off. I don't blame video games or television like some of the "experts" do. I think that people need to take responsibility for their own actions(or lack thereof, in the case of idiotic bystanders that would prefer to "egg on" the thugs perpetrating these acts of cowardice).

Standing by and doing nothing because your life could seriously be in danger(a person could have a weapon for one thing) is one thing, but standing by acting like you are at a party is another. In this case I think the women could have been prevented from further hurting the woman being attacked, but the majority of people chose not to. While not as guilty as the cowardly woman doing the attacking, they are certainly guilty of gross indifference.

I just hope the woman makes a full recovery (and I hope that her continued progress can be posted in this thread), and that the two gutless pukes get sentenced to a decent amount of jailtime.

Texas' GOP House of Reps, noble guardians of our morality, have passed a bill requiring any public college with a resource center on "alternative" sexuality to provide equal funding to one promoting "traditional values," presumably like date rape and other beer-fueled heterosexual rampages. Young Conservatives hope this will ultimately close centers that "encourage folks who consider themselves homosexuals to go on considering themselves as such." Because God forbid we are allowed to be who we feel ourselves to be. People march here, an outraged protest here.

Equal time? You've got to be fucking kidding me. The entire culture is heteronormative. You don't need counseling centers for people for straight people. How often are heterosexuals attacked because they're straight?

This is like the people who claim same sex marriage is a special law because it's only for one specific group, which completely denies the fact that only heterosexuals can get married.

Today I raised a motion in the faculty senate at my university to protest this outrage at Oklahoma State University, where a faculty member has been denied tenure because she is a transsexual and her "lifestyle" is offensive to the Baptist beliefs of the vice president of academic affairs. I also submitted a motion to specify that our university can NEVER use any such reason for denying tenure (not that we would, but it's good to put it on the record).

I'm not familiar with rules in US, but I don't understand, what religious beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientations and transgenderism have to do with State University? State University must be equal for all citizens, students and stuff without discrimination. Private faculties could have some different rules, because they are private property and it depends on owners.
