Not likely, what politicians say and what they do have little connection. In spite of the critical deficit they are not willing to bite the bullet, take fiscal responsibility and severely cut spending. The millions for new engines for the strike fighter is a case in point. The military doesn't want them but Congress wants to spend the money that we don't have anyway.

There is, but most people are too lazy and self serving to do anything to correct it. Seeing as how it would be too much of a hinderance on their ability to watch American Idol and bloat themselves with twinkies, most would rather be happy being entertained and being ignorant of the world around them than stand up and take a second to realize how fast the boat is sinking.
