I think she certainly got hosed by the Judge in this case, who as the story notes decided things on a rather wacky level or outright misinterpretation of certain penal codes. On the other hand, while Aries666 post tells the STORY of what happened, we don't have access -- at least not yet -- to what has actually happened behind the scenes with regards to her appeals and other legal actions. Obviously, if she's still sitting in a jail cell, those things have either not gone well or fallen on deaf ears. Or she's just flat out had some pretty shitty attorneys.

So, to that end, I agree with someone who noted that it's a shame that the porn community (apparently) never bothered to chip in and get her a first rate lawyer to appeal and retry the case.

Interesting question: has anyone actually ever tried writing to her in jail to get an update or get more of the story, from her point of view?

Your first paragraph assumes there's been an appeal of some sort, which we don't know. See my last post...appeals are very time consuming and expensive, and can take years to complete. An unfortunate fact of the legal system, but very true.

Sorry if I phrased things a bit awkwardly. To be honest, I wasn't assuming that. In fact, that's why I said "while Aries666 post tells the STORY of what happened, we don't have access to what's actually happened behind the scenes with regards to her appeals and other legal actions." I was just trying to acknowledge that she may...or may not...have entered an appeal, but we don't know "what" ever happened since all we have to go by is an old post from years ago.

Of course, I still think it's shitty -- given the overall story of what happened to her -- that the porn community never chipped in and got her a proper lawyer to appeal the case. And the only reason I say that...and the reason I presume that's true...is because IF that had actually happened, I'm sure it would have made the porn world news circuits (for example, the AVN web site) and you'd be able to Google Sylvia's name and find SOME kind of updates on her case. I mean, if nothing else, assuming that any kind of appeal was filed, you'd think that any competent lawyer would have been out talking to any media outlets that would have been willing to listen to him, to get some kind of emotional support working in her favor.

What I find interesting is that the only information that still seems to be available is that old, lengthy post which has been re-posted in TS forums again and again and again. But I've never seen any kind of follow-up AFTER that post, nor if you Google and do any kind of digging can you seem to find out very much beyond it. Which again, leads me to believe that either NOTHING ever happened with the appeals process (perhaps due to money or other factors on Sylvia's side of things) OR (as you noted, Jimkski) maybe something was filed, but it's gathering dust and moving along at a snail's pace.

Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh, but it's sometimes hard to tell tone from a post. Also, Sylvia was probably my first "real" TS love (at first sight), so I really feel bad about this case. That said, you do have a good idea about writing her and seeing what's up. I assume she's incarcerated under her given birth name, so if anyone knows what that is, I would be willing to write her on my letterhead and see what's going on with this. Also, if anyone knows what prison she's in and/or her date of birth, that would be helpful. I may be able to track where she is with just her name (many states have inmate locators online), but as much information as possible would help. I'll take a PM or general message.

...okay, after posting this I checked the lengthy story of what happened to Sylvia and see that it has her birth name, so I'll do what I can with that, but if anyone has the institution she's incarcerated at and/or her date of birth, that would still be helpful.

Apparently an appeal was filed in January 2007. I cannot find out anything further than that.

I actually wrote a letter to her 2 or 3 years ago, but I did not get a reply. The letter did not come back either, so perhaps it was delivered. I am sure that the types of letters that she would receive would not always be of the "respectful" type. While I will not mention exactly what I wrote, let's just say I kept it on a serious, heartfelt level.

It looks like Sylvia's appeal was heard and also denied. The last line is "The judgement is affirmed". I found this online a few minutes ago....
