<--- is a vegetarian because I'd never be able to perform the act of killing an animal, skinning it, and gutting it. Since I wouldn't do that it hardly seems ok to eat it. I also have HUGE problems with the ways animals used for food are treated/raised.

One fact about human ominvorious diet is the way we digest food. Meat takes a long time to digest in the body (compared to other animals who require more meat like cats), the thought is that meat is intended to be a suppliment to a mostly plant diet. The exact opposite has become true in the west where vegitables are the suppliment to huge portions of meat.

I don't insist on others being vegetarian. It's my own personal decision and one based on my own ethics. That said, I feel no compulsion to cook it for someone else in my home. In turn, I wouldn't give someone grief for eating a steak in front of me (veil I'd have to really try not to say something though).

BIONCA,

You wouldn't be you if you didn't say something in the most polite way possible w/o ruining the other person's dinner.

I've heard the human body wasn't designed to consume meat, but you appear to have looked into it. Can you offer up a few other facts of any kind?

Thanks leggy blonde,

TAL

Well, I haven't really researched it in any depth, and I haven't really thought about it for a while. Thus, my information may be off or out-dated. The thing is, the stomach produces an enzyme to digest beef and pork - stop eating those for a time, and the body won't produce the enzyme. If you then eat beef or pork you have a horrid time trying to breakdown the meat and from my own experience it is good to stick close to a bathroom.

Since digestion of the meat requires a purely optional very specialized enzyme to digest, this leads me to believe that eating beef and pork to be purely optional and removing them from the diet neither harmful or beneficial (as many vegetarians will try to tell you). Thus beef and pork (and horse, deer, elk, goat .. "red" meat") are more of a bonus to get additional amino acids and protein. While the body requires vitamins that come from vegitables to function.

To each their own, IMHO. I eat lots of red meat, mainly because I'm currently trying to put on some pounds and every bit of protein helps. To be honest, I don't know if I could go without eating steak ever again, it tastes too good. The same can be said for pork, chicken, and other meats that I eat. I do not eat them because I feel we're on this earth to eat animals, I eat them because they taste delicious.

As far as Vegetarians and Vegans saying they're right, or vice versa with meat eaters believing we're here to eat animals; it's silly and should not be argued. Unfortunately though it's human nature for everyone to think they're right.

I have very harsh feelings for PITA, and other such organizations that try to force their beliefs on everyone else solely because what they have seen in a few slaughterhouses. If they choose to be vegans, then that is wonderful, I admire their courage and strength to be different...and to stand up for what they believe in. However, when they attempt to put themselves on a pedestal, or try to put organizations out of business because of what they do, I have a problem.

Wow, if that even makes sense to everyone I'll be happy, it's early and that was one weird rambling of words

BIONCA,

Thank you.

I heard the stomach forces out foreign substances rather quickly, which would explain that anomaly.

Early man did not eat meat until he saw other animals doing it, and most animals were not afraid of us until they became lunch and dinner.

From a biological view the best food would be a bit more herbal food.
Ecological it would be better to eat much more herbal food. (But meat is so delicious)
The human body needs parts of herbal and animal food. Most vegetarian can get it form milk, eggs or some kind of that, thats OK.
The extrem of both sides is very problematic, but possible.
The healty aspect can not reduced on to much meat. It depends more on partial food, too fet food and too less movment. But it would be better to eat a bit less meat.

Pro meat:
The biggest part of the Inuit food are animals (seal, walrus, wale, caribou) and only a small part fruit.
The beef tapeworm and the poke tapeworm are parasites. The human is the only host in their last stadium. The only way to infect is over eating pigs or beef. Only if it's raw or bad headed. This worms live as long as mankind and they need humans to live. So humans have eaten meat from the begining.
