They are probably cringey and offensive by today's standards, but when I was a kid, I was always drawn to those episodes of Maury and Jerry Springer where they did the whole "man or woman" thing. I haven't thought about it in a while, but those were probably some of my first exposure to anything trans related.

Don’t know what made me go search for this today but I did. “Miracles Still Happen” is the true story of Juliane Koepcke a teen-age girl who survived a plane crash in the Amazon jungle, Christmas 1971. She is still alive today and is a Mammalogist.
It must have been on TCM. Late at night, alone in my room, going through the channels, the previews looked intriguing (A really cute blonde in a very short and torn dress wandering through a jungle all wet and sweaty? What boy could resist?) The actress who played her, Susan Penhaligon, ![]() ![]() was 24 or 25 at the time, so the pics from the movie should be OK to post.Anyway, I’m pretty sure my Mom was asleep, but I locked the door to my room just in case. You get the idea… Since then I have seen Susan in other movies. She was very beautiful and a good actress. ![]() ![]() (Tragically, about two or three years before I saw this movie, Detroit had one of the worst airline disasters in US history when an MD-82 crashed on takeoff. Ironically the only survivor was a young girl. For many years you could see the new section of I-94 where it had come down. I would make my first flight a few years later on the same runway. I was scared shitless then I thought about this movie and that night. My Mom said to my Dad: “Andy must like flying, look at how he’s smiling…” )

“Jungle Movies” are probably one of the places where guys experience scantily-clad beautiful women for the first time. Another movie I remember was “Sheena” starring Tanya Roberts.
![]() ![]() ![]() “Sheena” was one of the first VHS rentals my mom got for me. I guess she thought it was all right since it was rated “PG” or something. There is a scene early in the movie where Tanya is topless taking a shower under a waterfall. She also is bound and almost thrown from a helicopter by bad guys. Never told my mom about that… ![]() “Miracles Still Happen” is a good movie. I guess I should’ve felt guilty jacking off over a girl who just lost her family in a plane crash but when you are a kid you don’t stop to think about stuff like that. Anyway, I just thought Susan was really cute and sexy and well… you know. I watched the whole thing and was glad she was finally rescued. At the time I didn’t know it was based on a true story. Never have seen it since—she must have made a big impression on me that I would still remember her today. Sort of like your first girlfriend…![]() ![]() Out of curiosity I looked her up yesterday and discovered her son is older than me. And that is a true story about Detroit and my first plane ride. As we were headed down the runway, I thought about Susan (not the crash in the beginning of course) and it made me feel better. Since then I have flown more times than I care to remember. On business, with my college football team, and with my family on vacation.
