I don't know what it is about the retro look but I probably associate it with what I liked to see as a kid watching TV, big hair, shimmery dresses, etc.

Yep- that's exactly what it is. Last weekend I was up late watching TV and the old Batman show came on. The episode featured Carolyn Jones as the villainess Marsha Queen of Diamonds. (First pic) I remember seeing the episode as a child and even though I didn't understand my feelings at he time, I really liked seeing her all dolled up and acting seductive. Julie Newmar as Catwoman ( second pic) had the same effect. Few things were as exciting to my ten year old mind as these ladies! The episode last weekend had a scene where Marsha was dancing around and another where she was wearing a colorful rubber raincoat and had her hair up so I was in heaven.

Fast forward a few years when I first saw Ru Paul's Supermodel video and those feelings came flooding back. It was like discovering girls all over again.

Because it’s a very feminine and sexy look. The 40’s through 60’s seem to be a “golden age” for glamour. I discovered “Batman” in reruns (the TV show became popular again with the release of the movie in 1989). Julie Newmar as "Catwoman" is totally hot and was the primary reason I watched it. She would become one of my first celebrity “crushes.” On a side note I bet “Batman” was also responsible for introducing millions of kids to bondage.

Julie was originally an actress and dancer on Broadway and won a Tony Award. I believe she is almost 6’ tall and has an IQ of 150 or something. Beauty, brains, and talent. What’s not to like! Here’s a few pictures of her “pre-catwoman.”

Interesting fact I never knew before. Her dad, Don Newmeyer, played football for the Los Angeles Buccaneers (of the old NFL) from 1926-27. He is listed at 6'2" 205.

Since we’re somewhat on the topic of beauties from the past, “Wonder Woman” I’m sure, was also responsible for helping to create bondage enthusiasts among kids born from say, the late 60’s to the early 80’s.

Again, like "Batman," I discovered the show in reruns. In every episode it seemed like she was getting tied up in some way. In fact, the first time I ever tied up a girl, it started out with us playing “Wonder Woman.” Too young at the time really for it to go any farther, the experience was still a definite “turn on” for me—I think for her too—as it was actually her idea. Wonder whatever happened to her?

Cartoonists and the Internet of course have taken the concept far beyond what the TV show of the 70’s allowed with some very “explicit” drawings. The picture below is actually quite “tame.” Notice any “phallic imagery”? Neither did I…

Not to turn this into a cosplay thread but I remember when Wonder Woman was first on the air. I was too young at the time to appreciate Lynda Carter but I am so glad Sunny Deelite was also inspired by Wonder Woman.

Out of all the women to play Catwoman, Julie Newmar is the most iconic. She certainly inspired a lot of people to adopt her look, including Jessie Flores and some other ladies.....

I see a couple of Bobbie's photos are stamped "1943." Can you imagine what it must have been like for her back then? Things aren't all that great in 2017 either...
