Spit is ok as a last resort method but it can dry while the finger is still inside.
If I'm out of lube, I use olive oil and it works pretty well. I would recommend putting a disposable towel underneath though as oils can stain the bed sheets badly.

Google "home made anal lubricant" - plenty of recipes made from everyday ingredients.

A lot of recipes mention coconut butter / oil but I did read one that said that coconut has antibacterial properties - potentially damaging your gut flora.
