I thought that Shemales were boys with all their equipment intact who managed to make themselves LOOK feminine, usually with silicon assistance,

whereas MtF Transexuals were people who had done all the hormones and operative thing and were to all intents now girls, albeit without childbearing capability.

No. "Shemale", as a term, goes back to the very early 20th Century, as a pejorative term for feminists and aggressive women. Bh the 1970s, it became essentially co-opted by the porn industry to refer trans women.

As a personal term of identity, it's used by only a handful of people, of varied experience (some, as you describe, others, closer to the TS woman side of the spectrum), even though most other transsexual women consider it insulting.
