Doing it the way you say is the smartest thing to do. Your safety is far more important than a person's potential hurt feelings that you don't go with them right away. You are correct that there are a lot of nutbars out there. It is an unfortunate fact of life.

I would say Craigslist would be best place to start and depending on where you live, you can get good results. I've hooked up with couple of hot girls through CL. You can post your ad also or reply to theirs.
