Being hydrated is the key as many others have mentioned. You should be able to recover to a full capacity load after about 24 hours maybe a bit more if you are over 50. Getting it plenty hard and keeping it that way should be more of the concern. A lot has to do with how turned on you are as well as how comfortable you are with the situation. I am over 50, I also am diabetic (and some other stuff I won't bore you with).

I do have an issue with keeping my "Johnson" hard, even when I am still feeling "excited". Other times ejaculation is an issue, where I can feel like my giz is right at the tip.

You are definitely correct about how stress effects this. When I get self-conscience about it, it definitely makes it harder (or literally software).

Diabetes does have an effect on getting blood to ones extremities and medication for diabetes and hypertension can also have an effect and it seems like it does with me.

I do think the mental stuff is very important, however, I don't have an recommendations or solutions on this. I will not take Viagra or the equivalent for this, because I also have Hep C and most prescription medications like Viagra can have a negative effect on my liver.
