I know Jen, I'm not looking forward to the game.

Then it's back to Philadelphia for a rematch on Saturday. Put the Flyers down for a pair of comfortable wins.

Jen, what do you think of them waiving Leighton? Do you think it could turn around and bite them in the butt come playoff time if he ends up being claimed by another team?

I can understand why they made the move as he was the weakest preformer of the three goaltenders this season

Sadly the Flyers haven't had a main solid goaltender since Ron Hexstall

To be fair, he only played in the one game(due to offseason surgery). The reason I think they may end up regretting this is that he has shown that he is good under the pressures of the playoffs. Boucher hasn't proven himself and the other goalie has never been in the playoffs(as far as I know).

That's 1-9-0 in the last ten.

Jen, that's a successful part one for the Flyers, I just hope it's a fairly close game on Saturday.

I thought I was going to get a repeat of the gold medal game with the Leafs last night! They had a 5-2 lead and then totally fell asleep! Thankfully they were able to pull off the victory and win 6-5 in the shootout.

Here are some other scores:

1. Philadelphia beat New Jersey 4-2. And the losses keep mounting up for the hapless Devils. And they don't even have a 1st round pick this year, having lost it to Atlanta in the Kovalchuk trade. I feel your pain, dauls!

2. Minnesota beat Boston 3-1.

3. Montreal beat Pittsburgh 2-1 in the shootout even though they were outshot 32-23.

4. Edmonton beat the Islanders 2-1. Thank goodness! I was getting a little worried seeing them climb up so close to the Leafs in the standings!

5. Buffalo beat San Jose 3-0. Lindy Ruff got his 500th victory in this game.

That's what I thought, but it appears we will have our first round draft pick. As part of the Kovalchuk trade it looks like we only gave up a first round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

In 2011 we have given up/lost the following picks:
Second Round
* The New Jersey Devils' second-round pick will go to the Nashville Predators as the result of a trade on June 19, 2010 that sent Jason Arnott to New Jersey in exchange for Matt Halischuk and this pick.

Third Round
* The New Jersey Devils' third-round pick will be forfeited as a result of a penalty sanction due to cap circumvention when signing Ilya Kovalchuk -- The penalty includes a fine of $3 million, a forfeiture of one first-round pick between 2011 and 2014 as determined by the Devils, and this pick.

The Devils clearout has already started: confirmed trade of Jamie Langenbrunner to Dallas.
I wonder who else will leave the Devils?

That has to be a typo, doesn't it(on the part where you got the info, not on your part)? I mean, they made the trade after the 2010 Draft was already gone. That is what is confusing me about this.

I think the Leafs are going to win their second game in a row, and that they won't be blowing this lead! They are currently ahead 9-1 over Atlanta. Yes, that's correct...9-1!

The Ilya Kovalchuk trade occured on the 4th Feb 2010.

A second source, the NHL.com article "Kovalchuk traded to Devils" - 4th Feb 2010:

Quote:
@NHL.com

Ilya Kovalchuk is a New Jersey Devil.

The Atlanta Thrashers dealt their captain, an impending free agent, to the Devils on Thursday night for a package that includes defenseman Johnny Oduya, rookie forward Niclas Bergfors, junior prospect Patrice Cormier and New Jersey's first-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Defenseman Anssi Salmela, traded by the Devils to the Thrashers last March for Niclas Havelid, will return to New Jersey as part of the deal. The teams will also flip second-round picks.

"This wasn't an easy deal to make," General Manager Don Waddell said Thursday night. "Ilya Kovalchuk has been with us for eight years. He's been the face of our franchise and done so many good things for us, on and off the ice.

"We tried everything we can. I had great support from ownership. We offered him over $100 million in a long-term contract. He had said he wanted to be a Thrasher for life. We tried to make that happen, but unfortunately we couldn't reach a deal.

Kovalchuk owns almost all the offensive records in Thrashers history and is having another excellent season with 31 goals and 27 assists for 58 points in 49 games. But he will become a free agent on July 1 and had not reached agreement on a new contract with the team.

"It's disappointing, but we have to turn the page," Waddell said. "He's been a great captain for our team. We thank him for everything he's done for us. Now we look forward to the new guys coming in."

The Thrashers had offered multiple deals, including a $101 million, 12-year contract that Waddell said Thursday had been rejected. Kovalchuk reportedly had been looking for a contract worth the maximum of 20 percent of the salary cap on a deal that would last 10-12 years.

Since the Thrashers drafted him with the No. 1 pick in 2001, Kovalchuk leads the NHL with 328 goals. But Atlanta, an expansion team that debuted in 1999-2000, has made just one playoff appearance and has never won a postseason game...

Good night for our teams!

1. Toronto beat San Jose 4-2. This was Ron Wilson's 600th victory. Originally they were planning on sending Reimer down soon, but if he continues to play like he is right now, how can they? He is solid in net, boasting a 4-1 record with a 1.92 GAA and .947 save percentage!

2. Boston beat Ottawa 6-0. Wow. Ottawa is in a tailspin now. Bergeron got a hat-trick, had his third goal awarded to Marchand, and then scored another goal to get his hat-trick back! This was Tim Thomas's 6th shutout of the season.

3. Montreal beat the Rangers 2-1. Montreal outshot the Rangers 38-26.

4. Philadelphia beat Buffalo 5-2. Hartnell had two goals and an assist in this one.

Here are some other scores that have some importance, but are not actively followed, or are important to the standings of our particular teams.

1. Vancouver beat the Islanders 4-3 in a shootout. My Leafs and daul's Devils are happy about this.

2. Carolina beat Calgary 6-5 in a shootout. Carolina is ahead of the Leafs in the standings, and I want the Leafs to gain as much ground as possible!

3. Florida beat Washington 4-3 in overtime. Florida and Toronto have the same amount of points, but are ahead due to them having a game in hand(and one more win).

4. Dallas beat Edmonton 3-2. I remember when Edmonton was playing well and had overtaken Calgary in the standings. That now seems like a distant memory with them being 1-7-2 in their last 10 games.

Pathetic. Just pathetic. Toronto loses 7-0 to the Rangers. They better bring Reimer back up, and they better do it shortly.
