I think it allows you to connect better with the opposite sex. I don't really know the psychology behind it, but here's my take:

Your penis is your pleasure center, and I'd say most males are very thankful to have one. You guard your package at whatever cost, and it's almost like another entity - give it enough attention and in return, it will give you pleasure. When you see that object transposed on a woman, it gives you a common grounds with her to connect with her sexually. I'm sure many of us were confused when we first saw a vagina and wondered where the penis was. In this way, seeing a penis on a woman "makes sense" even though a vagina should technically make sense.
