Texas weather goes through different patterns, but when it storms it really storms.

Default Project Vortex Pictures

I signed up for a Twitter feed from "Project Vortex" this summer. Here are a few pictures. Check out the "armor plating" on the vehicle in the last photo!

Where I am from (Michigan), we don't get this kind of thing very often but I have driven the "I-44 and I-40" route ("old Route 66") through Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas many times. Must be scary to live there.

DSL, do you remember any of the "Blizzard of '78"? It came up through the Ohio Valley and dumped up to 24" of snow on parts of Indiana and Ohio. Western Michigan got hit hard but we didn't get too much snow in the Detroit area (maybe 9" -- but that's nothing for us). It then went on to New England--I think. Anyway, I was in grade school and we got out for a couple of days. :D Lots of fun--if you didn't have to drive!

Here are a few pictures from the Internet...

Default Stranded in a Blizzard

This thread has "drifted" (no pun intended) somewhat from the topic of this forum. Maybe we should start discussing who we would most like to be stranded in a blizzard with. I'll go first...

Default 78 blizzard

Hi
yes i was only 18 then we has 4 feet of snow under us! some areas got more then that. route 195 was a parking lot could not see my car it took me
2 days to dig it out! dont know where they put all that shit too.
we were without power for weeks that year after that it got sooo cold the
taunton river froze solid! blue hill weather station repoted winds at hurrican force.we had other powerful blizzerards after that one over the years but that
stom was the big one of all times the storm lasted for 3 days
2 to 3 inches per hour at times.
i remember it well...

Default Tornado Chasers

DSL, it sounds like you got it worse than us! Glad you finally got your car out. I remember helping my Dad dig his out--I thought it was fun, didn't understand why HE was pissed! (I was 7) I know that the winds were very strong--like 60-70mph or more. I am not sure of this, but I think sometime during the storm the lowest pressure ever recorded in North America occurred (non-hurricane related of course).

Enjoy the storm chasing pictures. These guys are a bunch of crazy M*****F******! I love it!

Well fall has arrived the leaves are starting to change here but just about noticeable. winter is just around the cornner i can smell snow all ready
hell don't even need to wait for winter for snow around here.
it was chilly last weekend i took my a/c's out of the window temps last weekend were in the upper 30's to mid 40's.
i stocked up on batteries for those nasty nor-easters because we are prone
