Default Lea T. in Newsweek

Well, the "she's also a he" part of the subtitle pisses me off, as do the other similar references in the text, but otherwise this is a worthwhile article. It can only help the acceptance of transsexuals in general society when mainstream news outlets such as Newsweek run stories such as this.

Lea T.?s Runway Revolution

Brazil?s hottest new model is tall, dark, and glamorous. She?s also a he. Meet high fashion?s newest gender-bending muse.

I think it is very positive, that journalist write positive articles about transsexuals.

From my experiences I could say, that journalists often write stupidities in their articles, because they don't have a clue about the thing about which they write in their articles, especially when something is more technically or scientific. So that kind of lapsuses like "she is also a he" will happened until journalist who write article will know more about transsexuals.

Gwendolyn Ann Smith, in a column in The Bay Area Reporter, has taken on the pronoun issue that I mention at the beginning of the quoted post. It is a fine piece of writing and worthy of a read:

Smith's arguments are cogent and compelling. And as she concludes: "In short, Lea T. is not a she who is also a he. She is, quite simply, a she."

It is a step in the right direction. I do hope that trans people get more positive press as Lea T. here, aside from the blatant pronoun sensationalization that most media deems necessary. They are all about garbing the readers attention, and they can't necessarily say "She's got a penis!" now can they.
Yes I'm saying I understand why they do it... But am I saying I approve? Hell no! They won't change till the general public learns of us, and unfortunately... The average person hears about us through corporate controlled media. And even that the general public (for the most part) doesn't want to learn. About transgenderism or anything else. They like to stay in the dark.
