Lea T. in French Vogue

I am not one who typically pays any attention to what is happening in the world of high fashion, but a news story from last week caught my attention. The French edition of Vogue magazine has published a picture of a transgender model.

Her name is Lea T., and as you can see from the pictures below she is absolutely, stunningly beautiful. Apparently, she caused quite a buzz when she appeared last fall in Givenchy's campaign, along with nine GG models.

Lea T. is the transgender personal assistant and fit model of Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci, and pictures labeled "Leo" (her given name) and "Lea" were published in the Italian edition of Vanity Fair last month. Those are the first two pictures, below; the third picture is the picture from Vogue, and the current buzz is about what it shows.

Here's what one blogger wrote: "Lea T.?s nude photo for French Vogue is sure to open the longtime discussion on sexuality once again. Whilst the magazine has done it primarily for marketing purposes, having a transsexual model showing both her female and male body parts is also a call for diversity."

Wouldn't it be a kicker if it was the fashion world, which is so responsible for ridiculously unattainable standards of beauty for women, helped make a major breakthrough for the acceptance of transgender people?

I must say again: the picture from Vogue is a thing of remarkable beauty.

FEROSHHH!

Awesome!

Trans exposure {Stop tittering at the back; not that sort of exposure!}
in as many varied and positive ways is good
for normalising acceptance of us in western society..

That's awesome! I know a couple of transwomen that have done some stuff like that. Miriam Rivera(Victoria) does modeling and she unfortunately did that show "There's Something About Miriam" which probably hasn't brought a good light to the trans community.

she really is gorgeous!!!

Coming into Fashion at last !

If anything can centralise Transexuals as a thoroughly acceptable part of public awareness, it will be the Fashion Industry.

Beauty is acceptable to most people whatever the setting, and this girl is certainly very easy on the eye.

The fact that there is male equipment in one of the pictures is a clear challenge to the accepted norm, and, I believe a very welcome one, not least among the TG community.

Well done Europe !

Well said.

I just want to add that the picture showing her penis is fantastic. Erotic, sensual, and provocative, yet classy.

Hot damn!!!

This is great news. I hope the fashion world fully embraces TG models. Where i live they have much better bodies than the genetic girls. Especially for the purpose of modelling.

Lea T. was featured on the runway at Brazil Fashion Week, just a few days ago. Here are some pictures. The fourth picture is when she was "off-duty" and on her way to shop for some "drag" clothes.

She is beautiful girl and it's very positive, that she have success in a world of fashion. I wonder how many countries allow her to have reviews? Anyway this is a step forward for trans people to become more recognized.

May not be as well known, Caroline Cossey has also done modeling and was one of the ladies around a pool in James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only. She has had a very challenging life with the press in Britian.

Her story is very interesting and if she does not have a thread of her own might start one and not continue this ~Thread jacking~

Lea T. in Newsweek

Well, the "she's also a he" part of the subtitle pisses me off, as do the other similar references in the text, but otherwise this is a worthwhile article. It can only help the acceptance of transsexuals in general society when mainstream news outlets such as Newsweek run stories such as this.

Lea T.?s Runway Revolution

Brazil?s hottest new model is tall, dark, and glamorous. She?s also a he. Meet high fashion?s newest gender-bending muse.

I think it is very positive, that journalist write positive articles about transsexuals.

From my experiences I could say, that journalists often write stupidities in their articles, because they don't have a clue about the thing about which they write in their articles, especially when something is more technically or scientific. So that kind of lapsuses like "she is also a he" will happened until journalist who write article will know more about transsexuals.

Gwendolyn Ann Smith, in a column in The Bay Area Reporter, has taken on the pronoun issue that I mention at the beginning of the quoted post. It is a fine piece of writing and worthy of a read:

http://ebar.com/columns/column.php?s...issions&id=168

Smith's arguments are cogent and compelling. And as she concludes: "In short, Lea T. is not a she who is also a he. She is, quite simply, a she."

A recent picture of stunning Lea T.

ThirdEyeGirl 10-10-2011 11:24 AM

It is a step in the right direction. I do hope that trans people get more positive press as Lea T. here, aside from the blatant pronoun sensationalization that most media deems necessary. They are all about garbing the readers attention, and they can't necessarily say "She's got a penis!" now can they.
Yes I'm saying I understand why they do it... But am I saying I approve? Hell no! They won't change till the general public learns of us, and unfortunately... The average person hears about us through corporate controlled media. And even that the general public (for the most part) doesn't want to learn. About transgenderism or anything else. They like to stay in the dark.
