As of late last night, the LGBT alliance at my university is in touch with Equality Maryland to find avenues for providing financial assistance for medical treatment and to discuss how to pressure the state of Maryland to prosecute this as a hate crime.

One thing that really disturbed me, in addition to this woman getting beaten, is that patrons (except for one older lady) and staff (it appears the manager did try to help) of the restaurant did nothing to halt the attack. Instead cell phone cameras were turned on to video the whole attack. My heart goes out to this woman and I sincerely hope that she makes a full recovery. She may require financial help with her medical bills. If so, I intend to donate and I will post a link here of where others may donate.

I've just been finding out about this It's sickening.

On youtube, I found a video where a guy is congratulating the people who stood and watched
Anyway in this video he uses the term "trap"

"So, the lady who was beat up at Mcdonalds is a Trap"

I'm assuming this is a derogatory term? I've never heard it before.

It is sad, but cruelty is not reserved only for males. Females could be also evil.

Teen Gets 5 Years in McDonald's Transgender Beating

Tuesday, Sep 13, 2011 | Updated 5:36 PM EDT

A 19-year-old woman was sentenced to five years in prison for her role in the beating of a transgender woman inside a McDonald's restaurant in Maryland.

Teonna Brown pleaded guilty last month to first-degree assault and a hate crime and was sentenced in Baltimore County Circuit Court Tuesday.

The beating at the McDonald's in Rosedale in April attracted national attention after a video of it was posted online. A girl who was 14 at the time of the attack acknowledged her role in juvenile court and was committed to a detention facility.

State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger said the beating was one of the worst he has seen, especially because surveillance video revealed that over 15 minutes, the attackers left and came back to beat the woman again.
