I did a Search for NHL or hockey and I didn't see any threads dedicated to this topic yet, so...
Just wondering if there are any other hockey(NHL or any other League/International format) fans here?
I am a huge Toronto Maple Leaf fan(even though they suck horribly this year!) and have been since the Tom Watt era. I admit that it has been hard to watch them at times since it has been a long time since they've even been a real threat to win the Stanley Cup, but they are my team. I've gotta stick by them through thick and thin.
Anyone else surprised at how good the Colorado Avalance are doing this year?

Hello Jen.:) With your nickname being Jerseygirl Jen I would have figured you to be a Devils fan. LOL!
The Flyers are a rival in the East, so I cannot say that I root for them very much. However, I have Scott Hartnell in my Hockey Pool so I hope he does well.:D
I'm glad to see they gave Ray Emery another chance as I felt he got a raw deal in Ottawa(one of the teams I won't root for.;):p
It's hard to root for a team that is 1-8-1. Er...go Leafs go?

Jersey is an odd state with two differnt halves NORTH JERSEY and SOUTH JERSEY those who live in North Jersey are for the Giants and Devils and Mets while those who live in South Jersey are for the Eagles, Flyers and Phillies and as you can guess i live in South Jersey which is very close to Phillie
Oh did i forget to mention that the Flyers had the greatest center ever one Bobby Clark

I never saw Bobby Clark as a player, but I have seen him as the GM of the Flyers. Quite a character.:D
A little off topic, but does that mean you are a Phillies fan as well? I am a Toronto Blue Jays fan(Ouch. Thank goodness J.P. Riccardi is GONE!), but I am rooting for the Phillies to beat the Evil Empire this year(plus Matt Stairs, a good Canuck, has been on the team for the past season and a half)!
As a further off topic, if that is you in your Avatar, you are a very lovely woman Jen.:)

Awwww, why did you have to go and insult my team?:( LOL! It's fine. Friendly rivalries are good for the game.
I will say that Montreal needs to treat their goalies a little better(the same can be said for the Leafs somewhat), as they put so much pressure on their young goalies that they crack. Look at Huet for example. He was touted as the next Patrick Roy(very tough shoes to fill, even though he is kind of a tool off the ice) and when he couldn't handle all the pressure he started to falter. They ended up dumping him for Carey Price, but I can't help but see the same things happening to him. Halak can be good, but I don't think he's a first string goalie(better than Toskala though, LOL, but even a cardboard cutout would be as well:lol:).
Besides the goalie problem, they don't have the size. They got some good talent in the offseason(Cammalleri mainly, as I don't see Gomez doing great things), but they don't have size. They will probably make the playoffs, but I don't think they'll make it to the finals due to the grueling nature of the playoffs. Myself, I just hope we don't end up giving Boston a #1 pick in the next draft!
As a Montreal fan, what do you think of the prospect of Quebec getting another team(which is what it sounds like will probably happen)? Another Canadian team would be a good thing, and I think that Quebec could handle another NHL team.

No snub was meant about 1993, honest. I didn't even have that in mind when I made the post.:):respect:
It's a shame that their offense can't do anything about Burnett tonight. Howard needs to get hits not strikeouts! If the score remains 2-1 Yankees and Rivera comes in....yikes!:(
Very nice picture, Jen. Princess Leia has nothing on you! LOL!

You're right, Montreal tends to eat their goalies as soon as they don't live up to expectations. I'm going to say something sacreligious; I was never a fan of Patrick Roy. I thought that he was too full of himself.

It's going to be either Quebec City or Winnipeg that gets a team. I think Quebec may have the edge as they have a bigger arena. I would really rather see Hamilton get a team before either of those cities. Hamilton will support a team at least as well as Toronto. I think it's a shame the way Jim Balsillie was treated by the league.

It's nice seeing other fans of hockey here. I hope that some other fans will decide to talk about their favourite(or most hated) teams besides yourself and Jen(I am enjoying both your posts here, though, so please keep them up!). So far the three of us root for Eastern teams. Are there any Western fans here?
Thanks for your honesty about Patrick Roy. I didn't want to say anything too bad about him just in case(bad first impression and all that:D). I don't like how he treated Montreal at the end(wahhhhhh! You left me in for all those goals. I want a trade...after a soother please:lol:). Good goalie but a true basket case at times.
I'm glad that I was able to give you a laugh, Ila. Normally, all Toskala does is give us fans heartburn when we have a 1-goal lead so it's a welcome change.:D
I feel that Basillie would have gotten a team if he hadn't been so mercenary about it all. Continually trying to snatch teams and move them to Hamilton was probably not the best way to go about things(especially with Bettman's huge((and fragile)) ego), and I am sure he realized that near the end of Baum's decision process. Will he get a team someday? I hope so, as his passion would be good for the team. I think either Bettman has to go, or Basillie mends his fences with the other owners before that will happen.

According to some reports that I read it was less than a year ago the other owners thought that Balsillie would be a good team owner. He's always been upfront about his intentions to move a team to Hamilton. I really think that the NHL has to change their thinking. They should be moving back to where their fan base is, not trying to expand into the sunbelt where hockey is a foreign sport.

What Province do you live in, Ila(if you don't mind me asking)? I live in SW Ontario myself. I do have some friends from another forum that live out West(Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia) so I know a little about the West.:)
It also looks like the apple hasn't fallen too far from the (rotten) Roy tree. His son was charged with assault when he went after the opposing team's goalie(and from the sounds of it the Coach(Roy himself) urged it on). Classy! I'm not sure if the case has been resolved or if it is still in the courts.
I agree with you 100% about the mentality of the NHL. Bettman does not want to come across as a failure so he will do everything in his power to try and make the sunbelt teams work. Some teams just will not work no matter how hard you try to make it so. It is amazing how many "fans" were interviewed that knew nothing about the game, they were just going to a game because the tickets were free. I am not saying that all the people there are like that, as they do have hardcore fans like we do. They just don't have the history to fall back on that a lot of other teams do(not just the Original Six) as they are still relatively new. It also doesn't help that besides the Tampa Bay Lightning(how had a pretty powerful team that year) they haven't had a lot of playoff success either.
And to Jen: The Phillies lost 3-1. Dang.:(

Darn it, Ila! Montreal won last night.:(
The Leafs made a good effort to tie it up(and that, Montreal fans, is why you don't sing that annoying goodbye song with over 5 minutes left to play in the game. All it does is fire up the opposing team and they play that much harder.) but they could not finish it up.
Once it went to a shootout I knew we were doomed. They wanted to put in the cardboard cutout but he was unfortunately creased from the trip to Montreal and he could not perform. Alas, we were stuck with Toskala who, as we all know, is quite inferior to said cardboard cutout. I was talking with a Supervisor this morning about Toskala's craptitude in the shootout(he has always stunk in them) and that since he always gets beat top shelf, glove side, he should just leave his arm up and just wave it back and forth before they shoot. Heck, he has more of a chance making the save that way than just standing there picking his nose like he is wont to do.
Toskala stinks.:(
Congrats, Ila. The better team won last night.:)
I have to confess, shadows. I got busy last night and forgot to even check the score. Thankyou for the update. I'm not as dedicated a hockey fan as I used to be, but I usually checkout the game off and on when Montreal is playing.

One positive that I took from the strike is that it brought about the salary cap. It makes for a more level playing field. That way the teams with the biggest pocketbooks aren't winning year after year.
With regards to the World Series, I have to say I am seriously questioning some of Charlie Manuel's managerial skills. He has made a few boneheaded decisions that have caused the Phillies to be down 3-1.

Your Bruins seem to be bitten by the injury bug big time! I am also a little surprised at how average Tim Thomas has been so far this year(for the most part). At least you'll get a couple of nice 1st round picks because of my Leafs.:(
Speaking of injuries, there sure have been a lot of them to big-name players this year, eh smc?
Add Ovechkin and Eric Stall to that list, as they both got injured last night.

We don't follow college football(and other college sports) in Canada as fervently as you do in the US. I've always wondered why that is. The teams could use the support(and the revenue gotten from television/seats sold/merchandise) sometimes! And the games can sometimes be even better than what can be had from a "professional" team(the Detroit Lions or Cleveland Browns for example).

It looks like the Flyers are kicking Tampa Bay's butt tonight(Jen will be happy;)). Five goals on 18 shots. Not a very good night for the goalie. Hey there xpinkx!:)
Buffalo is playing very well this year even though Vanek is not lighting up the scoresheet like he did last year. They have a lot of good players and a very good goalie in Miller. I think they will be one of the teams to beat in the playoffs this year.:)
And that is a nice picture too.;):)

The same thing we always do Pinky, take over the....oh wait. Wrong topic.;):p
Ila, the wonderful Leafs did what they seem to have done all season. They tied up the game in the 3rd period and ended up losing in overtime. Grrrrrr! At least Toskala wasn't in net this time.;)
Kessel looked good, especially for being out as long as he was. He had 10 shots on net. He took a hard hit(he had his head down, which is a big NO-NO!) but he came back out after only a little time had passed.
The scary thing of it all is that they are ahead of Carolina now even though they only have 1 win.:D
Montreal also lost to Atlanta, 5-4. Montreal kept coming back and tying it, but Atlanta kept getting the lead right back. Pavelec(the Atlanta goalie) wasn't as sharp as he was against Ottawa the other day(he made 50+ saves), but he was able to keep Montreal from tying that one last time. I didn't watch it, but it sounds like it might have been a fun one.
It looks like the Erie Otter player has been suspended for the entire season and the playoffs for his hit on the Kitchener Rangers player. the Rangers player was hit into the boards and suffered a broken orbital bone, skull fractures, and other facial injuries. He was in critical condition after the hit, but he has since been upgraded to serious. His career is probably finished. I did not see the hit to see if it was a dirty hit or not, but from what I have read(comment wise from various sports forums) it seems that people are split down the middle as to whether or not it was. Scary incident either way!
Toronto has tonight off, but Montreal is playing Boston. They are currently knotted at zero with about 5 1/2 minutes left to play in the first.

It sucks, eh Jen?:( I think a huge reason that Phillie lost was due to Manuel's head-scratchingly dumb Managerial decisions that he made in the World Series.
I really, really did NOT want A-Roid to win a ring. I cannot think of anyone less deserving than him(and not just for the steroid usage, as there are a lot of people in baseball that have used enhancing drugs).

Yeah, but at least the overtime during the regular season is only 5 minutes in duration.;) Some of the shootouts last longer than that!
I love overtime in the playoffs, but once it gets to the third or fourth overtime it gets a little boring as the players are so tired they are just waiting for a lucky bounce or a brain-fart from the opposing team.

One thing you will never see(at least I freaking hope not!) is a shootout in the playoffs. I think if Bettman tried sometime that assinine they would find his body stuffed somewhere with a bag of hockey pucks stuffed down his throat. And I think Toskala would be the prime suspect. ;)

Go Devils. But I only started watching in 2003. The Stanley Cup was live on free television in the UK and I couldn't bear seeing a Disney owned team called the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim winning so I supported the Devils. Everyone should getthe opportunity to see an NHL game live. I love watching on TV, but there is nothing like being there. The first game I saw was a exhibition game between the Kings and the Oilers. It was the first year after Gretzky was traded. I loved all the action. I thought hockey was great. The first regular season game I saw was between the penguins and the sabers. It was ten times more intense. Had second row seats directly behind the goal. Got to talk to the goal judge, real cool. Never been to a playoff game, I can only imagine.

I totally agree,, Hockey is best seen live. I had 2nd row seats just outside the blueline, got to see Forsberg, Sakic, and Waugh (sorry bout the spelling lol) at their best in the Avs 96' playoff finals. The Mile High city rocked !!!

Go Devils. But I only started watching in 2003. The Stanley Cup was live on free television in the UK and I couldn't bear seeing a Disney owned team called the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim winning so I supported the Devils. I hope to see a live NHL game soon, but that will probably be Nashville who are nearest to my relatives.
Theres a lot of baseball on this hockey thread, but no NFL or NBA. Are NFL/NBA taboo?
Nope. I am just not a huge NFL or NBA fan(hockey is my favourite sport), that's all. I have no problem with anyone wanting to discuss football or basketball in this thread(just no flaming of teams/players unless the player is a total tool;):D).:)

Good news for ME: Toronto kicked Detroit's ass 5-1! Woohoo! It's only a 2 game winning streak now, but they are playing better lately and Kessel is a great influx of energy! They play Minnesota next(5wins 10 losses) so they could make it 3 in a row!:)
Good news for Jen: The Flyers won 2-1 in a shootout. They have now won 4 games in a row. Ray Emery looks to be a good signing for them!
Bad news for Ila: Montreal lost 3-1 to Tampa Bay. I didn't watch the game(as I was working, and I would have watched the Leaf game instead;)), but it doesn't sound like they played a horrible game.
Bad news for ME: Even though Washington scored 7 goals last night, Semin didn't get me one stinking point! He is supposed to get me a little closer to the leader in the pool while Ovechkin is out(I have Semin rather than Ovechkin), but he hasn't done anything except pick is nose the past couple of games! Boo Semin, BOOOO!
Good news for the Devil's fans: They won their game as well, a 3-2 come-from-behind win against Ottawa.

Light night of hockey last night, with only two games being played. Atlanta came back and won in Jen's favourite fashion(:p): the shootout. They won 3-2 over St. Louis(man, St. Louis is not playing well this year at all).
Also, Edmonton beat Colorado 5-3, which is kind of a shocker being as where the two teams are in the standings.
Tonight is an even slower night of hockey, with only one game being played(LA vs Chicago).
Looks like Cam Ward(Carolina goalie) will miss about a month after getting cut with a skate in his calf area in Saturday night's game. It could have been a scary injury indeed, but it looks like it missed anything major.

A tough time for Philadelphia fans.
First, the Phillies lose to the "Evil Empire" Bronx Bombers.
Then, the Eagles lose on national TV to "America's Team" and the annual winner of the NFL's "Most Popular" and "Most Hated" team-the Dallas Cowboys.
Wow!
I agree with you Canada would be a more sensible place to have a team, would Toronto be favourites? I am surprised there isnt a team in Canada already.
I would not want to ever see the NFL in Canada. The NFL plays the most boring game in the world and the commentators are twice or even three times as boring. There is no other game in the world in which one hour of playing time results in 3-1/2 to 4 hours of actual time. The last five minutes of an NFL game can take up to a half hour to play. It especially pisses me off when I'm waiting to watch 60 minutes and the :censored: game isn't even close to being over.
Canadian football is a much better and more exciting game. The field is longer and wider, the ball is bigger, and there are fewer downs. Unfortunately there are too many coaches and players that have infiltrated the CFL and ruined our game.
It is interesting to note that although the NFL has never made it into Canada, the CFL did have teams in the US.
shadows, what do you think of Gretzky's decision not to go to the Hall of Fame dinner. As I write this I haven't heard of any change yet. Some sports writers are saying it is a slap to Bettman and a rebuke to the NHL.

Edmonton beating the Avs was not really that much of a shocker..I am an Avs fan and I saw this as a kind of"trap" game that you run into in all sports.. one team is really on the move and the other has been struggling a lot.. So the OPilers coming in and whipping up on the Avs is not to surprising.. The Avs have really turned a few heads early on so teams know going in that this is a team that will play to the very end!!..
Now..that said..I am a ockey purest.. I love hockey and I do watch as much of the "Original 6" as possible when they are on TV.. Yeah it's really awesome to have an NHL franchise here in Colorado, but I enjoy it more when one of the Original teams comes to play!!.. It has to do with all the history behind the teams and the names that played the game back in the day..
I think those fans, know hockey best and they stand behind their team through thick and thin.. With the Avs. We were basically handed a quality team at the start with a high powered roster, and the managment just put the final pieces in place and Looky Looky.. we win the cup in 96!!!!.. Then after a few years of not quite geting the job done.. Mr Lacroix ups and adds 2 more pieces to the puzzle and the Avs take another Cup in 2001!!.. So.. We here in Colorado have been spoiled early on just a bit and I don't think a lot of the fans have really stood solidly behind this teem the last few seasons.. Yes there have been thos fans that have stuck it out!!.. But there are always going to be the "band wagon jumpers" I just don't think we , eher in Colorado, have really built that looooong time tradition that storied teams like the Red Wings, Montreal, Boston, The Rangers and so on, have built for them selves over the decades!!..
I love hockey and the fast pace and excitement the game has. I agree that Bettman needs to go peddle his papers elsewhere and that league needs to get tougher in their poilcies towards the "nastier" and uncalled for crap that happens on the ice from time to time!!. The next commissioner needs to be a hard nosed, "enough of this goon crap" type of person that will hit those that stray to the "dark side" really hard in the pocket book!!.. no more of the namby pamby junk that Bettman seems to be stuck on doing!!!... Well.. That's my 2 cents worth!!.. As always it is JMO and subject to rebuttal, ridicule and what ever else you all want to say!!!.

shadows, what do you think of Gretzky's decision not to go to the Hall of Fame dinner. As I write this I haven't heard of any change yet. Some sports writers are saying it is a slap to Bettman and a rebuke to the NHL.
I think Bettman has to go. The NHL should also move the head office to either Toronto or Montreal. It's time we took back our game.
I think that Gretzky is showing what he thinks of Bettman, and deservedly so. Bettman only looks for ways to stroke his ego and makes decisions that will make him look like a genius(which fails more often than not as he always seems to fall flat on his face) no matter how little sense it really makes.
Bettman(and in turn, the NHL) screwed Gretzky royally over the whole Phoenix fiasco. Phoenix is NOT a hockey market, and having only 6000 fans show up for a game when the team is playing great is not a way to show everyone else around the US/Canada that it is a viable market. Bettman's "deal" does not give Gretzky one penny, and that smacks of getting "thrown under the bus" to me. Some can say "Oh, but Gretzky makes millions of dollars he shouldn't complain about money!", but they are totally wrong. How would they feel if a troll named Bettman said that a bid that would allow everyone to get their money was not going to be allowed and that only the ones that HE wanted would be accepted? They would be mighty pissed off, I would think. Hence, Gretzky's reaction. And good on him. I agree with him 100%.
I will say that I do not have a problem with hockey teams being in the US(as there are a lot of good teams with great fans...such as the Flyers and their fans;)), but I do have problems with teams being in a city with either a poor or non-existant fan base. If there is no market for a team in a city, then why not move it? Bettman had no problem moving Canadian teams to the US, so why does he have such a hard-on about moving a team back to Canada? We all know that Bettman is just biding his time and then will move the Coyotes to either Las Vegas or Kansas like he has always planned on doing(and mark my words, Jerry Reinsdorf will be the owner. Talk about shady dealings!). Bettman is a good example of "little man" syndrome. Ugh.

One way to get rid of all the "gooning"(real word? LOL!:D) that is going on today is to get rid of the Instigator penalty. I don't have any problem with NHL teams being in the US. There are some very good and viable markets, especially in the northern states. When I said that we should take our game back I was only referring to moving the head office back to Canada. The NHL should be run out of Canada not out of NYC.

I guess I should elaborate. By goons, I don't mean the players that play a particular role(every team has one or two players of that type) but I mean the players that try to hurt other players deliberately and take them out of the game for good. That is not sportsmanship at all. I like watching hard hits and I like watching fighting, but I do not like people trying to cripple other players every time they are on the ice. Thankfully, players like that are rare otherwise the teams would be shorthanded all the time.;)

Interesting discusssions at work today, shadows. It was generally agreed that Wayne Gretzky is just too classy to not show up for the HHOF induction ceremony. I think he showed true class in his interview when he told reporters that the game is bigger than one person (sorry had to paraphrase here). He was, of course, referring to himself.

There is nothing wrong with a good clean body check. You're right that hard clean hits are part of the game. If done right a good clean hit will not injure another player, but it does have the potential to change the game in favour of the team doing the hitting.
I don't like to see fights and I don't like to see one player deliberately injuring another. I agree with criminial charges being pursued in cases of deliberate injury. However, one must take into account intention and method when deciding on criminal charges resulting from a hockey injury.

I read quotes from that interview as well. I agree that he is the epitome of class, something a lot of players(not just in the NHL, but other sports as well) need to adopt. Look at him and someone like Allen Iverson for example. Two great players, but one that is a whiny, spoiled diva. AI is unhappy that he has been relegated to being a bench player for Memphis and now it sounds like he wants to retire because of it. Waaaaaaaah! You make millions of dollars so suck it up buttercup! I feel no sympathy to you at all. Perhaps if you would show up for practice then you might not have this problem.
"Practice? Practice? It's just practice, man! I don't need practice!"(almost an exact quote from AI from a year or two ago). And no wonder why people are disgusted by many athletes these days. Be a freaking role model, or at least be LESS of a jackass, especially to the fans. We DO pay your salary(for all intents and purposes) after all.

One thing I disagree with you about is fighting, Ila. I enjoy watching a good fight in hockey, but it cannot be started by one person attacking the other from behind. They both have to be willing to "go at it" to be a good, clean fight(well, relatively clean anyhow;)). It's hard when the player is someone like Sean Avery, a player that will antagonize and then either turtle right away or scamper away onto the bench.
Some things that I think constitute assault would be:
1. Using your stick like a weapon(such as McSorley did on Brashear a few years ago).
2. Attacking an unsuspecting player or a player that is not involved in the play whatsoever(such as the gutless son of Patrick Roy when he attacked the opposing goalie for NO FREAKING reason at all). Sucker punches are not cool.
3. Attacking someone with your skate. As evidenced by the injury to Cam Ward, the skate blade can cause massive injuries. Players who stomp on other players should be charged as there is NO call for that BS. Look at what happened to the Detroit player last year(or was it the year before?), for example. He was accidentally nicked in the neck area with a skate and he bled everywhere. If he hadn't had the presence of mind to cover the cut with his hand and skate immediately to the bench, a lot of experts say he could have easily bled to death. That was a scary sight to see(there was a huge trail of blood leading from where he got cut to the bench), and it looked like something out of a slasher movie.
There may be a couple of other things that players could do that would warrart an assault charge, but it usually goes by a case-by-case scenario.

I will always argue that fighting is not a part of hockey. I can understand tempers flaring, but it doesn't have to result in a fight. I don't recall Wayne Gretzky ever getting in a fight and even though he never played for the right team I respect his ability and the fact that he never had a fight.
Watch some of the classic games from the 50s and 60s on the NHL channel. Sure there is the occasional fight, but nothing like what happens now.

Montreal lost 1-0! Argh! Kiprusoff got a shutout which really puts me in the hole in my hockey pool.
(And it's Boston vs Pittsburgh, Ila.;):D:p:lol:)
And to add insult to insult, Boston shut out Pittsburgh 3-0(second game in a row that Pittsburgh has gotten shut out. They NEED Malkin back.), and one person who has Kiprusoff also has Thomas as their second goalie choice(so, there is 14 points right there!).
Looking at the Toronto score tonight I thought for sure that "Glove Side" Toskala was in net, but he wasn't...:( They should have feasted on Minnesota, but they didn't. Show some consistency ALL the time guys, not just when it's losing games!

Looking ahead to the next games that our teams play, I will say:
For Jen: Philadelphia will beat Ottawa 4-2 and win their 5th in a row.
For Ila: Montreal is in tough against Phoenix. Montreal doesn't seem to be able to score a lot of goals and Bryzgalov is playing great this year. This one is a toss up, too close to call. I think it will be a 2-1 score either way.
For Me: We're playing Chicago. Man, I have no idea! They kicked Detroit's ass(a team they should have lost to) yet got humbled by Minnesota(a team they should have beat)! Chicago is a great team, but if Toronto can ratchet up their intensity they may pull off an upset. I predict, however, that Chicago will win 3-1.
I know that there are some Colorado fans that have posted in this thread. They don't play until Saturday against Vancouver. Colorado may suffer for having to sit for so long between games, but they will probably take it 3-2.

New Jersey beat Anaheim 3-1. They are really clicking right now. If they win their next road game, they will either be 9-0 or 10-0 on the road!
Buffalo beat Edmonton 3-1(I know we've got a Buffalo fan or two here, so let us know what you thought of the game.;)).
Washington beat the Islanders 5-4 after 11 rounds of shootout action! Ila and Jen would have been climbing the walls if they had to go through watching that, right? At least Semin got me a couple of points(about time nose-picker!)
LA beat Carolina 5-2. Not much to say about this game except to say that Carolina is in a HUGE tailspin. I can't imagine Paul Maurice being around too much longer now(which is a shame as he's a nice guy and a decent coach).
Chicago beat Colorado 3-2 in the shootout. Close game.
Flyers play Thursday night, and Ray Emery will be facing his old team...Ottawa! That should be a good game! Let me know what you thought of the game, Jen, please.:)

I am torn as to whether or not I want the Islanders to win. On the one hand, they have been so bad for so long that it would be nice for them to do well for a change. On the other hand, the more teams that there are below the Leafs at the end of the season, the worse pick that Boston will get. Hence, the tornage.;)
I'm just glad that Semin finally woke up and got me a couple of points! He must have read my "nose-picking" comments here and felt like he had to prove me wrong!
Thank you Ila. I appreciate the compliment.:)

I would be happy to not see Boston and Montreal playing each other early in the playoffs. Montreal has had too many problems, in the last few years, beating Boston in the playoff games.
I wanted the Islander to win because I dislike them less than I dislike Washington (the team captain is really irritating).
Toronto has got to start playing better if they even want to get into the playoffs. Of course it's still early in the season and a lot can happen between now and next March. And who knows, maybe that cardboard cutout of Toskala will come through for you guys.

Okay. Here are the scores. I will place the Devils score at the very bottome of the post with ***DEVIL'S GAME SPOILERS*** above and below it so that dauls can watch the game unaware of the outcome. Allrighty, here we go!
1. Florida beat Boston in the shootout, 1-0. Boston lost, but Thomas still got the shutout(his second in a row!) unfortunately for me and my chances in the pool. Sounds like it was a boring game, at least if the score is any indication.
2. (For Jen) Philadelphia kicked Ottawa's ass, 5-1! I thought it was going to be a close game once Ottawa tied it up, but Philly just pulled away. I'll bet Emery had an extra large smile on his face when this one was completed.;)
3. Atlanta beat the Rangers 5-3. Darn it Lundqvist! Start playing better! You have yet to give me a point since I traded away Cam Ward to get you. Grumble, grumble.
4. Tampa Bay beat Minnesota 4-3 in the....wait for it....are you reading Ila and Jen....the SHOOTOUT! Yay! Or not.
5. Detroit beat Vancouver 3-1. Dang it! Another goalie that didn't give me points tonight! Play better Vancouver(or at least win please!).
6. Nashville beat St. Louis 3-1. I can't say I care about either of these teams, so...moving on......
7. (For Ila) Montreal beat Phoenix 4-2. While I am happy for you Ila, I wanted Phoenix to win(and get the shutout) just for the fact that I have Bryzgalov in my pool(and would have gotten 7 points for that!).;)
8. Dallas beat San Jose 3-2 in the shootout. Hmmmm. Another shootout tonight? Well, I am happy that Dallas won since too many other people in the pool have Nabokov and if he had gotten the shutout(like I thought he was going to during the third period) I would have been down even more points! The new member that posted their first post in this thread won't be too happy with that final score, I would imagine.
And finally, game number 9!
***DEVIL'S GAME SPOILER***
The Devil's won 4-1. They played well again. 9-0(or is it 10-0?) on the road now. Congratulations dauls.

A thorough game summary shadows. Thanks for the ***SPOILER***, but if I'd gotten that far before I'd seen the game I don't think I'd have had the self control to stop myself from scrolling any further down, especially trailing 1-0 at the end of the 1st period.
That's 9-0-0 on the road, and a win streak of 7. A good start to the season, but they've only played 17 games, a long way to go before worring about the Devils in the Stanley Cup ruining my sleep.
Probably be a month before the Devils appear on ESPN in the UK again.

They are clicking right now, big time! Zach Parise is proving that last season was not a fluke. He can challenge for the lead in scoring, and all of this with a Devil's team that is built to play low-scoring games due to a defense-first mindset.

And here we go with tonight's scores. I warn you, gentle readers, that with it being Friday the 13th there will be some frights in store for you(especially with Toskala in net! Remember! You have been warned!!!
1. Washington beat Minnesota 3-1. No big surprise there since the only team that hasn't beaten Minnesota lately are the Leafs. *grumble* Leafs! Ovechkin did not play, but it sounds like he will play on Saturday. Darn.
2. The Islanders beat Carolina 4-3 in overtime! All I can say is that one team was going to win. It was a crapshoot as to which one it would be(as they are both not very good teams this year, with Carolina taking the lead in the craptitude race).
3. Columbus beat Anaheim 3-2 in the SHOOTOUT! RUN ILA!!!! The shootout is gonna get'cha!
4. Buffalo beat Calgary 2-1 in the, dare I say it?..., shootout! See? I told you there were lots of frightful tales this dreary night(well, it wasn't really dreary as the weather was quite nice for November).
5. In a truly dreadful massacre, Atlanta totally moiderlized *nyuk* *nyuk* *nyuk* LA 7-0. Halloween came late for these two teams as Atlanta got lots of treats and LA got nothing but a big bag of flaming poo placed on their porch. Poor LA. Don't step on the....ooooh too late.
6. And last, and most certainly least, Chicago beat Toronto 3-2. Kessel got two goals(4 goals already!) for Toronto, but my taste for the game was sullied by the fact that "no glove" Toskala was in net. Well, I guess I can take solace in the fact that he didn't give up 7 goals like LA did.:frown:
And there you have it, boys and ghouls! Another edition of Hockey Horror is finished. Be safe and do not step on any flaming bags of poop on your porch.:p
P.S. I am neither drunk nor tippy. I just have a weird sense of humour(well, I hope that you find it humourous! ;) )

Jen you are so right on everything.
NHL teams shouldn't be allowed where snow doesn't lay on the ground for at least a couple months of the year. Hockey is a game that is played in cold climates.

I don't blame anyone telling the Sharks: "We won't worry about you until the playoffs". For sure they deserve to hear that 1000 times. :-)
Nevertheless, we've retained or added to the offensive firepower from last year. We've also added grittiness, toughness, and intensity.
It rubs both directions. Our top lines are acting more gritty; fewer shots, but more checking and grinding. Our third and fourth line start trying to score. All four lines can score against anyone now.
On top of our game, we're hands down the best in the league. There's still occasional bonehead mistakes, and this magical dust that seems to come and go (as in all sports).
If the Sharks spend the rest of the regular season, not winning games, but learning how to be consistent, it's our year!

Nice to see a busy thread about what is unfortunately a minority sport in the UK.
Flyers fan since the '97-'98 season, the first season that channel Five (in UK) started showing live hockey. They pulled their coverage at the end of last season.:( But with no ESPN I've lost my hockey, even if it's on in the early hours of the morning.
Q:Why the Flyers? A: Eric Lindros and all the hype.
A student from Montreal moved into the flat next door to me about 15 years ago. He played hockey and always moaned that he couldn't watch NHL in the UK. He also said he'd played with Eric Lindros when he was younger - at the time Lindros was just about the only player apart from Wayne Gretzky I knew.
Eric Lindros was the big Philadelphia story I couldn't avoid when I was there in 1992. When it was eventually confirmed that he'd joined the Flyers, the Philadelphia media made it sound like the Flyers had signed 'the new Gretzky'. I suppose I now realise their joy in beating the Rangers to his signature.
When Five started showing hockey I picked the Flyers to catch Lindros. Was Lindros worth all the fuss? Clearly the Avalanche benefitted from the trade. Did it cost the Flyers a Cup? Oh, the ifs and maybes of sport.:)

As much as it hurts for me to say it(as I do not have any respect for Heatley for what he did to Ottawa, and I'm not even an Ottawa fan!), but Heatley has changed that team for the better. He gives a huge offensive boost to an already offensively-heavy roster. One thing I wonder about is whether the layoff for the Olympics will slow down any of the hot teams?
And how about Dan Boyle? 22 points for a D-man! I'm glad I've got him in my pool. I think he will be able to keep up the pace all year and win the Norris(if he can keep his +/- respectable).:)

Okay, here are the scores from last night. I won't post as much, as my relief ended up being late and I was at work 13 1/2 hours!
1. Rangers sqeaked by Ottawa 2-1 in the shootout. Not an auspicious start(due to the shootout) to my hockey report.
2. Calgary beat Toronto 5-2. I still think that Toskala spiked The Monster's Gatorate with Ex-Lax.:frown:
3. New Jersey beat Washington 5-2(after being down 2-0). Dauls, I like Rickard's Red so please bring over some when you come by.
4. Buffalo beat Philadelphia 3-2. Jen, I feel your pain. Dauls needs to know what kind of booze you would like.
5. Florida beat the Islanders 5-4 in the shootout. Meh.
6. Detroit kicked Anaheim's ass 7-4. Zetterberg got 3 goals and 2 assists! They are on fire right now, but Osgood(who is rarely "good") has not played in net for a while. Hence, the winning streak.
7. Pittsburgh beat Boston 6-5 in overtime. Malkin got 3 assists. No big surprise that the Pens missed him.
8. LA beat Tampa Bay 2-1 in the shootout. Well, Jen may be happy and sad about this one. On one hand Tampa Bay lost, but on the other it was in a shootout!
9. San Jose beat St. Louis 3-1. San Jose did not get a lot of shots on net, but they made them count.
10. Ila, Dauls needs to know your brand of booze as well. Montreal lost 2-0. They only managed 20 shots on net, but Price was amazing! He made 53 saves and he was the only reason it was even a close game.
11. Phoenix beat Dallas 3-2. Good. I have Bryzgalov in my pool!
12. Vancouver crushed Colorado 8-2! Henrik Sedin had 3 goals in that one. Wow. I was surprised by that score for sure!
Well, another report done. I hope everyone has as much fun reading it as I had writing it. Have a nice day everyone!:)

Yea, Price is amazing. Unfortunately it takes more than a goalie to win the game. The forwards have to do their job too and they just weren't doing it last night.
As for my drink of choice, I need an Erdinger Dunkeles Weissbier and in a half litre size none of this wimpy North American 1/3 litre bottles. Failing that I'll settle for a Canadian or a Kokanee.

No matter if you aren't much of a drinker, Jennifer. It is the company of friends that is more important than the drinks. We could also have a wide variety of sodas and fruit punches available as well.
And don't worry too much about the spelling of Labatt. None of us are perfect, after all.:)
I will say, in all seriousness, that it would be cool to someday meet the bunch of you(Jen, Ila, dauls, rockabilly and anyone else for that matter) for a Meetup.
I actually had a Meetup last year with a group of people from another forum that I frequent. It was pretty cool. Out of the four of us, three of us were from Ontario(Canada) and the other was from New York(he is actually the owner of said site). He was a really nice host and he paid for all of our meals regardless of our protestations(and he totally blew the New York stereotype out of the water! He was a really nice guy.)
I've also had a couple of other meetups from the now-defunct forum Spacecast.com(a forum from the Canadian television station called Space: The Imagination Station). We all attended a Convention called TorontoTrek(but is now called Polaris) and usually went out for supper to chat. Lots of fun, but can be expensive after getting all the autographed pictures and whatnot(personal favourite was a photo taken with Christopher Judge aka Teal'c from SG1 where he wrote "Jaffa Kree!" on it. One of the nicest guys I have ever met. Totally humble and a great sense of humour. Not your typical celebrity at all!:respect:

Okay. Now on to the roundup of last night's games. One HUGE surprise, and one suprise of the smaller variety. Here we go!:)
1. Carolina beat Minnesota 5-4 in the shootout. This definitely counts as a huge surprise as they had a 14 game losing streak!
2. Atlanta beat Edmonton 3-2. Kovalchuk has been on a torrid point streak since coming back from injury. Edmonton has been playing quite poorly after that hot start to the season they had.
3. In a mild surprise(since San Jose has been so good this year) Chicago beat San Jose 4-3 in overtime. Chicago now has won 4 in a row.
Well, tonight is the big game! New Jersey VS Philadelphia. Who will win? Jerseygirl Jen and dauls have a lot riding on this game! Bragging rights for the night(and following day!), so the stakes will be high! One fan will go home happy and the other one will take solace in a Happy Meal! Who...will...it...be?(it certainly won't be ME since my team sucks so bad:eek:)
I have a feeling that Philly is gonna pull this one out. 2-1 Philly win.;)
The only live NHL game that I can find listed for tonight is Edmonton at Columbus on Sports Net West. But then I don't get the NHL pay channels and I haven't checked to see what they are showing.

I just checked and it looks like the Flyers/Devils game will be on TSN2. Unfortunately I just have regular TSN. I believe TSN2 is part of a package and I just have basic cable(good enough for me as I rarely watch television, I just use it to watch DVDs). A shame, as I think that would be a good game to watch.
Just to add, TSN has the NFL game Cleveland Browns vs Baltimore Ravens. Wow. With the Cleveland Browns being such a crappy team this year(and thus, the ratings will probably be horrible) do you think they wish they could have a do-over(or mulligan)? LOL! ;)

All of the games are now finals except Tampa/Phoenix.
1. The Islanders beat Boston 4-1. I would have considered it an upset in the beginning of the season, but Boston has played poorly this year and the Islanders have shown to be quite competitive in a lot of their games.
2. Philadelphia beat New Jersey 3-2. Close game! I am sure it didn't help the Devil's to have all that extra pressure to tie the record for most road wins in a row to start a season.
3. Columbus beat Edmonton 3-2 in the shootout. Oh, how Edmonton has fallen since the start of the season. And Mason wasn't even in net for Columbus!
4. Pittsburgh beat Anaheim 5-2. Malkin didn't get a point, but the Pens got 5 goals(11 goals in 2 games now!). You can tell how important he is to this team since they got shut out 2 games in a row while he was out.
5. LA beat Florida 4-3 in the shootout. Meh, I say. Meh.
Tampa Bay leads Phoenix 3-1 after 2 periods of play.

His play was head-on, and he changed his style after one of his latter concussions. It was a good plan, like AI for the 76ers, and McNabb for The Iggles. They all got to the final game or series, while The Phillies got there twice in a row, won one, and there was no one marquee player. It's a plan with most plans not finishing first, which would be 4 teams out of 122 teams or a 3.3% chance.

Here are the scores for the November 18th games.
1. Florida smoked Buffalo 6-2. I will admit that I am quite surprised at this score. Normally Buffalo is a good defensive team, and to give up 6 goals to Florida is a shocker.
2. Dallas beat Detroit 3-1. It looks like Detroit got dragged back down to reality after their recent hot streak.
3. Phoenix beat Minnesota 3-2. Good. Bryzgalov is in my pool! Yay!
4. Edmonton beat Colorado 6-4. Colorado has been really shaky that past few games. Is this a sign of things to come? It also looks like they've lost Ryan Smyth for a month due to injury. Not a good thing for them.
(And saving the best for last! Well, for this night anyhow.;))
5. Philadelphia beat LA 3-2. Good game, and they had their backup in. Emery has logged a lot of time this year, and he deserved a break. Also, congratulations on 1000 posts Jennifer!:cool:

Afew days ago someone brought up how back in 92 all the buzz in Phillie was a certain player the Flyers put all there hopes in one ERIC LINDROS who never lived up to the hype nor got the Flyers a STANLEY CUP but i did dig up his 92 topps hockey card
 Flyers fan Jen
That someone was me. Funny to see the early hockey card, but why do they always choose the "look who we've just signed" picture? They look daft wearing a shirt and tie under the team jersey.
I suppose it's a step up from a mugshot photo being used. Has a mugshot ever been used on a sports card? That would have to make it a collectable.

Back in the late 80s and early 90s rookie cards was the big thing and all the card companies were trying to be the first to release the first card so most of the time they used photos from draft day as preseason was months away, On a side note the 92 topps hockey card set was supposed to be 528 cards and the Lindros card is number 529 and was not orinigaly part of the set and was a last minute addtion to the set and back in 92 it was a $25 card at card shows in the NEW JERSEY/SOUTH PHILLIE area

Here are the scores from last night's games.
1. Carolina beat Toronto 6-5 in the shootout. Heck, it was the shootout so I knew they were going to lose. Toronto had a 3-0 lead at one point and they couldn't hold it? Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
2. Boston beat Atlanta 4-3 in the shootout. Another shootout. Bleh!
3. Ottawa beat Pittsburgh 6-2. Pittsburgh has been giving up a lot of goals lately!
4. St. Louis beat Phoenix 3-2. Darn it! I need points!
5. Nashville beat New Jersey 3-2 in the shootout. I was surprised about that! Nashville has been playing well lately, so I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised. The shootout still sucks, though.
6. Columbus beat Dallas 4-1. Lots of PP goals in that one. Purplehead didn't like that final too much I would imagine.
7. Chicago kicked Calgary's ass 7-1! What more needs to be said?
8. Anaheim beat Tampa Bay 4-3. With Philadelphia not playing last night, this at least gave Jennifer something to cheer about(well, that and her Twiki score!).

Because of the Anaheim playoff loss last season (on top of the bad blood), the Sharks love to beat Pronger. Philly hasn't beaten San Jose since 2000! We don't play them much of course, but ouch. That's a tough stat.
Tonight was a pretty tight game. Momentum back and forth. Some ugly stuff, but some really beautiful goals. If you can see the two Thornton to Heatley goals, you should. He waits FOREVER to pass it. Everyone is screaming SHOOT, and Jumbo waits it out, threading an insane needle to Heater. Bang.
Thornton 4 assists to resume leadership in the assist race in the league.
Heatley scores short-handed, even, and on the power play to go atop goal scorers in the league. He also leads in power plays.
Sharks get 60pct faceoffs.
ME Vlasic gets his first fighting major. A real accomplishment.
Perhaps a controversial statement, but I see a lot of strength in the west this year. The east has some streaky teams, but noone really stands out to me as threatening. There's not a huge difference of course, and you're not getting a night off against anyone, but after game after game against them, I'd rather play the eastern teams than Chicago or Detroit....

Here are the scores from last night's games.
1. Montreal beat Washington 3-2. Two people will be particularly happy about that score. Ila for Montreal winning and Jennifer for Washington losing.;)
2. Boston beat Buffalo 2-1 in overtime. Rask was in net(didn't he used to belong to the Leafs? Too bad we don't have him still as he is pretty good) for the third straight game. It looks like Thomas may be nursing an injury.
3. Florida beat Detroit 2-1 in (you guessed it) overtime. After the mini-streak that Detroit had where they were scoring goals like mad, they are now struggling to score goals(of course, having goals that should have counted get taken away doesn't help;)).
4. Minnesota beat the Islanders 3-2. Havlat did not play due to a "lower body injury". Wow. Big surprise there. NOT!
5. Vancouver beat Colorado 5-2. Colorado had a 2-0 lead after the first period, but they could not hold on. They are not playing well right now.
6. *whispers vewy, vewy qwuietly* Shhhhhh! I'm hunting wabbits...er, I mean San Jose beat Philadelphia 6-3. Too much firepower for Philly to handle this night, I guess. Thornton had 4 assists and Heatley had a hat-trick.

Thank you dauls.;)
Who would have guessed, looking at all the games that would be playing last night, that out of dauls, Jen, Ila, and myself that I would be the only one happy with the outcome of a game. I certainly didn't expect it.
Here are the scores! Lots of 'em, but too many shootouts!
1. Calgary beat LA 5-2. Iginla got a hat trick and Calgary looks to have bounced back from their last game where they lost 7-1.
2. *does happy dance* Toronto beat Washington 2-1 in the shootout. Two things that surprised me the most about this score. The first being "glove side" Toskala winning in the shootout, and Toronto winning a game afterregulation time was over(first time this season!). Dauls, I don't think that they will be making the playoffs, but I hope they at least don't end up giving Boston their Lottery Pick!
3. Detroit beat Montreal 3-2 in the shootout. They just had to rub it in, eh Ila? It was bad enough to lose to Detroit(those bastids!), but to do it in a shootout. I imagine your anger is fierce.
4. Ottawa beat Buffalo 5-3. Ottawa is playing well right now, but they may have lost their #1 goalie(Leclaire) to injury.
5. Florida beat the Rangers 3-2. Florida is playing quite well right now.
6. Carolina beat Tampa Bay 3-1(which will make Jen feel a little bit better I am sure). Carolina has played better recently, a sign of things to come?
7. Pittsburgh beat Atlanta 3-2. An interesting thing to note is that Atlanta scored both goals shorthanded during the same Pittsburgh PP(Kovalchuk got a HUGE penalty).
8. St. Louis beat the Islanders 4-1. Both NY teams lost.
9. Nashville beat Columbus 4-3 in the shootout. Enough with the darned shootouts already! Nashville has been playing quite well recently.
10. Dallas beat New Jersey 5-3. Dauls, at least you can take solace in the fact that it was mainly due to your backup goalie having a bad night. Purplehead should be pleased with the final score, though.
11. Phoenix beat Philadelphia 3-1. While I am glad that Bryzgalov got me 2 points for the win, I just wish that it wasn't at the expense of the Flyers. Sorry Jen!:(
12. Chicago beat Edmonton 5-2. A tale of two teams going in the opposite directions it seems.
13. San Jose beat Anaheim 3-2. Darn it, Heatley got another!
And that concludes our broadcast. Please stand by for a word from our sponsor.;)
3. Detroit beat Montreal 3-2 in the shootout. They just had to rub it in, eh Ila? It was bad enough to lose to Detroit(those bastids!), but to do it in a shootout. I imagine your anger is fierce.
When there was just minutes to go in the third period and the score was tied I just knew that they would end up in a shootout. @#&%:censored: shootouts
I will say though that there was some good hockey played in the second and third periods. Montreal just kept forgetting that they had to shoot the puck at Detroit's net when they got into Detroit's end.
Yes, that was a bummer seeing Montreal lose in a shootout. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the end of the game because my spouse was being a television hog. :censored:

Here are the scores from last night's games(lots of 'em!)
1. Nashville beat Detroit 3-1. Again, Detroit has not been able to score goals since that two-game period where they scored a ton of them. Nashville has won 6 straight and Detroit is still struggling to score goals.
2. The Islanders beat Toronto 4-3 in overtime. I am not really too angry about this loss(except for Toskala reverting to his pylon ways in the 2nd period). The Leafs had over 60 shots for the game, and came back from down 3-0! They also got a point, which was better than nothing.
3. The Rangers smoked Columbus 7-4! Gaborik had 2 goals and 2 assists, and even Sean Avery had 2 goals! Mason looked like garbage again(he is certainly not playing like he did last year when he won the Calder trophy) and the defense was non-existent.
4. Ottawa beat Washington 4-3 in overtime. Washington lost, Ovechkin did not get a goal, so there are some positives. I am still not a fan of Ottawa though, so I would have been satisfied if they had lost also.
5. Pittsburgh beat Florida 3-2 in overtime. Fleury looked half-decent in net for a change. He's been decidedly average the last little while. Florida's first loss in a while.
6. Boston beat St. Louis 4-2. Lucic got another point tonight, so he doesn't appear to be showing any ill-effects from missing a fair amount of time due to injury. Rask started in goal again, so Thomas is definitely injured.
7. Dallas beat Carolina 2-0. Looks like Carolina poor offense reared it's ugly head again. Are they going to be able to right the ship again, or will they start another lengthy losing streak?(The Leaf fan in me hopes they do!)
8. Colorado beat Philadelphia 5-4. That is now three losses in a row for Philly. I don't think this streak will last too much longer, but it certainly is puzzling why they are struggling so badly right now(no significant injuries except for Gagne and he wasn't producing before going on IR).
9. Edmonton beat Phoenix 4-0. A good way to start a winning streak.
10. Anaheim beat Calgary 3-2 in the shootout(only one this evening, thank goodness!). Iginla got another goal and Corey Perry is continuing with his point-a-game pace.
Another night done, another few tears shed(darn Leafs!).;)
Ila, even though I know you are a Montreal fan and could be biased(but I don't think you are), what is your opinion on the George Larroque(sp?) hit on Kronwall that took him out for 4-8 weeks. Hi shadows. I've gone through the sports pages of the local newspapers and I've looked for clips of the the hit and out of all this all I could find was news about the five game suspension.
I asked around work and no one knew too much about it. I'm going to have to say that if it was deliberate then Laraque deserves the suspension and possibly even longer. If it wasn't a deliberate hit then he didn't deserve any suspension at all. Knee on knee hits can be career enders and I would hope that no player would deliberately hit another player in such a fashion. Knee on knee can also easily be accidental so I hope Campbell reviewed a video of the whole game before he came to a decision.

I think someone(dauls?) mentioned that there was a clip of the hit up at tsn.ca. You could check there if you wanted to.
Speaking of suspensions, it looks like Daniel Briere of Philadelphia has been suspended for two games for a late hit. Jen won't be too impressed with that I think, especially since they have lost three straight games.

Onto the scores from last night. A lot of people will be happy here, but alas, one of us will be crying into his milk(does a polar bear even drink milk?) ).
1. New Jersey beat Ottawa 3-1. It finally looks like New Jersey has righted their ship. dauls will be happy.
2. Philadelphia beat the Islanders 2-1. A closer score than I thought it would be, but at least Philly won. Their mini-losing streak is over. Jennifer will be happy.
3. Washington beat Buffalo 2-0. While Jen is probably angry that the Capitals won, she should take solace that if the NHL has any sense of fair play then Ovechkin should be suspended for his boarding penalty last night which garnered him a Game Misconduct(which tossed him from the game!).
4. Toronto beat Tampa Bay 4-3(in REGULATION TIME, BABY!!!!). Since you and I are both happy about this score, did you care to dance with me Jen. *does the happy dance*
5. Pittsburgh beat Montreal 3-1. No fault of Price's. The offense disappeared. Again. Ila will not be pleased.
6. The Rangers beat Florida 2-1 in the shootout. I was less than five minutes away from getting 7 points for a Lundqvist shutout. Why could they have not kept the tying goal out of the net!?!?!?
7. Atlanta beat Detroit 2-0. Pavelec played well again. Detroit's offense vanished for the third(fourth?) straight game.
8. Boston beat Minnesota 2-1 in the shootout. Oh joy. Another shootout.
9. St. Louis beat Dallas 4-3 in the shootout. How about that? Another shootout!
10. Nashville beat Colorado 4-3 in overtime. At least it wasn't another shootout. Nashville is HOT right now.
11. Calgary beat Phoenix 2-1. Darn it! I need the Bryzgalov points for a win! Why couldn't you win for me?
12. LA beat Edmonton 3-1. Khabibulin did not play again, so he has to be hurt. I do not know what the injury is, though.
13. Anaheim beat Carolina 3-2. Yay! We passed Carolina in the standings! Also, Eric Staal made his return to the Carolina lineup and got an assist.
14. Chicago crushed San Jose 7-2. Hossa made his return and got 2 goals. A sign of things to come for the rest of the year, or just making the most of an off night for San Jose?
That is it for the scores. It was a busy night!

Watched the Blackhawk-Sharks game. The Blackhawks played as if it was a playoff game and the Sharks played as if it was, well a playoff game. The first two periods where played entirely in the sharks end, they made soft passes that were intercepted and when they did get the puck out of their end, had to shoot the it deep for a line change. Hawks first two goals were both short handed. Nabakof (sp) actually played well for the first half of the game. Hawks were the much better team.

Wow. It's been a while since I've updated this thread. Anyone miss the updates?;)
Since not everyone has access to live action with regards to hockey(since not everyone lives in North America), I'll even update the scores for games from last Friday to last night.
FRIDAY NOV 27th's SCORES
1. New Jersey beat Boston 2-1 in the shootout. While it is nice that the Devils won, I am sure it would have been better had they won before regulation ended.
2. Buffalo beat Philadelphia 4-2. The main problem for Philly is that they are not able to score goals right now. I have also heard a lot of rumours that the players are tuning out their Head Coach(Stevens) and that changes may be happening on that front. If a Coach has lost the locker room, then that is usually the end of the line for the Coach.
3. The Islanders beat Pittsburgh 3-2. A bit of a shocker since Pittsburgh is so good, but the Islanders are a much better team than they were last year so it isn't a total surprise.
4. Minnesota beat Colorado 5-3. Colorado needs to wake up!
5. Anaheim beat Chicago 3-0. Getting shut out the first game after winning eight straight games is a little bit of a reality check I would say!
6. Atlanta beat Carolina 6-4. Carolina had a 4-1 lead going into the 3rd period, but fell apart in the end, giving up 5 unanswered goals. Ugly game!
7. Calgary beat Detroit 3-0. Apparently there was a goal for Detroit that was disallowed that should have counted, but as I did not see it I cannot say for certain if there is truth to this or if it just sour grapes by Detroit fans.
8. Tampa Bay beat the Rangers 5-1. The Rangers are in a tailspin right now. Their defense, goaltending, and offense(besides Gaborik and not counting the upcoming 7 goal game) is struggling. Heads will roll sooner rather than later if this keeps up.
9. Toronto beat Florida 6-4. YEAH!!!!! Kessel got two more goals. Sweet!
10. St. Louis beat Nashville 3-1. First victory for St. Louis in a while.
11. Phoenix beat Dallas 5-2. First time Phoenix has scored that many goals in quite a few games.
12. San Jose beat Edmonton 5-4 in the shootout. Edmonton has far too many injuries to really compete at their talent level and San Jose is a great team right now.
SATURDAY NOV 28th's SCORES
1. New Jersey smoked the Islanders 6-1. Even though the Devil's got bad news(losing Clarkson for 4-6 weeks due to a broken leg due to a Chara slapshot), they still played their A-game.
2. Boston beat Ottawa 4-3 in the shootout. Not a good sign for the night, shootout wise.
3. Buffalo beat Carolina 5-1. Carolina, AGAIN, had a lead going into the 3rd period but decided to fall apart again and give up 5 unanswered goals to Buffalo. Brutal team right now.
4. Washington beat Montreal 4-3 in the shootout. A double shot of bad news for Ila(but there will be some Ovechkin news in my Nov. 30th update!)
5. Atlanta beat Philadelphia 1-0. The Philly offense was shut down again, but it was due to a really hot goalie(Hedberg, returning from a long layoff due to injury). They peppered him with a lot of shots, but were unlucky to not get any past Hedberg.
6. Calgary beat Columbus 4-3 in the shootout. See? Another shootout. And there will be more in this update. *shudder*
7. Pittsburgh totally kicked the Ranger's ass 8-3. The Rangers are falling, falling, falling!
8. Detroit beat St. Louis 4-3(lots of 4-3 scores tonight!) in the, you guessed it, shootout.
9. Nashville beat Florida 4-1. Meh.
10. Dallas beat Tampa Bay 4-3. See? Another 4-3 score. Weird coincidence or something more?
11. Minnesota beat Colorado 3-2 in the shootout. Man, the shootout is like a freaking broken record tonight. Over and over and over and over....
12. Vancouver crushed Edmonton 7-3. Edmonton is floundering.
13. LA beat Chicago 2-1 in the freaking shootout! Thank freaking goodness this is the last game of the night, because I don't want to talk about another freaking shootout! ARGHHHHHHH! Well, at least Chicago didn't get shut out two games in a row...
SUNDAY NOV 29th's SCORES
1. Phoenix beat Anaheim 3-2 in overtime. At least it wasn't a shootout, thank goodness!
2. San Jose beat Vancouver 4-2. Dang. San Jose is good!
MONDAY NOV 30th's SCORES
Here we go! Finally going to get caught up! What is the big news about Ovechkin? Tune in to find out!
1. Buffalo beat Toronto 3-0. Dang it, no 3 game winning streak for my Leafs. At least they played well. Miller(Buffalo goalie) was really strong!
2. Pittsburgh beat the Rangers 5-2. The Rangers lose? Not a shock right now.
3. Washington beat Carolina 3-2. Here is the BIG NEWS. Ovechkin hit Tim Gleason knee-on-knee and left the game with an injury. While I never really want an injury bestowed upon a player, I will say that I feel perhaps he was hit with a little Karma. He has a couple of incidents where he got away with actions that would have warranted a suspension from a "non star" player. He was the one going for the hit, and he was the one who got hurt.
He also got a Game Misconduct penalty a couple of games ago, so it is not like it is his first brush with a potential meeting with Colin (no balls) Campbell.
It is unknown how much time he will miss, but we will find out soon enough I am sure.
4. Atlanta beat Florida 4-3(what, is this Saturday again with all the 4-3 scores?!?). Hedberg got the start again, which is sure to piss off Pavelec since he played so well while Hedberg was injured. Goalie controversies are never good.
5. Columbus beat St. Louis 5-2. Has Columbus finally turned a corner to winning?
6. Colorado beat Tampa Bay 3-0. Dang it! I needed points from St. Louis, Lecavalier, and Stamkos!!!
7. Detroit beat Dallas 4-1. Wings fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as Detroit finally won a game.
8. Calgary beat Nashville 5-0. Kiprusoff's second straight shutout. That sucks for me in the pool. Ugh.
Well, that is it for this long-winded report. Sorry for the delay fellow fans, but I hope you enjoyed reading it. Thanks!:)
I couldn't believe Montreal lost to the Capitals in that Saturday night game. In the last fikteen seconds of play, Montreal had a penalty called on them, leaving it a 6 on 4 offense against the Canadiens. They slapped on in to tie the game. Then the freaking shootout. After all of the saves that Price made, he misses the last shot. Depressing.
Still, I'd rather see Montreal lose in a close match (good game) than watch them annhilate the competition where the game is not really as fun to watch.

As long as we get some good players in return. I have no illusions that he would stay past next season, so we may as well trade him and rebuild the team.
And I would not give up on your team yet, Jen! There is still a LOT of hockey left to play.:)

All these comments and score updates, but no mention of Tomas Vokoun getting slashed by his own teammate, Keith Ballard. I have never seen anything like it. Don't think the rules allow for giving him a slashing penalty, but he should have gotten an unsportsman like one. Wonder if he will get a suspension? Anyone have any comments?

A shortstop that was a good fielder and cannot hit? The Toronto Blue Jays would sign you to a contract for sure! Heck, they did for John McDonald and he is exactly the same. Good glove, no bat.;):D

Thankfully it looks like Vokoun will be okay. They are saying that there is no inner ear damage and besides the laceration near his ear that required stitches, he is totally fine. It has also been said that Vokoun bears no ill-will to Ballard and neither does the rest of the team. There will be no suspension from either the League or the Panthers. I think that is fine, since Ballard will be punishing himself for what he did.
I do not think that Ballard will ever be doing anything like that again.

Derek Jeter was Sport's Illustrated Male Athlete of the year. I disagree with that choice. While he's a good athlete, the Yankee's didn't need him to win(since they bought everyone else! LOL!). What about Usain Bolt? Roger Federer? There were lots of choices, but I feel there were better ones out there than Derek Jeter.
And if the Jays trade Halliday to the Yankees I will be severely ticked off. It sucks enough that he will probably be traded, but to trade him to a Divisional rival? And one who has an obscene payroll?

Here are the scores for December 1st.
1. Toronto beat Montreal 3-0. I am not going to gloat. I am just happy that they won. It looks like Gustavsson left early due to a high heart rate. They say it isn't anything serious, but I hope they are able to correct the flaw before anything horrible happens.
2. Chicago beat Columbus 4-3 in the shootout. Deja vu? 4-3? Hossa got 2 assists.
3. LA beat Anaheim 4-3. Hmmmm. Another tale of 4-3.
4. San Jose beat Ottawa 5-2. They are on a ROLL!
Small amount of games tonight, so it was a little easier to finish.:D

I hadn't seen you post in here for a couple of days now, so I thought you may have been on a vacation or something.:D
I am not sure the day that Toskala is coming back from his injury(when his contract is over hopefully?) so I am not sure if he will be in net for their next matchup(when is the game anyhow?). Judging from the fans reactions on tsn.ca, Price did not play a very good game. However, how can he be expected to bail out the poor offense every single game? No bashing going on here, just an honest observation. The offense is horrible!
And it looks like Montreal traded their former 1st round pick(from 2004) Chipera(sp?) to Anaheim for a 4th round pick in the 2011 draft. Perhaps they are clearing some cap space for an upcoming trade?

1. Buffalo beat Montreal 6-2. The offense did not show up again, as they only managed 23 shots on net. Was Halak a little rusty from not playing in quite a while, or was it just a bad night from the defense? They need to pick up their play otherwise they will be on the outside looking in.
2. Vancouver beat Philadelphia 3-0. There are increasing rumblings that Stevens is going to be fired as head coach. This game will not help him any. I am surprised they are playing like they are! Luongo played a great game, though.
3. Washington beat Florida 6-2. No Ovechkin? No problem it seems!
4. The Islanders beat Atlanta 4-1. Tavares got his first goal in what seems like forever!
5. Toronto beat Columbus 6-3. *does happy dance* They are playing very well right now. They are only about 4-6 points out of being in the thick of things! Kessel got two more goals and now has 10 goals and 5 assists in 15 games. At least this proves that it wasn't due to Savard that he got so many goals last season.
6. Edmonton beat Detroit 4-1. A good win for Edmonton, especially against a team that always plays them tough.
7. Pittsburgh beat Colorado 4-1. Crosby got another 2 goals, which gives him 19 for the year. Looks like another great year from Sid the Kid.
8. Dallas beat Anaheim 3-1. Anaheim also lost Teemu Selanne 4-6 weeks with a broken hand(a shot hit his hand). Not good for a team that is already struggling.
9. Phoenix beat Calgary 2-1. Good. No shutout for Kiprusoff this time.
10. LA beat Ottawa 6-3. Will Kovalev or Spezza ever free themselves from the floating issues they seem to have? Doesn't look like it. I'll bet that Ila is happy that Kovalev no longer plays for Montreal.
11. St. Louis beat San Jose 3-2 in the shootout. St. Louis beat a very good team. Tough to do lately for them it seems. This was also the ONLY game to go beyond regulation time! That doesn't happen very often.

I admit it bothers me. When Buttman decided to expand, I honestly don't think he put too much thought into where the teams would end up. He just wanted to show everyone that he could create lots of new teams!
"Yay! Look at me! New teams! Who cares is the league is now watered down! Who cares if there isn't a large fan base in all of the new cities! I agree that teams in the sun-belt should be cut and the league downsized. There are however cities in Canada that would support an NHL team and they should be seriously considered for teams to be moved to. The cities that deserve a team are Hamilton, Winnipeg, Quebec City, and Halifax.

Don't be messing with the Sharks. More east coast bias BS. San Jose is a financially stable orginization and fans pack the shark tank every game. In addition, hockey is growing dramatically on the west coast. The sharks have four rinks with over 100 adult league teams and many junior leagues throughout the Bay Area and Northern California.
According to NHL.com, Brian Salcido became the 23rd California-born player to play in the League this year and Jonathon Blum, born in Long Beach and raised in Orange County, was the first California-based player to be selected in the first round of a draft in 2007. Considering when hockey got a foot hold here, I don't think that is too bad.
I can't say anything about the Sun Belt states, but it shows hockey is taking hold here.

1. As mentioned in my earlier mini-report, Carolina beat Vancouver 5-3. Raycrap lived up to his name.
2. Also mentioned in an earlier mini-report, Edmonton beat Dallas 3-2 in the shootout.
3. St. Louis beat LA 5-4 in the shootout. Ugly game for goalies, with an ugly ending...the shootout. Speaking of ugly, we now go to...
4. Boston crushed Toronto 7-2. Very bad game for Toronto all around. Kessel ended up being -3 for the night against his former team, and both MacDonald and Toskala(argggghhhhh!!!!) let in a bunch of goals. I would like to erase this memory forever! Can anyone help me to find some happiness?:D
5. The Rangers beat Buffalo 2-1. Lundqvist almost got a shutout, but coughed it up with less than a minute left in the third period. Thanks you loaf! I didn't need that 5 extra points for the pool, now did I?
6. New Jersey beat Detroit 4-3 in the shootout. I am sure that dauls will take the win, but I am sure he wishes it was by any other means besides the shit...I mean, shootout.:innocent:
7. Here is another game that I wish that I didn't have to mention. Washington beat Philadelphia 8-2. Carcillo took a penalty that cost Philly the game. Washington received a NINE MINUTE PowerPlay due to his actions, and Washington scored 3 times on it. Hopefully someone can link what happened as I could not see it from work. Backstrom had 1 goal and 4 assists and Mike Green had 2 goals and 2 assists. I am sure Jen would like to follow me in erasing the games that our teams played tonight from her memory.
8. Atlanta beat Florida 2-1 in the shootout. Another shootout. Makes me want to poke my eyes out with a hot poker. Actually, the Leaf game made me want to do that. All the shootouts just made me ill.
9. Colorado beat Columbus 3-2. Another game, another Columbus loss. Same old, same old.
10. Chicago beat Pittsburgh 2-1 in overtime. Crosby sat this game out with a sore groin.
11. Tampa Bay beat the Islanders 4-0.
12. Minnesota beat Nashville 5-3. Havlat finally got a couple of points tonight. He has been a bust for Minnesota this year.
13. Phoenix beat Ottawa 3-2. Bryzgalov was sharp again.
14. Calgary beat San Jose 2-1. In a rare showing, neither Heatley or Thornton got any points in this game.

1. Detroit beat the Rangers 3-1. One of the goals was an empty netter, so both goalies played well. From the sounds of it, the Detroit goalie(Howard) was excellent. Rangers are having trouble finding goals right now.
2. Ottawa beat Anaheim 4-3 in the shootout. Anaheim losing is good for my Leafs as they are still only 2 points ahead of Toronto in total league standings.
A lot more games on tonight, including the teams for Ila, Jen, dauls, and myself.
Philadelphia plays Montreal tonight, so either way a member here is going to be on the wrong side score-wise. No offense Ila, but I hope that Philly wins as they are worse off than Montreal is at this time, and could use the win more. Plus, it would make Jen happy and that is a good thing.:)
Toronto plays Atlanta. That could be a tough one. I hope they can manage to pull away with a victory, but Atlanta has a lot of firepower!

Philadelphia plays Montreal tonight, so either way a member here is going to be on the wrong side score-wise. No offense Ila, but I hope that Philly wins as they are worse off than Montreal is at this time, and could use the win more. Plus, it would make Jen happy and that is a good thing.:)
New Jersey plays Buffalo. That will be a good game, especially if Brodeur and Miller are playing to their full capabilities. A low-scoring game is probably in the makings.;)
:respect: Devils 3-0, and Brodeur ties the shutout record (he's getting greedy with these records).:respect:
Toronto... what about that 2nd period.:respect:
shadows, your hope for the Flyers-Canadiens game must've had ila's mouse hovering over that ban button.;)
Happy dance time again for 3 out of 4 of us. I think Bender Bending Rodríguez can have the honour this time.

The 5-2 victory last night over Atlanta helped as well.:D

Here are the scores from Dec 7th's games.
1. New Jersey beat Buffalo 3-0. While the win is nice, the shutout is of more importance. Brodeur has now tied Terry Sawchuk for the most shutouts of all time! It may be time for a happy dance from dauls.142492
2. Toronto beat Atlanta 5-2. Toronto scored all of their goals in the second period, and Toskala(surprisingly enough!) played well for the most part. I'm definitely doing the happy dance now!!142492 142492
3. Montreal beat Philadelphia(what are the odds that all four of our teams would be the first three mentioned on NHL.com?) 3-1. Jen is probably not doing the happy dance.142493 I hope they win soon. Also, the shots per game were pretty bad for both teams. Montreal only had 13 shots on net, while Philadelphia only had 15 shots on net. Judging from that, it may not have been the most entertaining game to watch.
4. Carolina beat Pittsburgh 3-2. Second win in a row for Carolina, and a win against a very good team!
5. Washington beat Tampa Bay 3-0. For Jen, this is a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" since both teams are disliked.
6. Edmonton beat Florida 3-2 in the shootout. Notice the hatred that exudes from my words as I type the word 'shootout'.
7. Colorado beat St. Louis 4-0. I guess they didn't want Brodeur getting the only shutout of the night.;)
8. Phoenix beat Minnesota 2-0. Another shutout. Considering how there weren't too many games played, there were an amazing amount of shutouts! Four games out of nine to be exact!
9. LA beat Calgary 2-1. LA only managed 16 shots on net, so they are lucky they won the game.
Here are the scores from Dec 7th's games.

I started to watch the game, but I didn't watch for long. There was a fight, over absolutely nothing, less than 3 minutes into the game. Philadelphia opened the scoring. Montreal was really playing poorly; Philadelphia had definitely outplayed them by the time the first goal was scored. I turned the channel shortly after that to watch a science program (what a nerd I am!).
Sorry, Jen. This is one game I would have preferred to see end in a tie.

Here are all the scores from the Dec 8th games.
1. Philadelphia beat the Islanders 6-2. While it is good news for Philly that they got a solid win, it has to be tempered by the news that they will be without the services of goaltender Ray Emery for six weeks due to surgery on an abdominal tear. He tried playing through the pain, and that was probably the reason for his poor play of late. Hopefully he'll make a complete recovery. Richards had 2 goals and an assist, Carter had 2 goals, Giroux had 2 goals, and Hartnell had 2 assists. A lot less chippy affair than the game against Washington.
2. Montreal beat Ottawa 4-1. Halak was the main star here, making 45 saves. Kovalev had 1 shot on net and 0 points in his return against his old team. I wonder. Does Montreal miss him?;)
3. Nashville beat Vancouver 4-2. Martin Erat had a hat-trick against the Canucks.
4. Anaheim beat Dallas 4-3 in overtime. First Anaheim victory in quite a while.
Tonight is packed full of games. Daul's team(the Devils) plays against Carolina. I expect Cam Ward to be in net for Carolina, as they activated him off of IR yesterday. As long as New Jersey doesn't take the game for granted, they should win.
My team(the Leafs) play the Islanders tonight. Again, if they play a good, smart game, then we should be able to win. If they play undisciplined, then the Islanders can make them pay dearly!

1. Buffalo beat Washington 3-0. Tough feat to pull off, but Miller was able to do it. This is his 4th shutout of the year.
2. Toronto beat the Islanders 3-2. It wasn't pretty, but I'll take the win! They are right in the thick of things now!
3. New Jersey beat Carolina 4-2. Was really close for a while there, but Carolina reverted back to type. I wonder when Ward will get his next victory?
4. Columbus beat Florida 3-0. Shutout #2.
5. Edmonton beat Tampa Bay 3-2. Edmonton is playing better now.
6. St. Louis beat Detroit 1-0. Shutout #3.
7. Chicago beat the Rangers 2-1 in overtime. New York deserved to lose this game as they were horribly outshot and took way more penalties than Chicago. If you don't score more than 1 goal a game, more often than not you will lose.
8. Minnesota beat Colorado 1-0. Shutout #4.
9. Calgary beat Atlanta 3-1.

Toronto 7-2-1 in their last 10! What has happened to them? Have they arranged a new win bonus scheme with the owners?;)
Following that nightmare 5-2 loss to the Canucks, it's four wins on the bounce for the Devils. A 4-2 win looks OK, but the 4th goal was only scored in an empty net the dying seconds, and the 'Canes are the worst team in the NHL.

Toronto got beat AGAIN by Boston 5-2(1 goal was an empty net goal). The Leafs seem to forget how to play hockey against Boston and that really ticks me off.

So the NHL are closer to selling the Phoenix Coyotes to Ice Edge Holdings, who claim they will keep the franchise in Arizona.
How long will Ice Edge want to or have to keep the Coyotes in Arizona after they acquire the franchise?
Will the Ice Edge deal include the plan to play approx five games per season in Canada, possibly in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan or Halifax, Nova Scotia?
Is it true that Ice Edge are expected to pay considerably less (about 30%) than Jim Balsillie was willing to pay to take the franchise to Hamilton? Would a location west of Hamilton have given Balsillie a better chance of acquiring a franchise?

According to the article I read on tsn.ca, Ice Edge has said that they are going to keep the team where it is and honour the contract with the arena. If that is the case, then they are going to be stuck there for 25 more years, as that is how much time is left on the contract.
I honestly can't see how they can expect to NOT lose money. Could Phoenix be a successful hockey markey? Perhaps. But not in their current location. The spot they chose to place the arena(unless the arena was already there, then they should have just built a new one elsewhere) is horrible. I would not want to be a shareholder for Ice Edge(if they have shareholders), as they would be pissing away my money!
Their offer is $150 million. I believe Basillie's was $215-$230.

1. Florida beat New Jersey 4-2. Dauls will not be happy with this result, especially since they did not play well.
2. Washington beat Carolina 4-3 in overtime. Carolina had a 2-0 lead at one point, but Carolina being Carolina(them sucking and all;)) coughed up the lead and lost yet again. They were lucky to go away with a point.
3. Buffalo beat Chicago 2-1. Buffalo just keeps on truckin'.
4. Detroit beat Anaheim 3-2 in overtime. Detroit can from behind to snatch victory away from Anaheim.
5. Edmonton beat St. Louis 5-3. Down 3-1, Edmonton scored 4 unanswered goals in the third period. Sloppy game from St. Louis.
6. Colorado beat Tampa Bay 2-1 in the shootout. Tampa Bay has suddenly suffered from a loss in power.
7. Minnesota beat Calgary 2-1 in overtime. Minnesota badly outplayed Calgary and deserved the win. The ONLY reason Calgary even got a point was due to the stellar play of their goalie, Kiprusoff.
8. Dallas beat San Jose 3-2 in the shootout. It went 11 rounds. Fun stuff.

Yes. I was quite happy with the end result. I looked at the standings and we are now tied with Philadelphia. Needless to say, I was shocked. We are also only 4 points behind Montreal(and they have played one more game than us). I would never have expected this considering how awful the start to the season was.
Elias has been quite good since returning from his injury. The same could be said for Kessel. Can you imagine the point totals for the two of them if they had played the entire season?
Ila, I'm sure, is happy that Montreal at least got a point. However, they did not have a lot of shots on net again. They need to improve their offensive output, and not rely on Price(or Halak) so much.

Here are the scores for Dec 12th's games.
1. Toronto beat Washington 6-3. This time, they dominated the scoresheet and Toronto's #1 line had more points than Washington's(which says a lot!). Good game, but it's a shame that I was at work while it was on. Toronto is now only 4 points out the 8th position(currently held by Montreal).
2. Ottawa beat Carolina 4-2. Not a shocker at all, but a couple of notes to the game. Kovalev(Ottawa) got a hat-trick and one of the goals was his 400th goal of his career. He may be a floater a lot of the time, but 400 goals is quite an accomplishment.
3. New Jersey beat Philadelphia 4-1. A broken record, it seems, with Philly. They don't score and they lose. I am really befuddled as to why they are playing so poorly.
4. The Islanders beat Boston 3-2 in overtime. Tavares got another assist in this game, and he seems to have overcome the slump he was in.
5. Buffalo beat the Rangers 3-2. While one NY team wins, the other one loses. It seems like that happens more often than not. Buffalo is a really hot team right now.
6. Atlanta beat Montreal 4-3 in overtime. What has to hurt the most is that Atlanta was on the PowerPlay during overtime. That has to piss coaches(and fans) off big time!
7. Anaheim beat Columbus 3-1. Anaheim seems to have picked up their game.
8. Pittsburgh beat Florida 3-2 in overtime. They avenged you, dauls! They beat Florida for you so New Jersey could have a small measure of revenge.;)
9. Detroit beat Nashville 3-2 in overtime. For the second straight game, Todd Bertuzzi scored the overtime winner.
10. Phoenix beat San Jose 2-1. I almost got the shutout, but Heatley ruined it for me! Darn it! I wanted the extra 5 points! This was also San Jose's fifth straight loss.
11. Vancouver beat Minnesota 4-3. Henrik Sedin had 3 assists and Daniel Sedin had 1 goal and 1 assist. Daniel has been on fire since coming back from his foot injury.
12. LA beat Dallas 3-2 in the shootout. One shootout in twelve games? I can handle that.

Quiet night tonight. But on Monday night (Flyers-Bruins) it's a warm up for the Winter Classic...
:)How popular is the Winter Classic in North America?
:)Would the league/other teams like to hold more than one game outdoors per season, or is the cost of setting up the temporary rink too expensive to do more than one?
:)Does the NHL cover the cost of the rink build or is it down to the hosts?
From the webcam shot, a hockey rink in Fenway Park just looks wrong.
I doubt if ESPN-UK will be showing the game live? A 1pm start in Boston is too early to show it live over here at 6pm, they'd rather show a live Italian or German football match.:censored:

Confirming earlier speculation, it has been announced that two regular season NFL games will be played in the UK, most probably London, in 2010.
Two as yet un-named teams have agreed to be the home teams in London, their opposition has yet to be confirmed. The fixtures will be announced by the middle of January at the very latest.
Cardiff and Edinburgh would like to host NFL games, as would cities in Germany, China, etc. But the teams appear to be very comfortable spending a week in London, maybe the players all want to visit Buckingham Palace.
League bosses in the US are keen to play games outside London and have hinted there could be as many as four games per season played in Britain by 2012.
The old "Super Bowl in London" chestnut has also reared its crazy head again!

The Winter Classic is popular, but they have to make sure they don't saturate the market with this sort of game. If people were to see it all the time(rather than once a year) then they would get used to it, and may get bored with the idea. It's the old "new shiny toys soon lose their lustre" adage(made up by me;)).
An example of this would be the 'Saw' movies. When Saw came out, people ate it up. It was a different movie than they were used to seeing, and there was a twist to it that most people wouldn't expect. Then they got the idea that releasing a Saw movie every Halloween could work after the success of Saw II. Saw VI was released this past Halloween to less-than-stellar returns. They went to the well too many times and the interest has dried up(whether this will remain like this in the future is anyone's guess). The same could be said if they had a "Winter Classic" type of game every week. It would no longer be a unique experience, rather it would be just more of the same.
(sorry for the long-winded explanation:eek:)
I do not know who incurs the cost of the game. I imagine it would get split somewhat, as both the NHL and the teams themselves benefit greatly by this special game.
A webcam shot cannot do justice to how it will actually look. And it is more than aesthetics. The atmosphere for the game will be off the charts. A wide open vista, a potential for a light snowfall, an open sky? Totally different experience, and one that can't be duplicated by a simple webcam.:)
I do not know if ESPN.Uk will show it. I hope they will, as I think it will be AWESOME!

The games probably got a lot of coverage, but I am not certain how much. I did not watch the games myself so I can't give you a proper answer.
I wonder if they will alienate the home fans by moving so many games away? That is revenue for the stadium that is lost(concession stands, parking, etc.), and that is a game that a home-town fan will not be able to attend(because the average fan cannot afford to travel to the UK to attend a football game, no matter how diehard they are;))
It will be interesting to see how this experiment(and that is what this is) unfolds down the road.

A couple of reports in one(since last night's is so small).
Here are the scores for Dec 13th's games.
1. Chicago beat Tampa Bay 4-0. Chicago dominated from start to finish, and Niemi was excellent again. He has started 7 games, and of them 3 were shutouts. Patrick Kane left the game after suffering an upper body injury(I hate how the teams are allowed to be so freaking vague about injuries). It looks like he either got hurt when he fell against the boards(he was tripped) or the puck hit him. It remains to be seen if he will miss any time or not.
2. Colorado beat Calgary 3-2. Calgary tried to pin their hopes for victory on Kiprusoff alone(yet again) and that cost them. They are going to burn the guy out if they keep this up.
Here are the scores for Dec 14's games(I will update the Vancouver/LA score when it is a final)
1. Philadelphia beat Boston 3-1. The was a game that they deserved to win as they played quite well and peppered Thomas with a lot of shots. I am sure there were a lot of relieved sighs in the Philly locker room when this game was done.
2. Toronto beat Ottawa 3-2. YEAH!!!! They are playing well right now, and are now only 2 points out of a playoff spot. Freakin' A!
3. Florida squished the Islanders like a little bug, 7-1. The Islanders are struggling quite a bit right now.
4. Atlanta beat the Rangers 3-2 in the shootout. The Rangers certainly tried to win(as they had a lot of shots on net), but victory was denied to them yet again.
5. Nashville beat Columbus 5-3. Nashville keeps on rising, and Columbus keeps on falling, falling, falling. Thud.
6. Buffalo beat Montreal 4-3. Considering how good Buffalo has been playing, I did not like Montreal's chances(no offense, Ila). That being said, they gave Buffalo a run for their money. Close game.
7. Detroit beat Phoenix 3-2. A game where neither Datsyuk or Zetterberg got any points. That is a rarity. A same they won, though, as I wanted Bryzgalov to get me two more points.
8.Vancouver VS La: TBD
