Transgender pageant winner murdered in South Africa

A South African who had won a Miss Gay pageant was found in his rented room with his throat slit, news24 reported.

Thapelo Makutle, 23, had argued late Friday night with two men about his sexuality, his friend, Shaine Griqua told mambaonline.com. Those two men followed him home, broke down his door and killed him, Griqua said.

Makutle, known as Queen Bling, was active in the LGBT community in the Kuruman region, a rural area in the north, Griqua told mambaonline.com. He said his friend identified as gay and recently started calling himself transgender.

"It's so sad. I can't describe the pain that we are feeling right now," Griqua told mambaonline. "We have lost a young, talented, gay man who was open about who he was. The last few days have been like a dark cloud."

Griqua, the director of Legbo Northern Cape, a nonprofit that provides sexual health education, released a statement saying that witnesses had seen Thapelo?s body, and that his genitalia had been ?severed and inserted into his mouth.?

There was no sign of burglary, Griqua said, according to globalpost.com.

Police have not arrested anyone in the case, according to media reports.

South Africa has long been lauded for its liberal positions on gay rights. The country was the first to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation in its constitution, and same-sex marriage became legal in 2006.

But a Human Rights Watch report from 2011 found that black lesbians and transgender men in rural areas of South Africa face ?extensive discrimination and violence in their daily lives, both from private individuals and government officials.?

Nearly all 120 people interviewed by Human Rights Watch said they lived in fear of sexual assault and that they were reluctant to approach police for protection.

I was very saddened to read this. Too bad someone wasn?t there for him. My heart goes out to Thapelo?s friends and family. Many of the comments are troubling as well.

A transgender teen made history at Marina High School in Huntington Beach Friday night when she was named homecoming queen.
Cassidy Lynn Campbell was born Lance Campbell, but has been living as a woman for the past three years.
At first Campbell said running for homecoming queen was all about her.
"And then I realized it wasn’t for me anymore and I was doing this for so many people all around the county and the state and possibly the world and I am so proud to win this not just for me, but everyone out there," Campbell said.
The 16-year-old did face some negativity over her nomination from fellow students, but she and Principal Paul Morrow are proud of the way the majority voted.
"We're proud of the message from home of the Vikings has been one of equity, acceptance, tolerance and respect," Principal Morrow said.
Campbell says her next step is to become more active in the LBGT community and fight for equality.
Her message to other teens like herself, "Just to be true to themselves and to let people know around them and to not keep it bottled up inside."

The headline reads:
'Painless death' or 'precipitous cliff'? Transsexual chooses euthanasia after failed operation
but the article is really about the increasing number of legal euthanasia cases in the Low Countries.

To me, singling out the one transsexual individual is an attempt at sensationalism to attract more attention to the article and might be considered a slap in the face to the entire LGBT community. You be the judge.

Crazy Arizona strikes again.

Just weeks after Monica Jones was seen in mainstream media protesting the failed religious discriminatory law in Phoenix, she was offered a ride while walking near her house. The driver turned out to be an undercover police officer who then arrested her for "manifestation of prostitution."

This law 23-52 Prostitution, soliciting an act of prostitution and related offenses, is an overbroad statute which enables officers to arrest woman for no other reason than asking if they are police. The law is used to feed people to Project Rose as the city conducts massive drag nets hauling in dozens of individuals at a time. This profiling of woman by police is contested by the Arizona ACLU which notes that "The difference between 'innocent' and 'criminal' behavior often comes down to how a person looks."

A 2011 study in NYC found that 59% of transgender respondents said that they had been stopped by police. So over half of our sisters in NYC had they lived in Phoenix would have faced the prospect of Project Rose.

Ms Jones was brought handcuffed, without being charged by police, to a church basement. It was then established that she hadn’t been previously charged with similar "crimes." She was told if she enrolled in Project Rose and successfully completed she would have no arrest record.

Project Rose is the work of the Center for Arizona Policy (CAP) which has been dictating their ideology to the legislature effectively forcing their religion, through the police, on the general population.

The Capstone of Project Rose is religious programming. It requires a person, based on how they look, to find their god [for] assistance in changing jobs and housing, even if they don't need or want this "help."

As a former college football player who still works out several times a week, I think the physiques of Buck Angel and Loren Cameron are awesome.

By now most of you have probably heard about the legislation that was signed by Governor Mike Pence that would allow Indiana businesses to effectively discriminate against individuals based on sexual orientation or gender identification.
