Quick question about gaining reputation

This is puzzling me to as well. Regardless of which forum I'm on, I always try to keep my posts interesting (or at least, not bland).

I'm new here and I don't understand where the cut-off point is for board privledges. Is there a magic number where as soon as you hit it, you're able to view more than 11 pictures a day? Is it simply when a moderator feels like upgrading you? If it's the latter then that's kinda odd to me considering that I don't expect mods to be monitoring everyones posts to see what's "interesting" and what's not.

I know I sound naive but I'm just curious.
