I'll try to get it back on track. I'm thinking of changing my desktop wallpaper. Which one should I pick?

(Somebody went to a lot of trouble to make a Windows 95 theme for Windows 10. Why? )

The Windows 95 logo of course. What could be sexier?

Tried to talk my wife into something like this for Christmas…

From 1926! Look at how Frosty is smiling. Bet that’s not a carrot down there…

Damn! It’s all of my “ex’s”...

God, the girl in the red dress and stockings. Yes, he IS way too old for you…

She’s thinking “Shit. Never shoulda 'swiped right.' But his profile sounded so hot...”

My wife after she found out I headed down to Nashville last night to watch the Colts/Titans game with Hayley. Even worse, she discovered I bet our savings on Tennessee...

No reason, just think this girl is super hot and sexy AF. Don’t even care if she smokes in bed or not…

The first time I put my hand there on a girl I got slapped… Shouldn't have done that with my teacher.

Cute. From 1965. YOU tell her Pluto’s not a planet anymore…

OK baby. Let’s see you try that with an iPhone…

I see nothing weird about this. Shit, I have women on the brain 24/7…

Since quite a few of my posts in this thread feature covers of beautiful women from “Film Fun” magazine, I decided to do some research on it before I have to start in again next week on my real job. They are very risqué. Especially for almost 100 years ago! Not that I’m complaining.

From MagazineArt.org:

Quote:
FILM FUN ran from July 1915 to September 1942. Actually, however, it traced its roots back to the late 19th century, having begun as JUDGE'S SERIALS (1887 to January 1890), reprinting material from the humor magazine JUDGE. This became JUDGE'S LIBRARY (February 1890 to July 1912) and then THE MAGAZINE OF FUN (August 1912 to June 1915). Apparently FILM FUN did continue on after 1942 under some other name.

Going by the covers it's hard to take FILM FUN seriously as a movie magazine. Well, it didn't take itself seriously. In the beginning it covered humorous movies and actually had comedians on the covers. By 1921 it was running painted covers by the likes of John Held, Jr., and by 1922 Enoch Bolles was painting for it. Bolles did women in bathing suits and women in skimpy clothes; some believe they were called "pin-ups" (how quaint that sounds today!). Meanwhile the magazine continued with stories about movies, biographies of the stars, and lots of pictures. Maybe they were racy by the standards of the day, but today we find them, well, quaint. From mid-1923, until just before it folded in 1942 (after changing to photographic covers, partly because it was under threat of an obscenity prosecution), Bolles painted almost every cover for this magazine.
(Ila even makes an appearance. Except it can’t be him. Because ila is the same age as me... "29." So it must be one of his ancestors. Either way I would trade places… )

My favorites above are the girl in the yellow swimsuit (from 1933) and the one next to her lying on the beach (from 1934).

This site is educational. So we know now that “the perfect ass” has existed for at least 85 years…

(You learn something everyday. For example, it took me a while to “catch on” to the “double-entendre.” in the last one. “Petting” is an old-fashioned term for “making out” sometimes including everything all the way up to all-out fucking. Don’t know how I knew that… I think it was from watching re-runs of “Happy Days.” )

Hard to believe. But that was really what PC graphics looked like back then. "CGA" video was only three colors (Cyan, Magenta, White) @ 320x200 resolution.

Those pics are the actual screen sizes. And the original IBM color display was very expensive. That's why so many screens you see from that time are Green or Amber monochrome. Ever seen a "Lotus 1-2-3" graph?

Here's a few more "screenshots" for you to enjoy. Bet lots of guys beat off to this...

Atari however was way ahead of the game. The fourth pic was from an "Atari ST."

Just a few years later, by the late 80's, "EGA" and "VGA" graphic standards were becoming commonplace. The last two are from 1988.

(Strip Poker was written in GWBASIC. "Dr. Andy" was in kindergarten. One of the first things he ever did was write a short subroutine that caused her to strip when you pressed F10. To the delight of his friends. Someone uploaded his version to a BBS. Anyone remember those? Very naughty boy... )

Dunno the best place for this? "Retro" subject for sure!

Today “Dr. Andy” answers a student’s question about the “Millennial Generation” and helps her with her graph. She wants to create a chart in Excel comparing the Year Born to the Year They Got A Cell Phone. My reply is below. By the way, “Dr. Andy” got his first cellphone in 1995. A Motorola “flip phone.”

This hopefully should settle any disputes about where the generations begin and end. That “Born Before 1985” bullshit REALLY pisses me off. Maybe it’s just because I hate that picture. Besides they're wrong.

And moving the start of “Gen Z” back to the mid-90’s was, I believe, just a way to sell more shit to kids. You really can’t change the “generations” arbitrarily. Or else the “Millennials” only lasted for about 10 years.

Second pic. Alicia Silverstone from “Clueless.”

Default 1970?

Realized that 2020 is almost over. Soon 1971 will be “50 years ago.” Shit. I still think “the 80’s” were “only 20 years ago...” You mean they’re not?

Was really amazed at the amount of sexism in many of the ads of the time. Some were so bad—particularly in the area of technology—I didn’t want to share them even as humor. I think the 60’s were actually better. Hell, most of these are bad enough...

Enjoy this look back.

The “IBM 370” came out in 1970. I didn’t even know there WAS an “IBM 370.” Of course I know about the “360” from my study of technology. I’ve given lectures on it and its place in history. She’s saying: “Andy sent me a dirty message. I didn’t even know you could DO that... we’ll have to try it... (giggle) He’s so naughty. But why did he have to use so much paper?”

“Vogue” November 1970. The model’s name was Donna Jordan. I should know who she is. Found out she was born in 1950. Very beautiful and sexy and popular model of the time.

I’ve been studying this cover all day while working on my computer trying to make sense of it. What exactly are they saying? This was at a time when the United States was involved in the Vietnam War and there was a real “cultural battle” going on at home. Nixon was president. He had campaigned on “law and order” and the support of what he called the “silent majority.” National Lampoon was a satirical humor magazine known for provocative covers. Anyway, she’s really pretty with long hair. Why is the “son of a bitch prick barber” cutting it? And is that her dad? He looks more like he’s from the 1930’s. Maybe that’s the point? Perhaps I’m reading too much into it but I see a lot going on here.

This ad was interesting for many reasons. The stuff about “time sharing” and other business applications “Dr. Andy” found fascinating. Plus I found a date for tonight. Maybe we could go see “Easy Rider”? Preliminary research shows this system originated in the 1960’s but who cares...

“Dr. Andy” teaches typing! Ask me if I love my work?

“Jasmine” is NOT from 1970. She’s from 2008. But that is a Johnny Lightning Limited Edition 1970 Dodge Challenger. I’m gonna need a car. Besides Jasmine looks like a “Future Wife” to me!

Good news. Hayley is currently leading 4 to 1. You can probably guess which of the two is already gracing my desktop...

However, the Windows 95 logo might be “sexier” then most people think. In 1995, Microsoft chose the song “Start Me Up” by the Rolling Stones as the theme song for the release of their new operating system. It was played during commercials and you could even order the album “Tattoo You” directly from Microsoft.

Microsoft was also pushing, at the time, the “educational” aspects of technology and targeting younger people (especially grade and middle school students such as myself). Of course Apple had this market wrapped up almost from the beginning. I remember that Microsoft targeted “Encarta” a “multimedia” CD-ROM based encyclopedia at people my age. I still have my copy and it is painful to look at almost 24 years later. Once I showed it to my current students (college age) during a discussion of the evolution of interactive technology and they couldn’t stop laughing at it. The “basketball” video is a classic.

Anyway, I digress. Someone in "PR" wasn't paying attention... If you are familiar with the lyrics to “Start Me Up” you know it’s not appropriate for a “family friendly” product. Also it received unintended ridicule from “IT” professionals with the lyric “You make a grown man cry” as it was notoriously difficult to work with. But it gets better… Here are some of the actual lyrics, my favorite are the last two:

If you like it, I can slide it up

Slide it up, slide it up, slide it up

You, you, you make a grown man cry

You, you made a dead man come

You, you made a dead man come
