Is it true you can buy used panties in an automat, like with cigarettes?

If I want to sniff used panties, I want them fresh and warm!

A friend of mine asked a couple of Japanese people he knows about this a few years ago - they had absolutely no idea what was talking about. Apparantly, he was told later, there was one machine in Tokyo for about a month that dispensed used panties but it wasn't a great success...
