Good question. We have threads here for both.
Absent a formal definition, perhaps from one or more of our knowledgeable members, I would offer my personal observation which is that many CD's do not necessarily look feminine at all, they seem to be mostly guys who really enjoy the feeling of wearing girls' clothing. Femboys on the other hand, generally seem to posess genuine feminine features, in face, body and mannerisms, even when dressed in boys' clothing but have not taken any steps to actual transition.
I'd really like to see comments from someone who, unlike me, actually knows what they're talking about.

I appreciate your effort to answer the question, but I think your explanation is misfocused. Perhaps the distinction for the person looking at pictures of various people is as you write, but from the perspective of the CD or femboy I believe it to be quite different. That is where the focus of a definition should lie.

A crossdresser does not self-identify as female, but as a male in female clothing. Otherwise, the CD is a transsexual.

In my experience, the "femboys" (or "traps" -- a term I use a lot in my posts in this thread and that I have defined previously) either identify as female or are getting very close to (struggling with) admitting that they have gender dysphoria.
