Actually, he never asked. He made a statement: "I do not know why ..." What you ascribe as a quotation never appears in his post. So, were this about being an English teacher ... well, figure it out.

But my point was not about being an English teacher, but precisely about the presumption that one can explain for another. And my point was not meant contentiously, but in the interest of real discussion.
