Little Andr? arrived home after his hockey game, threw open the door, and ran to his Dad.

"How was the game, son? How did you do?" asked his father, who had been unable to attend the game.

"You aren't going to believe it, Dad!" Andr? exclaimed. "I was responsible for the winning goal!"

"That's wonderful," his dad said. "How did you do that?"

"I missed my check on the other team's high scorer!"

At a game between the Leafs and the Habs, a fan suddenly found himself in the thick of dozens of flying bottles.

"There's nothing to worry about, lad," said the elderly chap siting next to him. "It's like the bombs during the war. You won't get hit unless the bottle's got your name on it."

"That's just what I'm afraid of," said the fan. "My name's Johnny Walker."

One more. This one's for my friend shadows.

The last time the Leafs won a Stanley Cup, most Leafs fans were in diapers. Guess what? The next time the Leafs win a Stanley cup, those same fans will be in diapers.

Boston is playing in Montreal tonight. The face-off is just over a half hour away. What do you think, smc, will Boston take the lead again only to lose to a resurgent Montreal in the third period?

I am sorry to say that such a scenario sounds eminently plausible. Of course, the Habs might just decide not to toy with the Bruins tonight and crush them from the initial face-off.

Call me a disgruntled fan ...

Oh, and by the way, I had the misfortune of being at the game to which you are referring. It's the one where I met the Habs fans on the subway (see earlier post).

It is a home game for Montreal and they do play quite well at home. I think that Montreal will come out and play hard right from the start. They no better than to give only a half-hearted effort at home.

I remember your post about that game. Sorry about the way it turned out. I'm glad that Montreal won, but I'm sorry that it was a friend's team that they beat.

Default Bopston at Montreal

Less than a minute left and Montreal just scored when Boston was on a powerplay. It's now 2 - 0 for Montreal and the first period just ended.

Thanks for the update, ila. It's bad enough that the Habs ruin my hockey-watching (at least so far) by scoring when the Bruins are a man up. Now you have to remind me of something I already know in the place I visit to escape my hockey malaise by changing my focus to some beautiful gurly cocks!

At least you get to see a good game where both teams are still in sniffing distance of a playoff spot.

Me? My team gets to face the other cellar dweller from the West...the Edmonton Oilers.

At least the Leafs are ahead 5-2. Third win in a row? They always seem to play better when the season is pretty much over. They did this last year(and the year before). They stink for the majority of games, then make a mad run at the end of the season...and usually end up 9th at best. Arghhhhh!

So, to recap:

Montreal 2 Boston 1 at the end of the second period.

Toronto 5 Edmonton 2 at the end of the second period.

Actually, I just checked the Boxscore from the Montreal/Boston game. Boston only has 11 shots after 2 periods and Montreal only has 16 shots. It doesn't look like it is that interesting of a game. Are the shots on goal misleading in this case, Ila? Perhaps there may not be a lot of shots, but they are all quality ones?

The game is over and Montreal won 3 - 2. It was a good game with quite intense action. Both teams skated well and played hard. Yes, all shots were quality ones.

That's good to hear. I hate the games where there is endless cycling of the puck and not a lot of quality shots.

Toronto gave me a bit of a fright with their game tonight. They ended up winning 6-4, but they also had a 5-1 lead at one point. A bright spot was Kessel having two goals and an assist in this game.

ila's description is quite accurate. Unfortunately, not all work of the goalies was at the same level of quality.

Did Rask let in a soft goal or something? I was just following the game on nhl.com, so I don't know any particulars(besides shots on goal, penalties, etc.).

No, Rask did quite well. My comment was simply a reference to the fact that he failed to keep one more goal out of the net than the Habs.

Boston Pizza is the name of a franchise of restaurants(like Kelsey's, The Keg, Olive Garden, etc.). I thought it originated in Boston due to the name. I guess I was mistaken.

The maple syrup covers the rank odour that is emanating from the Leaf's locker room. Thank goodness for small miracles.

As we like to say around these parts, f**k Phil Kessel!

When you say they gave you a bit of a fright, do you mean that when they actually appeared to playing hockey you thought your heart was going to go into cardiac arrest?

It seems to me that both the Leafs and the Oilers could've used some of their 10 goals earlier in the season in games that mattered.

Alas, I know all too well that happening with the Leafs this season.

It looks like the Devils lost to the Islanders tonight(4-2)! I don't think that dauls is going to be a very happy camper!

Bryzgalov got another shutout for Phoenix tonight. It is his eighth of the season!

That's funny. Boston Pizza is a Canadian chain. Boston has good pizza, but it's not something for which the city is famous. New Haven, Connecticut -- now there's a place where they take pizza seriously. People fight over which place has the best. Or Chicago, where arguing about which "deep dish" pizza is best is a citywide pasttime, sort of like arguing at what point in the season the Cubs are going to fold.

Whoops, wrong thread.

I agree.

I don't know why you(Boston fans) hate Phil Kessel so much. It looks like you are going to get a #1 pick for him(and possibly next year as well!).

And trust me when I say this without any malice, I am pretty shocked that Boston is at the bottom for goals scored. Even with the loss of Kessel, I thought they would have scored more goals(they were pretty high on the list last season)! I know that they have had some injuries, but some of the players have been underperforming from the start. When the season started, I honestly thought they would be one of the top four teams in the East!

Thanks for the clarification. We have a Boston Pizza in town, but I have yet to taste any of their food.

It could be very good. I have no idea. Chain pizza, though, is not usually the best. Whatever it tastes like, though, rest assured it has nothing to do with Boston except that perhaps the guy who started it has some connection to the city. Or, perhaps, if the restaurant offers pizzas with things for which Boston is famous as toppings, such as cod, or baked beans, or fried dough, or clam chowder, or cream pie. None of those sound even remotely good as pizza toppings, but shadows -- admit it -- the creampie is getting you interested.

Coconut creampie?

Boston Pizza does not just serve pizza. There are numerous items in it, and their pizzas do not look like the pizzas you would find at a Little Caesar's, Pizza Hut, etc. Maybe they'll have one near the Roger's Centre?

Rask's performance was what kept Boston in the game when their defence forgot to keep playing.

One night the Devils beat the Penguins, the next they lose to the fg Islanders. Trailing 3-1 the Devils closed the score to 3-2 before giving up a fg shorthanded goal in the 3rd minute of a double minor.

Next up the Bruins on Monday night. We'll probably help Boston in their struggle to hold onto 8th spot.

Sorry, shadows, but if am traveling to Toronto to see a game, I will also be eating much finer cuisine. I'll even treat.

Please, don't do us any favors. I'm beginning to be a very strong advocate of hockey euthanasia.

ila, don't let them off the hook by saying they forgot.

Oh, and by the way, it's defense that they weren't playing. Maybe if they did play defence, they would be better.

It's a shame the Devils don't share your point of view. When will they learn to put the teams that have given up on the 2009/10 season out of their misery?

Well, my Maine Black Bears came to play tonight and tied up the best of 3 playoffs match. Tomorrow will decide who advances or not.

I'm always glad to hear the Black Bears are doing well. They have a fine hockey program up there in Orono.

No, ila's wording is correct. The way they are playing right now, the Bruins are straddling de-fence to the playoffs.

The Leafs, however, lost the damned key to the gate a loooong time ago. I think that Rat-fink bastard Toskala took it!

Wow! Now we all can have another reason for wishing we could be Canadian: so we can make puns like that with those wacky Great North spellings!

Of course. Defence - noun Defense - verb The act of getting on de-fence is de-fensing.

Anyone want to lay odds on how long Ovechkin will get suspended for the Game Misconduct he received for nailing Brian Campbell from behind into the boards? Or will he not get any suspension at all because he is a star player? It's not like he really got suspended the last time even though they "gave" him one. Everyone knew he was going to miss a few games due to injury so the suspension was only given because of that(he should have gotten the suspension to be started when he returned from the injury).

He plays hard, but he crosses the line from time to time. Just because he is a star player does NOT mean he shouldn't be suspended if he does something that warrants it.

I'm pretty sure Vladimir Putin has some say on what happens to Ovechkin ... or at least if the NHL knows what's good for it.
