Of course that said, business is still business -- so it still depends on what property you're talking about or which production studio was involved. Like anything else, you have some studios producing higher end, artistic things...but then you have just as many studios overseas cranking out product to meet a lowest common denominator sales point. So I guess some things really are universal no matter what country you're doing business in!

As for the names tossed out on this thread, what, no love for AKIRA?

Akira was the first Anime I ever saw! I still love it, it's so wonderfully bizarre. My absolute favorite anime is a series called Wolf's Rain. It's beatifully animated, though it's very dark (particularly towards the end)
