HIV can show up on tests within 48 hours of infection.
But this is only 75% of the time. It can take up to three months (and very occasionally six months) after infection, for HIV to show up in tests. And in the mean time, an individual is hugely infectious. It's Russian roulette for the actors, period. HIV cause/prevention is part of my job remit.
