Default Remembering Segway

There was an article this afternoon about the hype surrounding the “Segway” and why it is now considered a gigantic marketing “failure.” I didn’t realize it was 2001 when they were introduced. Thought it was much longer ago than that. Getting old…

We never studied them in any of my marketing classes in college. Probably because it was still too new. But I never really had a high opinion of it, nor did most of my friends. Definitely not “the invention of the century.”

Although I can see where it could be useful in certain situations.

But speaking entirely for myself, I wouldn’t be caught dead on one. Shit. The worst way to go would be to get hit by a truck while riding one of these…

Also the search term I used to find pics today was “segway assholes.”

I feel almost the same way regarding “scooters.” Especially if you are “over 21” and dressed for business and carrying a briefcase. We have some on campus and it’s OK for my students to ride them but me? Never. Besides my students all like my Harley better.

However I do not feel the same way about roller skates. That is Olivia Newton John from 1979 in the last pic.
