I'm sort of recapitulating what she said in that interview. Maybe I didn't phrase it well - she said that they (students, I reckon) were thinking they hit a home run when they were already on third base, and were of the Phillips Exeter type and couldn't take the more straightforward midwest types - or words to that effect. I interpreted that as "stuffy" - which may be putting words in her mouth, of course.
There is some of that going on, to be sure, but it's also lively. I think it depends on the circles you travel in, too.
