As long as the pitcher has the desire to win I'm not too bothered how mercenary they are. If there's one player on a team that you can get away with being a bit selfish, then it's the starting pitcher, it can be a lonely role. Fans love a winning pitcher.
It would be tough to lose Cliff Lee. His loss at the Phillies might put too much pressure on Halladay. Then add in affect of his switch to the NL, it may be a difficult first season.
Remember Lee did get the two wins for the Phillies in the World Series. But it's a good time to trade now.
