 I have been in "higher ed" for almost fifteen years if you count my time as a "TA" in grad school.  Just got back from another day in the classroom--and other than being a little hoarse from talking too much... 

 I feel great.  I honestly can't see myself ever doing anything else.  There are not that many careers where you get to make a real difference in someone's life.  It is nice when students remember you or come back to see you.
Each school year brings new challenges and rewards--it is like a cycle of growth and renewal.  Similar to the seasons.  Also I don't know of any other job where you have as much freedom to live as you like or express your opinions.  For the most part my colleagues are very open-minded and tolerant of diverse views and lifestyles.
