Well, Zocco, I cannot really "hate" you for mearly having an opinion. And, I can understand how people might get a "stereotyped" impression of "The Duke" as an actor and of his films. One thing about John Wayne (the actor) was he was always the consumate professional, always knew his lines and, knew where everyone and everything was supposed to be on a film set.
As "randolph" pointed out, he was great in "The Quiet Man". I must point out a few more of his best films, as well. "The Searchers", "True Grit", "The Shootist", "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence", "Red River", "El Dorado", "Rio Bravo", "The Horse Soldiers" and of course "Stagecoach" are great examples of his best work.
