The Oscars

I'm surprised that prior to the Oscars airing tonight, no one started a thread to argue which movies would win.
Then again, maybe people weren't that excited about this year's nominees.

So did anyone see the show or have thoughts about the winners?

:frown:I don't do movies. Real life is much more entertaining and rewarding than watching Al Bore.

Sophia looked pretty good, I must say.
She was working that old school Hollywood magic.

Overall, I thought the show was horrible. I like Hugh Jackman a lot and thought he made a great, personable host. I thought his opening number was basically funny -- I mean, how can you not laugh at him ending a song by singing "This is my dream, I'm Wolverine!"

But after that the show went straight downhill. The awards were still too predictable, and frankly I didn't care about the nominees anyway. The very fact that DARK KNIGHT, as the most popular movie in the entire friggin' world this year...to the tune of over a BILLION dollars...didn't get nominated in more categories or even as Best Picture just showed how out of touch the Academy has become. I saw someone online in a message board suggest that the Oscars had become such a niche thing now...with so many people no longer caring...that they should just make it a Pay-Per-View event next time. That's actually not a bad idea!
