This is true. A wild time can be had in TJ and along Revolution for sure, and for amazingly cheap prices, too. But since you said you're new to the area, just remember to walk to Revolution Street OR be sure to hop into a cab once you pass through the border checkpoint gate (if you're going at night, take the cab since it's a lot safer).

Oh, and one more tip that most guys visiting TJ for a first time don't know: American plated cars get stolen or broken into there like crazy. It's like ringing the dinner bell for car thieves. As a result, these days many car insurance policies WON'T cover your car if you're specifically driving there. It's true, you can actually void your car insurance by driving into TJ.

So, while you're on the San Diego side take the trolley down to the checkpoint gate, then walk or take a cab to Revolution Street...otherwise check with your insurance agent FIRST before even thinking about taking your car.
