New Movies.

I just saw the trailer for the new Sherlock Holmes movie. It looks like it would be a good one. Robert Downey Jr. plays as Sherlock and Jude Law is playing as "my dear Watson".

Any thoughts?

transjen 08-09-2009 10:55 PM

Could be good as long as they keep them in the 1800s and not put them in modern day London
 Jerseygirl Jen

The Conquistador 08-09-2009 11:11 PM

Yes it is set in the 1800's.

transjen 08-09-2009 11:37 PM

Then it may be pretty good as Holmes wotks best when he's set in the time he was created, Every time they try to mordenize him it screws everything up
 Jerseygirl Jen

Jenae LaTorque 08-09-2009 11:37 PM

Yes both are fine actors, but I will say that I am having trouble seeing Jude as Dr. Watson. Well, we shall see, won't we? LOL If I can buy into Downey being a black soldier in Nam, then who knows what's possible. I'll admit that it took quite a while for me to recognize Robert in that role.

District 9

Has anyone seen "District 9"? The sci-fi movie produced (but not directed by) Peter Jackson....
Just wondering if its any good.

johndowe 08-16-2009 10:32 PM

Hi there.

Saw Transformers 2 liked it better than the first, but there is 1 thing i didn't like; JETFIRE, i still have "him" from years ago, and he WASN'T a SR71 Blackbird, but isn't i great when the two gutsyest ones in the movie are also the youngest and dating eachother?

JohnDowe.

violet lightning 08-26-2009 11:03 PM

District 9

Ok, well I saw "District9" the other day, and I gotta say, I was a little disappointed. It had some really nice FX, especially the gigantic spaceship that sits over Johannesburg.
The plot and characters..meh.
I did like that it was a South African movie, not the usual Hollywood stuff, but overall, not impressed.
They also set it up for a sequel.

The movie I'm looking forward to with hope is the Woodstock movie.

The Conquistador 09-14-2009 11:23 PM

Has anyone seen the trailer for Alice In Wonderland? They have Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter. My only gripe is that they cast Helena Bonham Carter as Alice. You'd think they'd use someone alot younger like Dakota Fanning or something.

aw9725 09-14-2009 11:50 PM

I think Helena Bonham Carter is the Red Queen. Anne Hathaway is the White Queen. Don't know who is Alice. Looks like it might be good. Really liked Johnny Depp as Dillinger in "Public Enemies."

Looking forward to "Avatar" later this year. With all the hype surrounding it, I hope we won't be disappointed.

Okay. I just saw part of the trailer and assumed she was Alice.

I am also looking forward to seeing Avatar. Is it true that James Cameron is producing it?

Yes. It's due out December 18th. Sam Worthington who played "Marcus" in Terminator Salvation is in it. So is Sigourney Weaver.

Oh a classic ( thief james caan 1981 ) an awesome movie worth watching

The boat that rocked!

OK this film is great! I know it may not of heard of it in the states but trust me this is the greatest comedy ever!
One of the main characters is american and he is funny as fuck!

I've always had a thing for Helena, so I can't agree. That said, it's typical casting by Burton. In fact, Helena is his WIFE! And Johnny Depp??? How many films has he done with Burton, now??? He's been a lead character in about half of them! This is by-the-numbers Burton, and that's being kind.

Did you recognize Tom Cruise in that film? The guy dancing to hip hop, I couldn't believe my eyes... Tom Cruise is always the ladies pretty boy, how did he end up in that role? LOL

I love the new Star Trek movie, it's a good Trekkie movie all around. Some people may complain that it got a few elements of Star Wars added into it, but I disagree, apart from perhaps the fighting scene with the guy from Harold and Kumars.

The effects are great, and the story is awesome, if you ever liked Star Trek before you won't be disappointed. If you don't like Sci-Fi, you might even still like this movie, as they seriously reduced the slow science infested babble scenes found in previous Trek ventures, and added way more action.

Although you get the sense that they were trying to appease to a younger audience when they made this film, perhaps trying to get this new generation of knuckle heads into Sci-Fi.

Oh, I seriously recommend watching the movie!! :)

I didn't realise it was him until about ¾ of the way through, then realised because of his voice :p

I'm currently looking forward to seeing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Sherlock Holmes, A Nightmare on Elm St and maybe Toy Story 3.

Helena Bonham Carter plays the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland. Alice is played by a girl named Mia Wasikowska.

There is so much hype for Avatar right now, it almost seems impossible that it will live up to it's expectations.

I hope I'm wrong, though. It looks like it could be a very interesting movie.

I wonder if thats the one released as "Pirate Radio" here in the states?
(ship that broadcasts rock music into Britain in the early 1960's when it was banned)
Haven't seen it yet, but it looks good.

2012 sucked predictably.
I am looking forward to "Avatar". "Alice" sounds good, but I hope they don't remake it like Depp's "Willy Wonka". That was pretty bad.

Kakariko 12-01-2009 08:19 AM

The trailer for the remake of Clash of the Titans looks interesting..

aw9725 12-11-2009 12:53 AM

Avatar Premiere

Went to see 2012 the other night with my new ladyfriend and saw an incredible trailer for Avatar. Looks like a winner!

Here is a review of the "World Premiere":

Kakariko 12-11-2009 07:59 AM

The trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is out, for those interested, even though the movie doesn't come out until November next year. The movie is coming out in two parts, first part in November 2010, next part sometime in 2011.

I'm looking forward to District 13: Ultimatum, which is a sequel to District B13, an absolutely epic movie. Go watch the trailer to District B13 on YouTube or something, if you haven't yet seen the movie. Absolutely brilliant!

Hedonistman 12-12-2009 12:01 AM

Biggest Budget Ever

Avatar came in at just under $500 MILLION,,,, easily making it the most expensive film ever produced. I'm surprised the the pre release hype has not been in hype r drive, lol. I'm not a huge fan of the self proclaimed " I'm king of the world',,, so it'll be interesting to see if Avatar turns out to be the Cleopatra of this decade ,,,

Kakariko 12-17-2009 01:30 AM

I saw Paranormal Activity last night and thought it was great. Very interesting and quite creepy at parts. The suspense was excellent.

The Conquistador 12-17-2009 10:08 AM

There's been talk of a Metroid movie in the makes amongst my brethren of nerds. Has anyone heard anything about it?

The Conquistador 12-23-2009 10:23 PM

Has anyone seen Avatar yet? I saw it and I must say that It was quite bitchin in 3D.

I wonder what it would be like during an acid trip?

I saw "Sherlock Holmes" the day after Christmas. It is thoroughly enjoyable. Robert Downey Jr.'s Holmes is a wise-cracking, sometimes self-loathing, co-dependent who cannot do without Watson. Jude Law's Watson is self-assured, brave, and strong. The sequences where Holmes explains, in slow motion, how he will accomplish something -- and then does it at real speed -- are very cool. And the way the movie works in Holmes' arch-nemesis is quite clever.

Highly recommended.

Steve.Dark 01-04-2010 07:13 PM

I saw Avatar in 3-d, it was absolutely amazing! Though I wish I had gotten there earlier... I had a bad seat

km1 01-10-2010 09:48 PM

I saw Avatar recently, and while it looked amazing the plot was pretty weak and predictable and there wasn't much to the characters. Cameron spends all this time and effort on making the movie look amazing he completely forgot to write a script. Why didn't he just hire someone else to go over his version and give it some life? Instead we get a movie which seems to be only an excuse to showcase all the visuals.

The Conquistador 01-11-2010 12:42 PM

Avatar was pretty much Pocahontas in 3D but way cooler!

EdwardSinclair 01-27-2010 01:21 AM

I am mighty impressed

I am really glad that 2009 was a good year for movies... at least for me. It's been a long time since I have seen so many good films in one year alone. I can't even believe 2009 had the revival of star-trek, that's too much sci-fi in one year... I am so jubilant!!

I did watch Avatar when it came out, and went to see it again yesterday, and I was surprised that the movie theater was still full, and I got an ever worse seat than last time... :(
If this film was indeed expensive, I'm sure they've covered the expenses in ticket sales alone. I have to say I have seen the movie in two different countries, and in two very different continents and the room was still full over a month later. I recommend Avatar, but make sure your cinema has the 3D version.

Also watched Sherlock Holmes, and Downing nailed that role as Sherlock.. nuff said!! I hugely recommend this film, it has a clever twist and I enjoyed it.

emi_baby 01-27-2010 05:22 AM

Remake!

Has anyone seen the trailer to the new Karate Kid movie starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith

I'm hoping it will be a good one and it won't ruin the classic old series cos Miyagi was brilliant!

Wax On, Wax Off :D

smc 01-27-2010 06:52 AM

I forgot to mention after seeing "Sherlock Holmes" a few weeks back that one of the previews really caught my eye:

"Hot Tub Time Machine"

A bunch of guys travel back in time a couple of decades after getting into a hot tub. The scenes where they are trying to "hook up" with girls at a pre-digital-age party are hilarious! I laughed so hard I nearly choked, and I made a note to keep an eye out for this movie so I don't miss it when it is released.

It promises to be pure, ridiculous escapism!

Here's a link where you can watch the trailer:

There have been quite a few post-apocalyptic movies out in 2009. How does this one fare against the others(if you've seen them, that is)?:)

The Clash of the Titans remake looks good , maybe it will get the wheels turning on the God of War movie.

If it does well that is.

Book of Eli was pretty good. Think The Road Warrior and The Blind Swordsman Zatoichi mixed around a Christian theme.

I will say this; it's not a movie for Jenae...

Has anyone seen the trailer for the new TRON movie? Jeff Bridges is in it as Kevin Flynn and his son is looking for him in the world where he's been in for the time being. I am kinda so-so on it but at the same time, it seems they got back some of the old crew from the original movie.

Yes, I watched the trailer, and noticed that some of the old crew is back too. I'm eagerly awaiting for this release, I did like the old tron too. Finally, sci-fi is making a come back.

I own the 25th Anniversary version on DVD. Considering how awesome the movie looked way back then, I can't wait to see how it looks like now with all the advances in technology/computer animation.:)

LOL! I am not sure if you are saying that in jest or not, but in case you're being serious I can say that you should be able to find it in your local Future Shop or another store similar in nature.

Unless Disney did what they like to do with their animated films and stuck it in the "Disney Vault", you should be able to find a copy of it somewhere for purchase.:)

I too remember it as a great movie! I would have been 10 or 11 when it came out--geeze that was a long time ago... Did they have computers back then? Used to own it on "VHS" as well.

3 Universal Soldier movies.

It was a so-so movie compared to the others but I will say this; the ending fight scene between Van Damme and Lundgren is sweet! It was like 10 minutes of them punching and kicking the crap out of each other!

I read a couple of reviewers say that the writing wasn't that great, but the actors performed quite well and made the movie more enjoyable. Would you agree with their assessment?

No because they kept it close to the O.G. so they really didn't have to write much they did change who the wolf man was from the O.G. but other than that it was out standing movie:)

Also, the full trailer for the new Nightmare on Elm St movie is out and unfortunately it doesn't look too great. Really not a fan of Freddy's new voice :frown:

Some other interesting looking movies to look out for: Get Him To The Greek, Cop Out, From Paris With Love. The first two are comedies, while the latter is directed/written by the same guys who did District B13. Also, there's a sequel to District B13 in the works, called District 13: Ultimatum.

I have not, but my Supervisor saw it and said it was really good. He said there were a lot of scary moments in it. I'll probably be giving it a rental soon. He also recommended Intacto(it is in subtitles and spoken in Spanish).

Wrong Turn 3? Sheesh! If they make one more wrong turn, they'll end up the place they started.;):p:lol:

I've not heard too many positive things about Jennifer's Body, so just a head-up rockabilly.

Star Trek kicks mega-ass! A great way to restart the franchise.:respect:

rockabilly 03-01-2010 09:54 PM

It's got an almost naked Meghan Fox in it ..... works for me. lol

I heard good things about Trek.

The Conquistador 03-01-2010 11:41 PM

The new Star Trek was badass!

Of course it is not all the intellectual chess game and diplomacy that made up most of the others so it is somewhat a "slap in the face" to the trekkie purists, but it is a great way to introduce newcomers to the world of Star Trek.

I can't wait to see Clash Of The Titans!!!:yes::yes:

The more I see the Alice In Wonderland commercials, the more I am inclined to think that it will be just another one of Tim Burtons usual play of "dark and/or slightly on an acid trip" that he always just overplays and repackages and people think it's the greatest thing in the world.

Not to sound like a sourpuss but it looks just like the motif from Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, 9 and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. C'mon Tim Burton!

I enjoyed Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, and Sleepy Hollow(I haven't seen the other movies you mentioned).:)

(and you're not a sourpuss because of your opinions, Postman. Nothing wrong with stating your opinion.:respect:)

A movie based off of a video game? Uwe Boll didn't direct this, did he?;)

Some other interesting looking movies to look out for: Get Him To The Greek, Cop Out, From Paris With Love. The first two are comedies, while the latter is directed/written by the same guys who did District B13. Also, there's a sequel to District B13 in the works, called District 13: Ultimatum.

I heard about that I am so looking forward to it. :)

I wanna see it but I have that sneaking suspicion that it will vaguely have anything to do with the game like Street Fighter, Dragon Ball or any other video game based movie. Hopefully Uwe Boll or Paul Anderson had nothing to do with the filming of this....

I just got "Clash of the Titans" on dvd and it includes a ticket to see the remake. :)

I am glad to see that I am not the only one that has no desire to see Uwe Boll's name attached anywhere near this movie.

My choice as the best film of last year, which is just being released in North America. Beware, it does have subtitles!

Well it's not a movie but I just picked up the 3rd season of Batman Beyond, which IMHO is the coolest Batman cartoon ever! :P

rockabilly 03-13-2010 09:48 PM

I watched "Bitch Slap" and "Cabin Fever 2".

Was Cabin Fever 2 a bad movie?

rockabilly 03-14-2010 01:45 AM

Cabin Fever 2 sucks.

It has none of the emotional attachment that was a key part of the original.

It relies on shock and grossout moments to move the plot along. To me none of the characters were memorable except the deputy who returns from the first movie.

The director wanted his name taken off the film because he felt the end product was a reflection of producer interference.
Watch the new remastered Cabin Fever when it gets re-released.

Thanks for the warning. I will try and steer clear of this steaming pile of poop.

From the way you describe it, it sounds like it is like Hostel. Hostel had no plot to speak of and was just a way to show as much gore as possible(the train part? Come on! I can suspend my belief for a movie, but that was way too far-fetched!). And they made a Hostel 2? Ugh.

Less than two weeks to wait for the movie premier of the decade.

No, a theatrical release on March 26. I saw a preview at the cinema when I went to see Sherlock Holmes around Christmas time.

You know, the cinema. The big room where they show movies on a big white screen. I heard they have a few of those in the greater Moose Plop, Ontario, metropolitan area, or wherever the hell you live.

It's got John Cusack -- a real movie star.

It may have ended up being that way since it had so much graphic content in it. It certainly sounded like it would be a good movie, but I never heard any comments about it.

Have you seen some of the movies John Cusack has been in?;) No guarantees with him, but I do enjoy the majority of movies I've seen him in. I cannot recall the name of the movie, but there is one where he takes the engine from the sports car of the "preppy jerk" and uses it on the group's boat to win the race. It was kind of cheesy(typical 80's fluff), but I enjoyed it.

Is that "Grandview, U.S.A"? I can't remember for sure. But he's made some really fine films, such as "Being John Malkovich," "Say Anything," "Eight Men Out," "Bullets Over Broadway, "High Fidelity" (my personal favorite), etc.

Nice dodge of the rest of my comment, my friend.
