Doctor Who was a re-run. They played " Voyage of the Damned " the series 4 opener.

rockabilly 11-15-2009 09:40 PM

Doctor Who "The Waters of Mars" will have it's American debut on BBC America Dec. 19

Re: The Waters of Mars

At first I was like. "Bah this is just another generic run of the mill storyline..."

But then that last ten minutes saved it.

Can't wait for the last 2 specials.

Is Maggie the Rani?
Thats the buzz floating around, Maggie will first appear on WATERS OF MARS

Woohoo! I thought that everyone missed my little "homage" earlier in the thread.:)

Is Torchwood any good(and is it still ongoing?)?:)

rockabilly 11-16-2009 08:20 AM

Torchwood was pretty good but after the events of the " Children of Earth " series it looks like Torchwood is done. This may have been done to free up Capt. Jack to appear in new Doctor Who episodes. But if it were up to me i'd bring Mickey , Martha , Sarah Jane and Gwen together and form a new Torchwood team. And Jen i'm not sure about Maggie .... guess we just have to wait and see.

How many seasons of Torchwood are there?

rockabilly 11-16-2009 08:33 AM

2 seasons and the Children of Earth serial.

The Children of Earth is a Torchwood special and not a Doctor Who special? I will admit that I am a little confused.:D

How many seasons of Doctor Who(new series) are now out there and how many specials are there to go along with it? I may have been answered earlier in this thread, but since I've already got this post started...;)

Listening to the suite from that now!! brilliant music!

With the Doctor Who relaunch .... 4 full seasons , 4 children in need charity specials and to fill out the year 4 specials ...
1. The Next Doctor
2. Planet of the Dead
3. The Waters of Mars
4. The Christmas Invasion 09 (not sure of actual name of special)

Then the new series begins in 2010.

Oh and there are animated Doctor Who dvd's out there w/ the 10th Doctor and Martha Jones.

Yeah, and their also releasing a red button special CGI movie about the doctors adventures at area 51. And the CGI looks horrid. Oh well, I suppose you could close your eyes and have it become an audio play.

rockabilly 11-16-2009 08:09 PM

I'm curious about the rumored new Doctor Who movie. If they tell the last Time War story then they'd need to bring Paul McGann back as the 8th Doctor and show his regeneration after burning and timelocking Gallifrey into the 9th Doctor. I've talked about that earlier in this thread , but as cool as it would be to see that .... i doubt they'd do it.

I know they are releasing the 4 specials on DVD, and that the Christmas Invasion(the older one) has been released on a season set of Doctor Who(not sure which season though), but what about the 4 charity ones? Are they "canon" stories and will they be available on DVD at a later date?

Thank you for answering all of my questions so far, rocka.:)

I have a feeling the new DR WHO movie will be handled like the two movies from the 60s and will have nothing to do with the reg series, Oh go to youtubw and you can watch the first DR WHO movie in one full time

I do believe you are talking about the two Dalek Invasion movies, right Jen? If so, they are really different than the stories from the series(I bought both movies on DVD). I don't want to say too much about them just in case Rocka or anyone else who reads this thread hasn't seen them yet.

rockabilly 11-17-2009 10:29 AM

The children in need specials are canon but very short .... i think maybe 20 minutes or so. I think "Time Crash" where the 10th Doctor forgot to raise his shields and his TARDIS merged w/ the 5th Doctors and they talked and made repairs is on the season 4 dvd set .... then he forgot to raise his shields again and collided w/ the Titanic as seen in Voyage of the Damned. The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead are on dvd now but i'm gonna wait and see if they put them all together in a box set.

Those are the ones both are a take on the first two Dalek stories of the first DR with some rewriting of the two movies i like the second one the best, Little known fact there was a DR WHO play back in the mid 70s but it never went past Englands verson of Broadway and as far as i know there are none of the preformances on tape

He also has trouble remembering his age. He states frequently 903 but is much older. Still a young man by Timelord standards.

They weren't too bad, especially considering the time that they were created. The special effects weren't the greatest(but was any Doctor Who effect back then?:D), but the storyline was entertaining. They were really similar movies though, eh Jen?;)

If someone had one of those performances on tape they would be a very rich person indeed!

That is probably why he calls himself the Doctor. He cannot recall his name.:p:D

rockabilly 11-18-2009 06:16 AM

Oh he knows his name , but can only say it during sometime special. River Song knew it and whispered it in his ear to get him to trust her in the Silence in the Library episode. I think he can only say his true name when he gets married.

I think they will hold off on the Doctors marriage. But the 10th Doctors time w/ River Song will most likely be told in novels.

Anybody watch Krod Mandoon on Comedy Central?

And i can't wait to see Guillermo del Toro's Hobbit film. If the filming and editing process is as grueling as it was on Peter Jackson , then you can expect a slimmer Guillermo when he finishes The Hobbit. lol

My only concern is the plan to make it into a trilogy. The Hobbit is a small book , i can maybe see them spacing it into 2 movies but that's stretching it.

Three movies? They made each of the main books into a single movie, yet the prequel book will be made into three movies? That sounds like a recipe for disaster for sure!

And rockin' with the new Avatar, Rocka!

rockabilly 11-22-2009 10:50 AM

Thanks , I think they may add more exposition or character development to stretch the story. It will be difficult to make 3 movies if they stick to the book faithfully. But more Gollum is a good thing "my precioussss". The studio wants another trilogy , the fans just want a good movie.

Back to Doctor Who .... the new logo is really nice.

rockabilly 12-20-2009 09:30 AM

Yup , He regenerates at the conclusion of it.

Donna Noble's granddad acts as his companion , and Lucy Saxon also comes back.

Then Matt Smith takes over as the Doctor.

transjen 12-20-2009 05:03 PM

According to the DR WHO magazine David Tenent is now consudered the best DR ever, But i wonder if they are just browning noising the newer fan base the ones who don't like anything before the 9th DR, I still feel the 4th DR was the greatest after all he was the DR that brought the show here to the USA
 Jerseygirl Jen

rockabilly 12-20-2009 06:02 PM

Tom Baker has always been the fan favorite for many years , even David Tennant said that Tom was the Docpor he grew up watching.

But i think Tennant really made the Doctor more accesible to a wider audience , but that also has alot to do w/ the writing and the show as a whole.

Tennant really pushed his Doctor to the limits on Waters of Mars. Having lost so much already he broke the laws of time to save the survivors of Bowie base and must deal w/ the consequences of those actions.

transjen 12-20-2009 06:44 PM

Waters of Mars was the DR's biggest failure in end he saved no one or saved anything so this time he failed and the cost of this failure will lead up to Matt Smith palying the DR and we will all suffer and pay the cost of his failure, Some place Colin Baker is now the happiest man on the face of the earth as he is no longer the worst DR Matt Smith is
 Jerseygirl Jen

rockabilly 12-20-2009 07:42 PM

Actually the 2 survivors who told of what happened on Bowie Base will have far reaching consequences that the Doctor didn't predict. Adelaide killed herself to try and put time and history back on course and for the most part succeeded w/ her part , but the other 2 did not and now they have descendents who should never have existed and it's causing a cascading ripple effect in time.

I'll give the new Doctor a chance to prove himself , after all his first battle will be against the Master.

rockabilly 12-20-2009 07:53 PM

I will say this , the new interior of the TARDIS is beautiful and so is his new companion. :D

But the new Doctor's attire is terrible and i hope they change it quickly.

The 8th DR

Yes the one who only appeared once in a tv movie produced not by the BBC and in away screwed up a lot of the DR WHO continum, So should this DR count or be disregarded like the two movies from the 60s, It looks like the tv series will continue to count him guess because of all the novels writen about this DR i always felt this DR should be disreduarded and it would unsrew a lot of the continum plus give the show an extra regenration but then no one ever asked me after all i'm only a long fan and don't matter

You matter to me, Jen.:):cool::respect:

If they wanted to, they could create a feasible means with which to "remove" that particular Doctor from continuity. Heck, they did it with the new Star Trek movie(and that was a changing of the entire Star Trek mythos!) so it shouldn't be too hard for just a single Doctor, can it?;)

rockabilly 12-24-2009 08:50 PM

And remember the "Shakla" Doctor , a supposed 9th alternate Doctor that traveled w/ an android version of the Master.

It was an animated Doctor Who special titled "Scream of the Shakla" the Doctor was voiced and looked like Richard Grant.

rockabilly 12-24-2009 09:03 PM

Sorry Shadows and Jen .... but the 8th Doctor is deadlocked and timelocked .... he is canon due to the novels and audioplays.

He might have only been in that awful movie but he is still counted. Besides it was the 8th Doctor who fought in the last Time War and ended it w/ dire consequences.

The shock of seeing what he did or as a side effect caused his regeneration into the 9th Doctor. And also split the 9th Doctor into 3 potential people , Christopher Eccleston , Rowan Atkinson , Richard Grant.

Since when did the novels and auido plays count? And they should have had the 7th DR be in the Time Wars not the 8th DR and the 9th DR should have been the 8th DR

I think they always counted , i think it's a case of bad quality control.

If the 8th Doctors movie had been better than it would have been continued w/ a new series back then , but it was just not that good especially when held up beside the previous Doctors.

If they wanted to, they could create a feasible means with which to "remove" that particular Doctor from continuity. Heck, they did it with the new Star Trek movie(and that was a changing of the entire Star Trek mythos!) so it shouldn't be too hard for just a single Doctor, can it?;)

Gee thanks

It all depends on who you talk to fans of STAR TREK all series STAR WARS and DR WHO have this problem with novels some claim they are part of the whole story others say they don't matter and there fore are not cannon i can care less about STAR WARS i've read a lot of the STAR TREK TOS novels and a lot of them were very good and some if counted is fine by me i've also read a few DR WHO novels and i find most to be well bad and poorly writen and should not count and sadly if the TIME WAR is ever done it will be in novel form i hope they find a good writer for it perhaps one of the STAR TREK novel writers or Peter David would be a good choice

No problem, Timelady Jen!:)

Darn those novels and audiotapes! Too bad we couldn't go back in time and destroy them all...wait a second! Since you are Timelady Jen we could go back in time to do that! Let's hop in your Tardis and change some history!;)

Wanna go for the ride, Rocka?:respect:

transjen 12-24-2009 09:41 PM

I have my own TARDIS but thanks. :D

Good writing is the key to being accepted by the fans. The Time War is one of the key pieces to the whole revival of the series.

My TARDIS while similiar to the Doctors is slightly different as my avatar shows... i left it parked in a bad neighborhood , Jens TARDIS looks like a Vette. :D

transjen 12-24-2009 10:22 PM

Looks like you left it in either Trenton NJ or Camden NJ it's a mircale it wasn't stolen
 Timelady Jen

I had the alarm set ... and "the club" attached to the door.

The perception filter is a little bit wonky. But it could've been worse.

I did have to hose her down after a hobo peed on her. >_<

transjen 12-24-2009 10:39 PM

While you were doing that i went back in time to my conception and made sure i was born a Ggirl so i now look differnt see my new avatar
