I have just always favored consoles as my gaming platform.

Thanks for the tips, rockabilly. I guess I'll hold off on getting PS3 then(to play the PS1 games I have) since they will no longer play the old games.

And consoles can be a lot of fun. I remember hours and hours of multiplayer(and single player) gaming with Goldeneye on the N64. One of the best games EVER!

And at a friend's house we used to play WWE(WWF back then) wrestling on the console(the N64 as well, I think). Four player gaming at it's finest.

PS3 does have alot of good exclusive games and more coming ... oh and they plan to release God of War 1 and 2 w/ enhanced graphics and resolution on PS3 when God of War 3 comes out. Maybe they will release more enhanced PS2 games at a bargain price. I'll get a PS3 later , maybe when it hits $200.

$200 isn't too shabby of a price. That would probably be about $250-$280 Canadian right? I think our exchange is pretty close right now(not exactly good for our economy, but should help the American border States) so the prices should be pretty close.

All current PS3's come with Blue-Ray now, don't they(since Sony owns both)? If so, that is an added bonus.

rockabilly 10-27-2009 11:19 PM

The PS3 as of now costs $ 300 and they've made it smaller and more streamlined. And yes blu-ray is standard w/ all PS3 models. The Wii dropped down to $200 and the X-Box 360 elite is now $300 as well. Later gotta go to work. :D

X-Box 360 elite? What are the differences between that system and the vanilla 360?

Have a good one, rockabilly.

rockabilly 10-29-2009 04:55 AM

The only real difference w/ the 360 Elite is ... it's black and has a 120gig harddrive. When Resident Evil 5 came out they had an Elite RE bundle w/ a Red Elite system and RE5 but they were limited and sold out quickly.

Thanks for the explanation. RE 5 is also out for the PC, and it looks pretty sweet!

It's getting great reviews. The GTA dlc disc is in stores now , and Assassins Creed 2 is coming soon.

EdwardSinclair 10-31-2009 11:49 PM

Hi guys,

I must say that I am a player of games, having said that I don't spend much time in front of consoles. What I am into is MMOs, I know they are completely addictive, and can take your life away (literally), but I have had great fun on them when I do have time to play them.

The types of MMOs I like are mainly of the oriental type, with cute graphics, mostly made in Korea or Japan. I like big swords , and stylish characters... think more like Final Fantasy and less like World of Warcraft. I think PCs are the best gaming experience available, because your specs. will always be up to date, if you can afford the luxury (Graphics are way better than any console... not to mention controls and international compatibility).

GTA downloadable content. Is that for GTA IV? Also, will it be available for PC later on down the road, and what exactly do you get with it? Sometimes the DLC is good, sometimes not so much. There was some good DLC for Oblivion(I both the Knights of Nine box which had that and all the other DLC in it for $29.99), but I haven't bought any for Fallout 3 yet.

Bioware makes great RPGs, so that is why I am so hopeful that DA:O will be so good.

Final Fantasy is a MMO now, isn't it? I am pretty sure(but not certain) that FF 10 was multiplayer.

There are a lot of cool looking MMOs out there, but I prefer single player games myself. That being said, if I were ever to play a MMO I would try World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, LOTR Online, and Conan.;)

rockabilly 11-01-2009 11:24 AM

Final Fantasy 11 was the MMO.

The dlc is for GTA4 ... and it's more than just dlc. It's 2 complete gaming experiences w/ new lead characters and missions. First up...
1. The Lost and the Damned - You're a member of a motorcycle gang ... kinda like the show "Sons of Anarchy"
2. The Ballad of Gay Tony - I don't know much about this yet ... but it does bring back the parachute from GTA-San Andreas , so now you can base jump and also has a tank class vehicle.

Idk if it's gonna be on pc or not.

rockabilly 11-01-2009 11:28 AM

And the Fallout 3 dlc is worth picking up. It fixes the game ... by that i mean it raises the level cap , has new perks , new quests in new areas , armour , weapons , enemies , and opens up the wasteland for exploratpion after finishing the main quest. :D

shadows 11-01-2009 05:00 PM

I hope they release the GTA IV goodies for the PC(as it would mean more money in their pockets!;)). However, I still have to pick up GTA IV.:D

I'll pick up the Fallout 3 dlc later. Thanks for the tip.:)

I've had the following systems:

NES
Super NES
Nintendo 64
Nintendo GameCube
Nintendo Wii

If you can't tell, I've been a big Nintendo fan for most of my life. I grew up with Nintendo characters, and I continue to find the characters from Nintendo games to be the most addictive. I'm looking forward to the new Super Mario Bros. coming out for the Wii in mid-November.

I've been a gamer since the days of the Atari 2600. I don't game like I once did - in high school you virtually had to pry me away from my Super NES - but I still follow the industry and keep up with things. Retro gaming is really my thing.

DSL 11-08-2009 05:57 PM

My very first computer was the atari XE and had the old 5/4" floppy drives
and took forever to load
my first computer game was F-15 strike eagle i loved it.

now i got the HP power house computer with duel CPU
and now even this pc is obsolete and as i speak its getting older
by the minute.

shadows 11-09-2009 06:46 AM

I really, REALLY hate bugs in games, especially bugs that make it so you cannot finish the game.

I was playing Pool Of Radiance 2: Ruins of Myth Drannor and I was almost finished. I was in the Elvish Catacombs: The Prisons level and went to a room that housed the Dreadsword Daemonic(a weapon that would have been very good for my party). Alas, the first time I got there I was ambushed by undead and decided to reload. I reloaded the game and the second I went to that area the game made a weird sound and a 'engine.exe has found an error' and I had to click on the 'OK' option in the window that popped up. It then booted me to the desktop! I tried reloading the last save game(it crashed at the same spot) and even a couple of older ones(same thing) to no avail.

So, either all my saves are corrupted(for a game that is no longer supported as it is a 2001/2002 game that did not sell very well) or the engine.exe file got pooched somehow. I am thinking of copying the save files and moving them to a different folder and then reinstalling the game, but I am not sure if that will even work.

I am really cheesed off about this because I was almost done the freaking game and had spent a fair amount of time on it(enough time that I will NOT be starting over). I.....hate......bugs!:censored:

I am going to install Baldur's Gate and play it now instead. I know it is a lot more stable as I played it a few years back(but didn't finish it). I am going to play it, Tales of the Sword Coast, Shadows of Ahm, and Throne of Bhaal. Good times to be had!:)

rockabilly 11-09-2009 05:24 PM

Shadows , Have you played KotOR? It's great and so is Jade Empire , both done by Bioware.

Hello Rocka(is it okay to call you that for short?).:)

I have not played them yet, but I do own them both. If an Adventure or RPG game comes out I try to buy them even if I don't play them right away, as they are not easy to find once the stores no longer sells them(and unlike console games, EB Games no longer sells used PC games due to piracy and the fact that the games will usually have activation codes now. I really freaking hate what piracy has caused for PC gaming. Stupid DRM for one!).

I have the Jade Empire:Special Edition, which I think adds some more content to the vanilla game.

I also picked up Fable: The Lost Chapters the other day($20. not bad!), but I don't have the strategy guide for it. That is another thing that I like to purchase, as there are sometimes hidden gems/easter eggs that I might not find if I don't have the book. Also, I like to complete the games if I can(as I have so many games to play, and so little time) and having the maps that are given in the books make the game a little easier to find my way around.

Do you use strategy guides as well, or do you prefer to go it solo?

rockabilly 11-09-2009 09:02 PM

Yeah it's cool , call me Rocka. I like to work my way through a game w/o a guide , it adds to the playtime. But if i get stuck sometimes i'll get the guide to get past the trouble spot. Jade Empire sp. ed. gives you an extra character to play as ... an awesome monk character. I have the sp. edition for X-Box and it's a great rpg. You should get Mass Effect if you don't have it yet.

LOL! I have Mass Effect as well(and Mass Effect 2: CE on pre-order). I have not started it yet, but it looks like a great game(Bioware make some pretty sweet games).

One thing that irked me about Mass Effect is that they made a CE for the XBox 360 and, even though they had promised one, decided to not make one for the PC. I heard some of the menu actions you could do screamed "CONSOLE PORT!!!", but I have not seen for myself yet. Also, I heard the inventory system for ME was a nightmare. Is that true?

PS. I don't suppose you have a Fable strategy guide for sale, do you? ;) LOL!

rockabilly 11-09-2009 10:51 PM

The inventory system sucked , it was hard to keep up w/ what equipment was good and what you could sell off.

Fable is not that hard , but it is fun.

To be honest, I will even buy strategy guides to games that are easy to play/figure out. I enjoy reading them as sometimes they will have backstory in them amongst other things. The Utima ones bring this to mind.

How many hours of play would you say ME has? I still have to download the patch from Bioware. Does 'Bring Down The Sky' get downloaded with the patch or would I have to purchase that seperately? I know that there is DLC for Dragon Age that I would like to get, but I will wait for it to come on CD(as it is wont to do anymore). Watcher's Keep I think it is called. I prefer having a hard copy of something(in case my drive gets pooched) rather than just a downloaded copy of it.

rockabilly 11-10-2009 01:14 PM

If you just burn through the story quest , you can beat ME in about 9hrs to 12hrs. But i'm a completist and spent weeks going after every hidden item and side quest.

Same here. Sometimes the side quests are more fun than the main quest, and I also don't want to miss any hidden information/backstory/items that can be gleaned from sidequests.

Out of curiosity, how many games do you own? Do you still keep the game after you complete it, or do you trade it in?

Myself, I keep the games, and I would even if there were still trade-ins for PC games. I find that I sometimes like to play a game more than once. For example, I am playing Baldur's Gate again(although I never did complete it the first time around.;)

Baldur's Gate, here I come!;)

rockabilly 11-22-2009 11:12 AM

Call of Duty - Medieval Warfare! You play one of the Templar Knights during the Crusades and battle your way through the Holy Land.

Or they could just do Modern Warfare 3 w/ a longer single player campaign and new multiplayer types/maps.

For gaming purpose PS3 is good and is the cheapest Blueray player in the market, but the 360 live has a big advantage on the PS3 online network, my self I go for a PC, as you can get everything from the Atari to PS and xbox emulators not only that but if you have a decent g-card and mother board plus processor u be laughing as nothing compares to the gaming experience and online experience, for those with PS3 you can actually install a emulator for the PSx and PS2 no need for chip but be ware as u need to know wat u doing as u need to upload it to the hard drive and insert some cracks and patches.

has the same sounds and the guns of the weapons that was in those movies
the same voices also. you can even play the role of the alien too killing
humans its like 2 games in one you can also play predator
as well.
if you guys like shooting up aliens this game is recommend
the aliens are just like the ones in the movie i like useing the

There is a game coming out that looks so good that it makes me almost want to buy a PS 3. The name of the game is called Heavy Rain. It looks phenominal!:cool:

rockabilly 12-15-2009 11:43 AM

Heavy Rain looks cool. The interesting thing is that your playable character can die and you'd continue on w/ a new one w/ a different perspective and story outcome.

You will play as multiple characters on the trail of a serial killer dubbed the "origami killer".

Gameplay looks to be similiar to Shenmue , it even has a version of quick time events. It's done by the team that did "Indigo Prophecy".

Indigo Prophecy was on the PC! Does that mean that Heavy Rain has a chance as well?:)

If you want an in-depth article & interview(with lots of pics) about Heavy Rain, try to pick up Games magazine #87. It should still be on the rack at various stores(I picked mine up at a variety store). It is a good read, and there are a LOT of games mentioned in there. Besides PC Gamer, this is a magazine I will be picking up from now on.

rockabilly 12-15-2009 02:58 PM

A PC release looks doubtful , Heavy Rain is being touted as a PS3 exclusive .... at least for the forseeable future.

But w/ the high cost of game development you would think companies would want their games on multiple platforms.

Same w/ games , alot of cool ones are download only and when it comes to games and movies i like to have a physical copy to proudly display among my collection.

And with games, it is nice having the tangible aspects to it. The game disc, the manual, the map. All that adds to the total package in my opinion. Downloading a game(legally, of course) is just not the same. It ends up being just a bunch of files. Meh.

True , And alot of games have beautiful artwork on their covers.

I agree. Some of the cheaper games you can buy sometimes have crappy artwork, but I loved the ones for the Doom games. The majority of fantasy/RPG games have awesome covers as well.:)

rockabilly 12-17-2009 02:47 PM

Sometimes the box art was terrible , Mega Man on the NES is a perfect example.

Great game but the box art was beyond bad. Bioshocks art was beautiful .... that entire game was beautiful.

Bioshock was the closest I have ever been to playing an actual work of art. A truly breathtaking game.

noble1337 12-19-2009 09:03 PM

right now im playing COD modern warfare 2.....and also Blazblue. if you know what that is haha. using a ps3....also waiting for bayonetta to come out. (spelling?)

twistedone 12-24-2009 06:47 AM

Playing Modern Warfare 2, and WOW. Think First Modern Warfare was more fun.

rockabilly 12-24-2009 04:38 PM

Modern Warfare 2 only has a 6hr single player campaign , but most people bought it for the multiplayer.

Playing through Mass Effect again in anticipation of pt 2.

And of course waiting for Bioshock 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.

Only six hours? Since I only play single-player games, that would not be a good value for my money.:(

twistedone 12-25-2009 05:20 AM

I too am a die hard single player fan. For me at least, I don't think I got a bad value with Modern Warfare 2.

What did irritate me with Modern Warfare 2, is that your required to download "Steam" in order to play it.....even in single player mode. My face was redder in anger than some of the blood you see while playing the game.

Yup 6hrs ... at $60 thats $10 an hour. :(

Most games are focusing on multiplayer now , but i still prefer good story driven gameplay.

First I have to mention that I'm still a wrestling fan. Not watching the WWE product these days cause mainly it's a lot childish and that PG rating ruined many things. I watch TNA since 2006, now I'm waiting the one night only return (for now) of Monday Night Wars , TNA head to head with the WWS (as I call it, S stands for shit, WW - World Worst) and I'm excited. Hogan back to the buissiness but wait I'm in a topic about video games, lol.

I bought a PS2 back in the 2004-2005 mainly for the wrestling games but as above said, it is addictive and I started playing more and more games. Now I have about 100-200 games for the PS2, another console I have is PSP and I'm playing rarely on it, mainly on the PS2 when bored. I use the PSP for music, videos, wi-fi etc.

One thing about Steam is that if it ever went belly-up, they(the company in charge of it. I cannot recall their name at the moment.) would make it so all the games would no longer require Steam to either play or install. Too many companies have gone bankrupt and the owners of the game(s) are SOL because of either no new patches being released for a game with a buggy release(Temple of Elemental Evil is a good example) or no tech support for any issues that may arise.

I'm not sure where you're from, but you may want to check out the next Raw or two. Bret Hart is going to be the guest host for a Raw, and that should be interesting. I never would have thought that this would happen especially after Owen Hart passing away a few years ago. I guess it's true what they say. Time heals all(or at least most) wounds.;)

Yeah I knew that weeks agobefore they announce it. There are also rumors that Scott Hall and X-Pac would be at the live iMPACT. And the talks with RVD and Flair to join TNA continues. Anyway, mate, maybe we should do a topic about wrestling here, because this is still a topic for video games.:respect:

Sounds good!:respect:

With regards to wrestling video games, did you ever play that WWE game on the N64(the name eludes me at the moment)? It was great! I liked playing as Razor Ramone...probably because his was one of the few finishers that I could do!

For N64 I remember No Mercy, Wrestlemania 2000, War Zone, Attitude as of WWF games. No Mercy is the one that much popular but I also like the WCW game WCW/nWo Revenge. First because of the roster and second the controls were like No Mercy.

I believe it was WCW/NWO Revenge then. I recall using Sting's "call" that got the crowd fired up. And Randy "Macho Man" Savage. Maybe it wasn't Razor Ramone, but Scott Hall. Either way, it was played quite a bit. Good game.

Check out sites like Game Banshee, ones that have game walkthroughs on them. I got some Baldur's Gate tips from Game Banshee, so I am sure you'll find what you are looking for. Plus, they are good for either getting patches when they come out, or for letting you know what bugs there are and potential ways around them(if a patch hasn't been released yet). Gamespot or ign may be good ones as well.

DSL 12-29-2009 05:16 PM

Thanks i think there is a time stamp on that game the training corse that is.
a friend of mine at work told me his son said you need to make it outta there
in 30 seconds or less and hit every target as fast as you can.
it all most looks like one of those seal team games right down to the night vision glasses.

I hope that you're able to get past that area. I hate games where you get stuck unless you possess god-like reflexes. Would there be a cheat code that would help you if you end up continually stuck? Better to cheat than toss the game away in disgust I say.

rockabilly 12-30-2009 06:47 PM

I hate time trials and escort missions.

Especially when the AI is dumb as (expletive deleted) yeah just stand there while getting shot , or run around in circles ... TAKE COVER FOOL!!!

DSL 12-30-2009 07:47 PM

Well i manage to shoot down a enemy helicopter gunship! in the server mode
i used a 50 cal. belt machine gun to take it out. plus 6 on the ground
with my sniper rifle before an enemy tank fired thru a window with his 50
and took me out the graphics in this game are very realistic.

The AI can be sooooo frustrating sometimes, especially in Real-Time Strategy games.

And i enjoy playing stealthy. I literally hide in the shadows and watch enemy patterns then grab the guards , knock them out and hide them in the shadows that i grabbed them from.

I really like the Splinter Cell and Metal Gear games. The Tenchu ninja games used to be very good but now ... meh.

I love the Chinese stealth suit that was in the Fallout 3 game of the year edition. All my stats are at 100 except barter and unarmed ... they are at 75 .

Sounds like you would enjoy the Thief series as well as Assassin's Creed(number 2 should be out soon, if not already).:)

rockabilly 12-31-2009 12:36 PM

I've played Assassins Creed and pt 2 is out now.

I loved Thief-Deadly Shadows on original X-Box , and they were supposed to remake the original Thief but set it in modern times. I think that project got cancelled but rumor is a new Thief game is being worked on ... Bethesda wanted to get the rights to the series.

I heard that rumor as well. I think there may have been mention of it in one of the recent computer magazines, so it may be a multi-platform game.

rockabilly 01-01-2010 05:02 PM

I hope so ... Just imagine if Bethesda got the Thief franchise.

They would have Fallout , Elder Scrolls and then Thief! That would be quite a catalog of games to work with. But Bethesda is a great studio and they put alot of work in all their games.

Now i just need them to announce a new Deus Ex game and i'll be in heaven.

Again, I heard a rumor in one of my recent PC Gamer magazines that it was supposed to be in development in the near future.

jdawg 01-04-2010 12:10 PM

I bought Borderlands and I've never been more disappointed in a game. It is so fucking repetitive and boring. I paid 64 bucks for such shit and haven't gotten a response to any of my craigslist ads to buy the game.

The biggest lowpoint is the damn respawning enemies. This is what makes a game repetitive because once you clear out 10 enemies, once you leave and come back you must clear out the same enemies. This gets very boring fast.

The other lowpoint is the easy boss battles. I fucked up on sledge and died multiple times before realizing that of you just run circles around him, he dies quickly. That's how every boss battle is. Skagzilla was probably the easiest big thing I've ever beaten in a game. Just jump when he's about to land. Its too easy.

Its gotten mildly better as you go along, but its still just an average game at best. Sorry for the rant.

rockabilly 01-04-2010 01:58 PM

Have you played through it a second time after beating it?

You keep your weapons and level from the start and can then max out your weapons and character. Then if you go for a third playthrough all the enemies are harder but drop better loot.

I'm anticipating the next Fallout game.

shadows 01-04-2010 04:19 PM

Bioshock 2 is now going to have a Collector's Edition as well as the regular version.

Needless to say, I changed my pre-order to the CE.

rockabilly 01-04-2010 05:03 PM

It's just 2 extra multiplayer character classes and an art book right?

If it was as cool as the first collectors edition or Fallout 3's collectors edition then i'd get it ... if not then the standard edition is fine.

It sure as heck better be more than just that, as the cost is $40 more than the standard edition!:censored:

I may have to look into this, as I am not paying that much for just an art book(I don't play multiplayer, so the extra character classes are useless to me). Gimme stuff I can hold in my hands, not useless things like extra characters or an extra item(such as you would find from Dragon Age, Two Worlds, Hellgate:London, etc.)

Rocka, I just checked out Amazon.ca and it looks like there are a few more extras than that.

It comes with:

-Vinyl 180g LP with Bioshock orchestral score
-Audio CD with Bioshock 2 orchestral score
-Three vintage Rapture advertisement posters(rolled)
-Bioshock 2 Artbook, 164 pages and hardcover

Here is a picture:

Attachment 146324

I'm a sucker for soundtracks for the games, and this one has one for both Bioshock 1 and 2. If these are the goodies it comes with, I will still get the CE.:)

rockabilly 01-05-2010 03:51 AM

That's cool , but i would have loved a "Big Sister" figure to go w/ the "Big Daddy" from the first game.

I think because they had so many problems with the Big Daddy figurines from the Bioshock 1 CE, they didn't want to risk it happening again. A lot of the figurines ended up with their arms being broken off during shipping and they had to return them. It probably cost them a lot of extra money because of this.
