It appears that this is the end result of the (dirty) hit from Ovechkin. The article is from tsn.ca.
REPORT: BLACKHAWKS' CAMPBELL OUT FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON While Alex Ovechkin may well escape punishment for his latest marginal hit, the victim of the check may be done for the season. ESPN.com is reporting that Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brian Campbell may miss the remainder of the season due to a broken clavicle and ribs suffered when he was driven into the boards from behind by the Washington Capitals' superstar on Sunday. Campbell remained on the ice for several minutes before being helped to the dressing room by trainers. Ovechkin received a five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct on the play. While Blackhawks' head coach Joel Quenville did not confirm that Campbell's season was over, he did expect to be without his blueliner for an extended period of time. "[Campbell] is going to be out for a bit," Quenville said following the game. "It was a tough hit, a dangerous hit." Despite this being Ovechkin's third game misconduct this season, he will not be suspended because the penalties were not assessed for the same infraction. His last game misconduct was handed out for a knee-on-knee hit on Tim Gleason of the Carolina Hurricanes. Also, he has been cleared for his last game misconduct for boarding because it was assessed more than 41 games ago. Ovechkin defended his actions by stating he did not feel it was a dirty hit. "It was not a hard hit," Ovechkin said. "I just wanted to push him. It's just a moment in the game. I don't think it has to be five minutes or something like that. I just felt bad." Wow! Ovechkin didn't feel it was a dirty hit! Big surprise. I wonder how badly he has to hurt someone before he actually admits that he has been a dirty player before. |
I can't stand Ovechkin. I would like to see him suspended for the next decade.

I hear the Philadelphia Flyers are thinking of trying to trade for him just so they can resurrect the Broad Street Bullies. (Sorry, Jen.) |
Damn Bruins! Tim Thomas gives up 3 goals in the first period, continuing the crappy play that makes me wonder whether being picked for the U.S. Olympic Team somehow destroyed his season. But at least Bergeron is back, and scored late. That's a nice sign ... for the 2010-2011 season, I fear.

Ovechkin got a total of 2 games for his hit. Lappierre gets 4 for a similar hit, and Ovechkin only gets 2? Nice job of parity, Colon Campbell(I call him that because his decisions are always full of SHIT!:censored:)!

Devils 3-2 Bruins

At least Brodeur had a decent game: 34 saves and an assist.:) |
Well my Maine Black Bears won in overtime in their third game of the first round of the playoffs against U. Mass Lowell. Next up is Boston University on the road.

Yay! Toronto won again! They beat Ottawa 4-1(boy, the Senators are playing quite poorly right now)!
Boston won!:) Montreal won!:) Toronto won!:) Philadelphia lost.:((but they came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie it at 3, so they were able to at least get a point). San Jose got spanked 8-2 by Dallas. The goaltending has been pretty weak the past few games for the Sharks. Nabokov had a shaky Olympics, so maybe that is still on his mind? If he doesn't shake his funk, the Sharks will have a hard time in the playoffs. |

I am getting sick and tired of seeing these dirty hits occuring! Something needs to be done. Article from tsn.ca. SEABROOK KNOCKED OUT BY CHARGE FROM DUCKS' WISNIEWSKI The NHL's discipline practices have been under the microscope in recent weeks, and another ugly incident has taken place that is likely to test the system further. In Wednesday's Blackhawks-Ducks game in Anaheim, Chicago's Brent Seabrook caught Anaheim's Corey Perry with a hit near the end boards that knocked Perry down. Just a few seconds later, Anaheim's James Wisniewski laid a crushing hit on Seabrook that knocked the Chicago defenceman out of the game. Starting from the faceoff circle, Wisniewski sped at Seabrook and launched himself off the ice and into the defenceman at the end boards. Wisniewski was assessed a minor charging penalty on the play, while Seabrook appeared dazed on his feet before collapsing to the ice. Seabrook was facing Wisniewski with his back to the end boards, but was looking down at the puck that was near him and likely did not see the hit coming until the very last moment. Chicago's Duncan Keith immediately fought Wisniewski, with both players drawing five-minute majors. How the hell the refs only called a minor for that is beyond me! |
I'm surprised that dauls made a drive-by post here and didn't mention anything about the Devils smoking the Penguins 5-2.;):p

Anyway completing a 6-0 season sweep of the Penguins (cumulative score of 22-5), and pinching the #2 spot in the East surely said it all. And the 5 Devils goals came from only 19 shots.:) |

1) If either of those guys in the picture plays for Team Canada, I think 2010 will be the last Olympic Gold medal for Canada for a long time. 2) Don't they seem a bit scrawny to you? I'm imaging them on the ice with Ovechkin. He comes at them at full speed, there is a body slam, and they literally break in half. |

Viz. the recent discussions about hard hits on the ice, the headline in today's Boston Globe sports section reads, "Bruins may stir something up for Cooke."
Speculation is that when the Bruins meet the Penguins tonight, they may take action against Matt Cooke. "Tonight ... the Bruins will have a chance to do something the NHL did not. They can hold Penguins left wing Matt Cooke accountable for the damage he inflicted upon Marc Savard, still left dizzy by the blow to the head he took 11 days ago." 11 days! Cooke blind-sided Savard right to the head in the March 7 game in Pittsburgh, and the NHL did nothing because the hit was "legal" according to the 2009-2010 rule book. It prompted general managers throughout the league to propose a rule change to make such hints something for which a player can be penalized. The Bruins GM believes "that had the rule been in place when Cooke launched himself into Savard, the Pittsburgh winger might have been suspended for 10 or more games." So, will Bruins' players pound Cooke legally, or risk penalties and suspensions in the name of retribution. I guess we'll soon find out. |

You know, Colon Campbell could not give out a proper suspension if his life depended on it!:censored:
Eight measly games for that crap? I wonder if he would be so cavalier with handing out suspensions if it was his son that was on the receiving end of a dirty hit(his son plays on the Florida Panthers)? Here is the story from tsn.ca. WISNIEWSKI GIVEN 8 GAME SUSPENSION FOR SEABROOK HIT The National Hockey League has suspended Anaheim Ducks blueliner James Wisniewski eight games for his hit on Chicago Blackhawks' Brent Seabrook. The incident took place during Wednesday's Blackhawks-Ducks game in Anaheim, Seabrook caught Anaheim's Corey Perry with a hit near the end boards that knocked Perry down. Seconds later, Wisniewski laid a crushing hit on Seabrook that knocked the Chicago defenceman out of the game. Starting from the faceoff circle, Wisniewski sped at Seabrook and launched himself off the ice and into the defenceman at the end boards. Wisniewski was assessed a minor charging penalty on the play, while Seabrook appeared dazed on his feet before collapsing to the ice. "Mr. Wisniewski delivered a retaliatory hit to the head of an opponent who never had possession of the puck," explained NHL senior vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell in a statement. "There are certain hits in the game that are tolerable if you got the puck," stated Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville after Wednesday's game. "But if you hit a guy without the puck, you could kill a guy. It's the most dangerous hit in the history of the game. He tried to hurt him. If that's not intent, that's as bad a hit as you can ever have in the game." Wisniewski, a former member of the Blackhawks, showed remorse for his actions but didn't agree with the eight-game penalty. "I am truly sorry that my friend Brent Seabrook was hurt on the play," said Wisniewski in a statement. "I certainly wish him the best. I am, however, very disappointed in the length of the suspension. Eight games is incredibly hard to swallow, especially in comparison to other recent hits that have resulted in lesser punishment." The suspension was not the first for Wisniewski this season. He served two games for a hit on Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes in early November. He was also suspended for one game (crosscheck) in March of 2008. Pathetic. He should have been suspended the rest of the season...at least! |
Devils 1-2 Leafs (shootout)
It would be unsporting of me to visit this thread and fail to acknowledge the Leafs shootout annihilation of the Devils last night.:(
The Devils couldn't even manage a shot on goal in overtime.:frown: Clearly Danis (conceded all 3 penalty shots last night) has a lot to learn from Brodeur about winning a shootout. |

There will be tears of laughter and tears of joy shed tonight, my friends. What kind of tears did you shed?;)
Here are the scores from March 20th's games: 1. Carolina beat Pittsburgh 3-2 in overtime. Damn it, I really wish Carolina would stop winning! I want the Leafs to pass them(in fact, pass as many teams as possible) so the pick they end up giving will not be a #1(sorry Smc, but I have to think about my beloved Leafs first and foremost;)). 2. Dallas beat Ottawa 5-4. Jason Spezza got a hat-trick in this one. Didn't Ottawa win 11 games in a row at one point? I guess the Olympic break was not good for them, as they have been putrid since then. They were in third place in the Conference at one point, but are now in sixth. They are tied in points with Montreal(Montreal would have leapfrogged Ottawa had they beaten Toronto) and only SIX points from being OUT of the playoffs! 3. Toronto beat Montreal 3-2 in the shootout. I am sorry that your Habs had to lose tonight Ila, but I really want the Leafs to finish strong and have the young players build on this for next season. 4. St. Louis beat New Jersey 1-0. I imagine that the tears that dauls are shedding are tears of fury! Zajac seems to have been talking out of his ass when he said they have the top three lines in the entire NHL. Actions speak louder than words, Mr. Zajac, especially when those words are smelly farts(which is what happens when you talk out of your ass;)). New Jersey better wake up, otherwise it will be a short playoffs for them! 5. Atlanta beat Philadelphia 5-2. I wonder how Philly is going to do now that they are in dire straits with regards to their goaltending situation. Their top two goalies are out with injuries, and they are now relying on Boucher. Atlanta got 2 points closer to the playoff picture with the win. 6. Buffalo beat Florida 3-1. It looks like Ryan Miller is back to his old self, and that is a bad thing for the opposing teams! Florida just keeps slider further and further down the standings. They are only 3 points ahead of the Leafs! 7. Washington beat Tampa Bay 3-1. Ovechkin got his 45th goal of the season, but I feel he shouldn't have even been in this game since he should have gotten more than a 2-game suspension. 8. Nashville beat Columbus 1-0. I sense a pattern here. This is the second 1-0 game tonight. 9. Phoenix beat Chicago 5-4 in the shootout. This was Phoenix's 8th win in a row, and they are now only 1 point away from San Jose! One point!! They are also only 2 points back from Chicago, who is the current leader in the Western Conference. Who would have thought they would be where they are now, especially with the turmoil that was happening before the season started. With this great season they are having, I wonder if it has even made a difference with their attendance? 10. Detroit beat Vancouver 4-3 in overtime. Detroit scored in the final second of overtime to claim victory. Luongo cannot be faulted for the loss(the defense can, though) as he made 50 saves! 11. LA beat the Islanders 1-0. See? A pattern! The third 1-0 game of the evening.;) |

'Highlight' of the night was a 1st period fight between Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond and the Blues' Cam Janssen that lasted almost 3 minutes - the longest fight of the season.:p This was Leblond's third fight in the last 4 games. |
Hockey East: kudos to the Maine Black Bears, for whom I rooted, for making it past the hated BU and playing an amazing game against BC last night. While BC ultimately won, 7-6, it was a helluva hockey game.

Kevin Paul Dupont has a column in the sports section of today's Boston Sunday Globe about the terrible hits that have become all too regular in the NHL lately. It's worth a read (apart from the stupid reference to Al Sharpton, which has no place in the discussion):
http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/...ab_on_players/ Late in the piece, former Bruins defensemen Brad Park makes some excellent points about Matt Cooke and Alex Ovechkin that call into question their quality as hockey players overall. This, my friends, is a very good read. |

Got a final score for today!
Boston beat the Rangers 2-1 in afternoon action! They gained two precious points on the Rangers, now they just have to hope that Atlanta loses tonight. Atlanta plays Philadelphia so I hope Philly wins! |
