Default Zombieholics-Anything and Everything Zombies!

I give you the zombie thread!

I don't know about you guys but I am a fan of the shambling undead. I have watched a shit ton of movies(not all of them of course) relating to zombies. My faves are

Dawn of the Dead(original and remake)
Night of the Living Dead(original and 1980's remake with Tony Todd)
Land of the Dead(say what you will but I think it was awesome)
Diary of the Dead(see above comment)
Whatever the name of that British one was where the journalists were running around in the woods.
Shaun of the Dead
Resident Evil: Degeneration

I won't mention the other Resident Evil titles because Paul Anderson fucked those up royally. Seriously. Alice? Nemesis was a creation whose sole purpose was to get physical with Milla Jovovich? The first was okay as it could have explained how the T-Virus got loose but after the first one, it completely went to shit and barely even followed the plot of the games.

I have the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z books from Max Brooks and the graphic novel The Walking Dead. All three are excellent books to read. I read the Star Wars book Death Troopers where the Empire was experimenting with BioWeapons and creates a zombie virus. All in all it was so-so.

And for those who have read World War Z, here is an artists depiction of The Battle of Yonkers! It reeks of sheer awesomeness!

Default The Evil Dead & Evil Dead II

A best Zombie/Deadite movies list has to include both The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II, starring the self-professed B-movie actor Bruce Campbell as Ash. Both films are pure genius, packed with gore and plenty of comedy.

The final part of the trilogy, Army of Darkness, is amusing but not as good as parts 1 & 2.

Earlier this year Sam Raimi confirmed he had started work on a script for Evil Dead 4. He wants to include Bruce Campbell in the film and is likey to reprise the iconic role of Ash.

I don't know if I want to see a new Evil Dead film, it could be a big bucks disaster. However "Part 4" would be better than what's listed on IMDb.com; The Evil Dead (2010), a remake of the Evil Dead II, possibly starring Johnny Knoxville as Ash. It's Bruce Campbell's role, but he'd be too old to play Ash in a remake.

I don't think there is anyone who could fill the shoes of Bruce Campbell. If he lost some weight, the ol' Bruce could pull it off.I just hope that it won't be a special effects oriented movie though. That is how the newest Star Wars crapped out. Too much focus on the graphics.

Has anyone ever played the games, Evil Dead: A Fistfull of Boomstick and Evil Dead: Regeneration? I hope the movie will be something like the games. They are one of the few games I can play over and over again.

Default Ok You zombie fanatics!

Has anyone ever made a zombie movie that is based more on the true zombie types - that is people who are put into the zombie state through the use of drugs? Many years ago I read a book which I think was called "The Serpant and the Rainbow" which was a scholar's investigation into Voodoo and the making of Zombies. If I remember right - zombies were made by using zombie powder which was some kind of poison like extract from frogs? or fish??? Anyway... has anyone seen a movie along these lines that is differant from the old bite ya - poof - your'e a zombie too now.????

Actually they made The Serpent and The Rainbow into a movie. It starred a very young Bill Pullman. The toxins supposedly used to make zombie powder are poison from the pufferfish(in less than lethal amounts of course) and some kind of powder that has the effect of making you very succeptible to suggestion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ser..._Rainbow_(film)

Alot of White Zombie and Rob Zombies music is based after the old pre-Romero version of hypnotized/voodoo zombies. Hell, even the groups name comes from an old B-rated horror film called "White Zombie".

Hold up wait a minute Mr. Postman ..... i noticed you forgot the original Day of the Dead. Forget the Day of the Dead remake , i had hoped it would follow in the footsteps of the Dawn remake .... but nope. It even had Ving Rhames as an Army Officer ... i'd hoped he would've played the twin brother of his " Dawn " character.

I think "I am legend" is also a good movie about "zombies". Not the classical kind of zombies, human-made zombies.

The Walking Dead is a literary masterpiece. I own the entire collection so far, and it is one of my favourite titles to read. Some of the twists are so strong, it feels like a punch to the gut.

Has anyone read Marvel Zombies? The first series was the best of the bunch, but the lastest series was pretty kick-ass too. Seeing a zombie Peter Parker lamenting how he had eaten Aunt May and Mary Jane, but that they were also quite tasty is quite interesting!

There was also a Ash vs Marvel Zombies(I picked it up in Trade Paperback). Highly recommended to any fans of Evil Dead and/or Bruce Campbell. It reads exactly like the movies did. Freaking awesome!!

They were supposed to make The Walking Dead into a movie , and i had hoped for a Marvel Zombies animated dvd ..... but now that Disney owns Marvel that seems unlikely. But now we get Marvel Super Squad a game w/ super deformed Marvel heroes in the magical kingdom!! OH JOY!!! :D

But yeah Marvel Zombies was cool. Maybe they will do movies based on Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead.

There's a reason why I did not include it in my list. IMHO, Day of the Dead was the worst of the Romero films. Remember, that's just me speaking; I'm sure other people like it.

They have the entire collection at B&N for $50. I'm gonna get it for my buddy this Christmas since he is a fellow zombieholic.

Day of the Dead was the bleekest of his films. Fact was the Zombies won and the humans just needed to accept it , and live out the rest of their days in peace. Land of the Dead showed how humanity survived by isolating themselves , but they became worse than the zombies. Day of the Dead suffered from a crappy budget and zombie films were on the way out. Again the " Day " remake sucks and i hope they make a follow-up to the Dawn of the Dead remake.

Default Can't be a collection without the GAMES! :)

I forgot to include the games in my list of zombie memorabilia.

My faves:

Resident Evil(has horrible voice acting but it spawned the series. Who wants a Jill sandwich?)
RE2: City of the Dead
RE3: Nemesis
RE: Code Veronica
RE: Dead Aim(A RE FPS)
RE: Outbreak Files #1 and #2
RE: 4(semi FPS with a new enemy, a parasite known as Las Plagas)
RE: 5
RE: Zero(enemy is leeches with the Progenitor Virus, predecessor to the T-Virus)
Land of the Dead:The Search For Fiddlers Green(kinda lackluster compared to the other big names but very well written and involved if a bit linear)

I haven't played Left for Dead, Dead Rising or Stubbs The Zombie so I can't rate them.

I also forgot to include the Resident Evil titles by S.D. Perry in my list of books. I own them all and they are very well written if you can overlook some of the discrepancies between the books and the games. I am waiting for her to write the RE:4 and RE:5 versions!

Yes! The "Day" remake sucked! Zombies that crawl like spiders? C'mon!

I also hope they follow up on the "Dawn" remake. Did they or did they not get eaten? That is the question that has plagued mankind for centuries...

I love the RE games , They also did " The Umbrella Chronicles " and it's sequel on the Wii , they are rail shooters.

Dead Rising is the closest you will get to a Dawn of the Dead game ... trapped in a mall full of Zombies is cool and lots of random objects as weapons , pt 2 coming soon.

Left 4 Dead and pt 2 are great , if the witch spots you RUN!!!!!

Stubbs the Zombie is funny and great to play , you are the zombie and attack the retro future city of Punchbowl PA. :D

I think that by making the zombies fast it re-invigorated the Zombie genre. With the og zombies it was a numbers game , you could outrun them or just walk around them. But w/ fast zombies you needed to be more aware of your surroundings and ammo. One of the most tense moments in a movie is in 28 Days Later when they have to change their tire and you can hear the infected getting closer and closer. Here's hoping that 28 Months Later wraps up the story , the rage virus made it's way to Paris now what?

The frogs will actually get some protein in their diet. Meat is healthier than snails and moldy cheese.

If you guys like Zombies, here's a new project you can look forward to.

A short film called THE SOLDIER, made in 2007, is being turned into a feature film.
Here's the quick description for it...

A cross between 'Saving Private Ryan' and '28 Days Later'. Set 13 days after the D-day landings, this film explores the horror of the Third Reich's disease testing experiments and the consequences. Made in 46 hours for a few hundred pounds.

If you're curious, here's the link to watch it on YouTube.
It only runs about 10 minutes, and it's fun to see:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuPgdTXxWgI

The movie version is tentatively titled The 4th Reich.
Here is a description for it...

June 1944, after the glorious victory on D-day, the armies of the combined allied forces begin their long push to Berlin with the aim of bringing down Hitler and the despised Nazi regime of the Third Reich.

But buried deep in secret files German Reichstag, is the chilling reality of Hitler's plan to create an eternal living hell, The 4th Reich.

Dr. Joseph Mengele, Hitler's chief scientist, was charged with creating a new super army of invincible soldiers. A force that would never be beaten. His experiments and research at the death camps of Auschwitz, Belsen and Birkenau would create unspeakable evil.

A small brigade of soldiers from 3rd Infantry Division, under the command of the battle hardened Captain Bathurst embark on an ever darkening quest to liberate Europe. Fighting their way through the French countryside, villages and war ravaged towns. Each step discovering progressively strange battles and events until they reach an abandoned research facility where the true horror begins...

And if you're interested, here's the web site for the film as well...

But yeah Marvel Zombies was cool. Maybe they will do movies based on Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead.
Yeah, but Disney sees in dollar signs, so a Marvel Zombies movie(animated of course, as the special effects would bankrupt the studio(s). could be feasible somewhere down the road. Heck, did you actually think that Marvel themselves would create zombie versions of their characters who were significantly less-than-heroic? I never did.

The original Alone In The Dark video game had some wonderful zombie moments in it. If you can find it, and make it run on newer computers, I would highly recommend trying it out(for the PC).

Another game w/ zombie like enemies is " Eternal Darkness " for the Gamecube. Based more on H.P. Lovecraft's work though , it had a great dismemberment game mechanic. Target specific limbs to make the enemies less of a threat , and the game would mess w/ your mind .... you'd be playing and suddenly the screen would go dark or say all your game data was erased. lol
It never sold well but is a great game , a real gem. Get it if you can find a copy.

Video Games?! Don't you mean murder simtlators. Forget all the shooters and GTA and all it's clones. Let me warn you about the most cruel virtual killer ever ..... Mario.

This italian plumber (mafia hitman) has systematically wiped out numerous defenceless turtles and injested halucinagenic mushrooms and destroyed public property. He is a menace and must be stopped , and Link ! who gives a boy a sword and bombs and sends him into the woods? I'll tell you who .... terrorists!

SARCASM - I love games!

Resident Evil 4 was bitchin! My favorite weapon out of them all was the "Red 9" configuration of the Mauser Broomhandle with the holster/buttstock. Too bad it wasn't the Schnellfeuer version!

I went through the whole game with the Broomhandle, the rifle that looked like the M1903 that apparently was chambered in .223, The Chicago Typewriter(Tommy Gun) and the Remington870/Mossberg 500. I did it for the old school feel once I unlocked the Gangster uniform. :D

Cool

The chainsaw guy was bad ass. I used the rifle and blew the heads off of 5 zombies (infected w/ plagas) w/ one shot. It was so polite of them to charge at me in single file , the 6th one grabbed his eye and staggered backwards. I have it for the Wii.

I still hear the mantras of the Los Illuminados.
Beside the Las Plagas all mentioned parasites were real and behave like described in the game.
Did you know that 1/3 of all humans are infected by the parasite "Toxoplasma gondii". It is suspected that it change you to a more risk fully behaviour, give you slower reactions and let you find cats (Pantherinae) more inviting and have less fear of them. Cats are their definitive host, and it's good for the parasite that they eat you.

Dr. Salvador. I hate that bastard; especially in the Mercenaries Mode. The dude is all roided out and has a dual blade chainsaw! Plus, when he charges you he covers so much ground in such little time, you can barely pop a shot off at him!

Morir es Vivir is the mantra. It sounds like they are saying "moldy STD" though...

Yup! I find it scary that people are infected by the parasites and don't even know it. It makes you wonder if it is possible that those parasites can be controlled through soundwaves. Afterall, there is a sound cannon being pioneered by the US Army that is being used for riot control...

Another couple of video games with zombies(of a sort). There was an old C64 game called 'Chiller'(kind of a ripoff of Thriller, just check the load screen and you'll see). It was a tough game!

Also Ghost & Goblins had zombies in it! Or was that just the knight himself since he moved so damned slow?

LOL at Rockabilly's comments earlier in the thread. Mario also caused massive amounts of property damage due to all the shenanigans him and his brother Luigi caused to various sewer systems.

Yes, "to die is to live". But also the monotone:
"Muere, muere, muere..."
"Cogedlo, cogedlo, cogedlo..."
or the more subtle "Cerebros, cerebros, cerebros, cerebros...", a classic if translated.
But don't translate too much of this game.

Dance of the Dead had zombies attacking a prom. And Zombie Strippers .... had strippers.

There was a graphic novel called i beleive " Pieces for Mom " about kids who feed their Zombie mom and take care of her.

Pieces for Mom sounds like it would be quite a surreal read.

Default Stephen King - Cell

I like a bit of Stephen King, but I'm not his "number 1 fan". However I've read about a dozen of his books and finished all but one of them. And I don't give up on books easily, I finished "American Psycho" (Bret Easton Ellis), and after enduring that I thought I'd be able to finish anything.

The offending book is "Cell" - a signal 'The Pulse' is sent to the cell phones of America turning the owners into... zombies.

I made it half way through before giving up. I'm surprised I stayed with it that long. Has anyone finished "Cell"?

A screenplay has been written by Stephen King, IMDb.com has a brief entry for a 2011 film. Some of his good books have flunked on screen, a turkey will only breed a turkey. If it gets made, this is one zombie movie I'll avoid.

I have it in my collection. I'd like more CG Resident Evil movies , maybe an adaptation of RE4.

When he writes two different books about killer cars, then you know he has hit some burnout(Christine and I cannot recall the name of the second book).

I finished Cell. Not one of his better ones. The ending was...well it ended the book. Meh.

I read Bag of Bones before that. Now THAT is a good read. There was a spot in the book where a figure rushes out at the main character from a cabin, and just after reading that(I was reading it in my bedroom) I saw something move from the corner of my eye! I freaking jumped! It was my curtain, blowing from the breeze of the fan I had on. Whew! I recommend that book, though.

Question

When are they gonna make his Dark Tower series into a movie?

That would be awesome! Live action preferably or bleeding edge CG.
