Default Terminology ..

I was just wondering which (if indeed any) terminology used on Transgendered sites is considered to be derogatory, offensive to or unwelcome by Transgendered women ?

I was thinking of terms like "Ladyboy", "Shemale", "Tranny" etc ..

I have my own views on the subject but would be interested in hearing what other people think ..

I'd guess that the term tranny would be offensive. It sounds deragotry, at least it would to me.

I find "Trans" tends to be accepted.

Question Whats in a name?

I was thinking of doing a thread on this very subject myself because it can be confusing knowing whether a certain word is acceptable or not.

The term Shemale is one i and a lot of guys here use but i think it is not liked by the transgender community very much as it is a word invented by the pornographic industry, but naturally for me it usually coungers up images of beautiful girls with cocks.
Whenever i usually hear the words ladyboy or tranny its usually used as derogatory term, so im a bit uncoftable using them.
Then what about the words - tgirl or tgurl, transsexual, shecock, tranny cock.
Personally i think alot of these words are acceptable if used in a positive way.
But we need the girls (should i be using that word?) views on this subject.

There are several posts on this scattered throughout the site. I don't recall if there is a thread on this subject. If I find a thread I'll post the link here.

I'd tend to agree pretty much with tlover ....

I'm uncomfortable with "Ladyboy" or "Shemale" as I also associate these terms with the porn industry ..

On the other hand, I've often heard T-Girls refer to one another as "Trannies" .. in the same way as I've heard Male Homosexuals refer to each other as "Queens", "Queers" or even "Poofs" ...

In my experience "T-Girl" seems fairly acceptable .. as does "Trans Woman or Women" ..

I prefer the term transexual. I heard Khloe Hart describe herself as a transexual with her low sexy voice and that did it.

Good observations here. Now, nothing is going to be 100% true from gal to gal. I know one T-girl who loves to be called "shemale" - she says it expresses how she feels in this stage of her life. I know another who gets livid when she reads "gurl" applied to trans*women because she feels that it creates a division between us and natal women where none should exist.

If you need to make a distinction then "trans" or "TG" or T-girl" should be accepted. "Shemale" is a problem because it was created by men in porn as a "clever" way to sell their products. Ladyboy is a problem because it is a (poor) translation of a Thai word used to indicate a third gender within Thai society. I'm not Thai, so that would not be appropriate. It was also hijacked by porn and the sex tourist industry.

I'm not fond of most words applied to women whith bodies like mine. I do like trannie and transey, in much the same way that Orion pointed out with gay guys and "queen".

When it's all said and done, for me, intent is way more important that words. If some guy who is genuinely interested adresses me as a "shemale" I deal with it - and politely correct him. On the other hand, some guy looking to start something calls me a "Transsexual" - we have problems and he's getting an ass-beating. The intent again being more important than words.

But, if anyone actually intends to meet a trans*woman ad not pay for her company, then the LEAST you can do is refrain from using words you got off a porn site. A good rule of thumb to use in any situation where you are trying to make a decent impression - not just trannies.

For me it doesn't matter what words but the manner and intent of the words that are spoken.
