I won't list my favourite James Bond movies as I liked most of them. I will say though that my favourite James Bond actor is Roger Moore. The character seems to have been written just for him. All others just never seemed to be a true James Bond (and this includes Sean Connery).

Best James Bond Movies
Each actor, whether it be Sean Connery, Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig brings something different to the character. I am a "child of the 50's/60's", so I am partial to the bond films before "Casino Royale in 2006. A couple of months ago the "Movie Network" here ran all of the Bond films from 1963 to 2002. I watched all of them..some for the upteenth time. I liked all of them.
My least favorite "007's" are Lazenby, Dalton and Craig. As for the movies...."Casino Royale" (2006) is my least favorite. Besides Connery, Moore and Brosnan as "007", My other favorite spies are Dean Martin as Matt Helm (so bad it's funny), James Coburn as Derek Flint and Michael Caine as Harry Palmer. On TV my faves are Robert Vaughn and David MacCullum in The Man From UNCLE, Patrick McGoohan in Danger Man, Secret Agent, The Prisoner and who can forget Don Addams in Get Smart!

My top Bond flicks
I like the Sean Connery Bonds the best. His Bond was suave, but also had a hard edge to him. (remember when he shoots that badguy with a spear gun? ) Perfect for the times. I love the intros too, kick ass music with fantastic art/film images as they roll credits.
The best from my point of view... "From Russia With Love" "Goldfinger" "Thunderball" "You Only Live Twice" "Diamonds Are Forever" "Goldeneye" Roger Moore was just a little too dapper, and the plots got a little silly at times. I did like "The Spy Who Loved Me", (Barbara Bach in her prime wearing a Russian uniform...suprisingly hot!) Pierce Brosnan was good, but I like him better in other roles. I like Daniel Craig too, he's a little like the old Connery version but updated. But I always gravitate back to the originals. They are classic. As per tv, don't get me started. I love "Get Smart" because of Barbara Feldon! |

Here's my top 5 and the reasons I picked them...
1) Goldfinger -- the all-time greatest Bond. After the first two outings (Dr. No and From Russia with Love) this was the one where everything clicked into place and the tone was set for the entire series. 2) You Only Live Twice -- Blofeld! Giant rocket base in a volcano! Another template for future films created! The big villainous base! 3) Goldeneye -- Let's face it: the second everyone saw Pierce Brosnan, everyone just knew he was born to be James Bond. And when his Remington Steele TV contract didn't allow him to step into the role as planned, it only made the pent-up desire to see him in the role even greater -- hence the reason Goldeneye was later such a huge box office smash since everyone finally got what they had been wishing for all along. For once, movie audiences around the world got EXACTLY the actor they wanted to see in the role. 4) The Living Daylights -- Timothy Dalton made a great splash as a younger and more vibrant Bond, which was almost shocking to see onscreen since everyone was sooooo used to Roger Moore, who had clearly gotten too old to continue on any longer (which was painfully obvious in A View To A Kill). Seeing Dalton in the opening sequence of this movie made you slap your head and realize "I forgot what it was like to see Bond throwing a punch where it actually LOOKED like he could throw a punch that would hurt a guy!" Too bad for Dalton that MGM went bankrupt as they were filming LICENSE TO KILL, his second outing, which effectively ended his run in the role prematurely. 5) Casino Royale -- repeat what I said before about having a vigorous guy in the role who actually seemed bad ass enough that his punches would hurt, and then magnify it by 100. I wasn't sure about Daniel Craig at first, but he's done an incredible job making the role all his own. And obviously audiences agree since this film broke every Bond box office record there was. Honorable mentions go to Live and Let Die for having the rockingest Bond theme song ever, and for Roger Moore taking over the role while HE was young and fit...and to On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which would have been the greatest Connery movie of all given the movie's storyline and emotional payoff, if only he had stuck around. While Lazenby was "okay" in it as a replacement Bond, I always felt he was just that -- merely "okay." Of all the Bonds, in my opinion, he was the weakest. |

Many of the films are on par with one another in my opinion, so I hate to single out favorites. But among the Bonds, Roger Moore is my favorite, Ila essentially took my thoughts verbatim and put them into text. The role was written for him.
I can't say that I really enjoyed the most recent Quantum of Solace-- it made too much reference to Casino Royale, and as such, didn't feel like a complete film in its own right. |

All the Bond movies have their strengths--lots of action and great scenery.
Relevant to this board though Roger Moore in For Your Eyes Only had a unique for the time Bond Girl in Caroline Cossey: In order: One of her modeling Pictures, In the oval, without the oval on a promotional picture for the movie, Her Playboy picture, and last her scene in "For Your Eyes Only." |

The more I watch and reflect, the less I like the Daniel Craig films. They just feel darker and less cohesive.

Darker? C'mon,Casino Royale was not dark at all.The next two films did have some dark moments but Craig fits perfectly for the role I think.

Yes! Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatop! Death by thighs… What a way to go! She's also absolutely gorgeous. How could I have left her off my list? Major oversight…

Yes, they were both in that one. Maybe the best Brosnan film? Carlyle was a great villain, anyway
