Default Can clothing be defined as "crossdresser clothes?"

I was shopping today with the wife and sister-in-law today. While at Forever 21, the SiL made an off-hand comment that has stuck with me. In seeing a section of tops and skirts, she commented that they look like "crossdresser clothes." She then clarified when I gave her a "huh?" look that she meant that what she was seeing was the type of stuff she expended a crossdresser to wear.

From this I've garnered 2 things:
1) She was kind of right - because I saw a bunch of stuff in that section I thought were cute.

2) Are there certain styles crossdressers gravitate to?

I ask just one thing in the responses. Don't waste your time flaming the SiL in this situation. It's not like she's ever going to read this, so lecturing on how wrong her comment was is just wasting everyone's time

Really? None of my fellow CDs care to weigh in on this?

I suppose quite a lot of people would go for the stuff that they find sexy when they see it being worn by other people. So I guess a good number may well go for stuff that some people might consider tarty.

But it's a bit hard to generalize really - you could find CDs out there into just about any style of clothing going.

The first thing that came to my mind are size 10, 11, 12, etc shoes. Because not many women wear those plus sizes in shoes, but by default, a lot of transgendered individuals need the larger sizes.

For me, it depends on the situation. For the bedroom, I go for a slutty look. For just going out, I'm comfortable in t-shirt and jeans, although skirts and stockings are awesome as well. And as always, heels are a must.

In my case I always gravitate towards the overtly feminine, largely because I want to feel like a girl. Then again, much of my crossdressing is connected to my bisexuality. When I'm in a "gay" mood, I'm only interested in being in the traditionally female role.

Here we go again.

The cross dresser does it to look sexy/fem'.
The transexual is content just to pass.
So, any of you out there in sweatshirt and jeans, welcome to my world.
Now if you're in the bedroom, then satin / nylon rules.
Now gurls, we don't need a demo'.

Back when I did crossdressing I mainly went for "middle of the road" clothes that can be worn by either man or woman, so I could blend in wherever I went. But it was the make-up that defined me as crossdresser.

That's a great point. I had not thought of it that way.

How often do you see a middle-aged woman walking up the street in fishnet hose?

Animal prints, anything shiny/metallic, super-short skirts and dresses, stilettos, etc. Add fake eyelashes and blue eye shadow - AKA 1970s teenage girl look. Anything for the Paris streetwalker look.

At least that's me and those like me.

If someone looks like a CD then they must not actually look like a woman. The things that are the most CD-ish are:

- clothes that look like they were from Goodwill
- outfits that just don't go together
- attempts at looking skanky that are not remotely attractive
- an obvious lack of understandinig of what is age-apppropriate
- an obvious lack of understanding of what looks good on your body type

But all of those things apply to all kinds of women. When I think of the average middle-aged fetishistic CD, I'm thinking of a guy shopping at Goodwill for a hooker outfit that ends up looking more like a drag queen with no fashion sense, and I think that's the stereotype the average woman has when she thinks of CDs. But the mental image usually includes a bad walk and bad makeup and a bad wig. If the clothes themselves scream "crossdresser" at everyone they must be pretty terrible.

I wear hoodies in the winter sometimes, but I want to look attractive like anybody else. Sexy/fem is a good thing as long as it's not skanky/pathetic.

A lot of TG people's biggest concern is passing. Being worried about passing means you're worried about being read. Being worried about being read means you can't look someone in the eye and smile if you think they know. Maybe your response to being read is to get depressed, or get a big attitude with the person, but either way it means you're ashamed of being trans. I want to pass 100%, but if I do get read I'm content just to show people that I'm a normal human being and not a crossdressing mental case or a tranny hooker or a transvestite pervert.
