I don't think we can call ladyboys 'shemales,' and vice versa, so we perhaps need more than one term.

Here is my personal take Shemale - Coined in the porn industry and as such reduces me to a fetish and not a real actual person. Ladyboy - You'd have to ask a Thai trans woman. Westerners who apply this to non-Thai's have no clue. Tranny - Of the group, the only one I'd be really OK with someone using. Transexual - It is clinical, implies a goal of having surgery, and places too much emphasis on what's happening with the body.

T be honest,I liked the term shemale, until I realized that those it was being used to refer to did not. I don't like using terms others find offensive. Ladyboy sounds cool but is only used to describe a certain group. Transexual, as already stated by Bionca is too clinical. Tranny, to me sounds cutsey....so, I guess that would be my choice. Oh, and t-girl, that's a good one too.

Thanks for honest answers , i guess because some of this is sexual fantasy perhaps the term that adds to your fantasy might be the best for each individual ?
Also i think the person who is perhaps the shemale/tranny has a different take on the whole matter and therefore has a whole other way of looking at the 'labels' that are given to them I dont think any right or wrong , just individual choice i guess Happy to agree that transexual does sound clinical though |

I use them all dependent on with whom I talk... regarding "tranny" I can use it teasingly with my friends: "Awww, come here, my sweet little tranny-darling..." or stuff like that, but I would get insulted (on behalf of my friends) if it was used by "outsiders".

I don't mind what title as long as your thoughts don't degrade me. But why do I need a title? 99% of the time it should not matter to you. If you can keep your eyes off my tits, look me in the face and don't call me late for dinner.

Trans -Semantics
I like "shemale" as a general term, But I guess its accepted use refers to girls in the porn industry.
To me, its a natural-sounding word that simply refers to the third sex, as in male, female and shemale, a blending of the two. (of course you could further break it down to MtF or FtM.) I use "shemale" here usually since 99% of the models we post are professional. I like "t-girl" too, a shortened version of transgendered, which seems to be the most accurate and sounds good too. I've never used "tranny", I always thought it sounded a little disrespectful. "Ladyboy"...never use it, refers to a specific group, don't like the way it sounds that much. In real life I just call someone "he" or "she" according to how they want to be addressed. (or how their appearance would suggest that I address them) Last edited by violet lightning; 06-15-2009 at 10:21 AM. |

In her inimitable way, Fran has pointed to the uselessness of the question asked in the first place. I truly do not understand this obsession with labels?!?!

Its quite strange really, where I live, the mension of a Tgirl is usually in some stupid insult or something like that, and i have come to think of the word Tranny as an insult, But I guess its different for other people. I thought shemale was the accepted word, but since My love for Tgirls has come up more i can see it doesnt seem to be. I am confused!! (because I like Tgirls so much, I am even wondering about telling one of my closest freinds, who I can trust with any secret. Plus, she is into gay/yaoi porn/fanfic, so she should be happy that I am willing to give a Tgirl a nice suck!!)

One would especially think that insulting a group of folks you theoretically want to impress would be counter productive. In this particular case, "Shemale" has a history beyond porn. It is not a very good history. To be honest, I'd never date a guy who called me a "shemale", used that word in a personal ad, or dropped it in casual conversation. I'm positive I'm not alone.

Does that mean you'd date any guy who didn't call you a shemale? How many guys do you date in a year? Face it, girl, we're all alone.

Nope, I wouldn't date a guy just because he didn't use "shemale". Using the word, though, is a really good filter. using it in a non-porn setting or in a personal add is one sure way to get me to skip over. I have limited time and I don't see those dudes as a good return on investment. Like if they haven't thought enough to figure out that trans women largely don't like that word, then there are valid questions about how serious they actually are.
