Hi Chef ..
I'm strictly amateur but I love cooking & specialise in Chinese dishes (which I learned to cook whilst serving in Singapore) and Indian food (mainly self-taught) ... I'm also now branching out to include Thai cuisine .. I also enjoy cooking Italian food .. especially Bistecca Pizziaola .. Yummy ... :D As for eating .. I'll eat most things except offal and Parmesan cheese (makes me very ill) ...

Hi Vinisou ...
I'd love to try Japanese cookery .. there's something about Oriental food which just "grabs" me .. I love it ... :D I'd really like to own a complete set of "Global" Japanese Chef's knives .. but they cost a fortune (I've only got one small "Global" at the moment .. but it's like a razor) ... They're made in the same traditional method as Samurai swords, with the steel being folded over on itself countless times .. thus giving a wonderful temper & keeping a very keen edge .. .. 'cos if you haven't any, it's a likely trip to the local Hospital with a missing finger (or two) ...

I cook, but I've never liked doing it. As for restaurants and type of food I like just about every type - Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Ukrainian, German, Polish, Belgian, Italian, Greek, Turkish. In fact I don't recall any type of food that I don't like. I haven't had much Thai cooking, but I do like what I've tried.

I can cook a massive variety of meals from all over the world. Indian, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, and a whole lot more. I'm VERY popular for my catering skills.

I like cooking, but i don't have a clue how to, so I just improvise. I start out making something, and in the end I end up with something entirely different. Most of the time it is actually quite tasty, but I would never be able to make the same thing again.
My favourite cuisine is definitely Indian. I love what they do with spices. There's good food all over the world I think, but I'm not particularily fond of Eastern European food as it is too bland for me. I like some taste in my food. |

I like cooking. I like to reach out for some gourmet dishes - the more challenging the better. However, I detest cleaning up afterwards. How come no one ever came up with disposable cookware?

I always cut my finger doing dinner. Fortunatelly, most of times only hurts, I don't see any blood. But as a "luck" boy I could get killed by myself with those samurai weapons :D

I love Kilgoretrout's idea of disposable cookware ... all except for my 3 beloved Woks of course .. having taken the time & trouble to "season" them properly and enjoying the flavour which that imparts to the food cooked in them, I'd be very loathe to lose them ... :D
The same applies to about 6 "favourite" knives, including my Chinese cleavers .. But the rest of it is just "stuff" .. I've never tried Korean food, which might be interesting .. neither have I tried any East European (unless you count Chicken Kiev & Beef Stroganoff) .. I have tried Mexican food and wasn't impressed, though it was in a "Mexican" Restaurant, so was probably not truly representative of the "real" thing .. I have to say though that the Re-fried Beans resembled the sort of abortion my then Teen-aged Son used to leave in the bottoms of pans when we left him alone some weekends ...

I love to cook
I live in the Boston area, and we have a wonderful selection of seafood. I love to cook and eat anything from the sea -- I'll try anything at least once. I make a lot of dishes with mussels, because you can experiment and nothing ever goes wrong. I cook various fish and experiment with sauces in which to bake them, or different kinds of breading. And I make lobster whenever the price is right -- simple and delicious.
My main problem with cooking is that I am of fluctuating confidence when it comes to what I'm doing, and so sometimes I get overstressed. This happens especially when I follow a recipe. It drives me crazy that there is no precise measurement for, say, a "dash" of something. I can eat spicier foods than 99% of the people I have met around the world. My favorite "ethnic" foods are Thai (especially spicy seafood dishes), Ethiopian, and Persian, and I try to cook these on occasion. Nice thread. Thanks |

Hi SMC ..
I love Mussels .. especially when I visit my Flemish friends in Antwerp .. Moules Mariniere, with Frites & a large "dollop" of Mayo .. accompanied by a nice "Bolleker" of De Koenink .. Talking of Lobster, reminds me of the old joke .. "What do Lobster Thermidore & Oral sex have in common" ? ..... "You'll get neither of them from my Missus" ... :D Many Indian dishes trace their origins back to Persia, with the medieval invasions of Northern India by the Mughals or Moguls ...

Some of the best eating establishments that I was ever in were in Brussels. In addition to Belgian cooking, I'm sure just about every other country in the world is represented there. I found all of Brussels to be fine dining at its best. |
