What a goody gumdrop you are, now he will continue to lose his wallet and other things because he will think someone is going to just mail it back to him.

I hope that you are not serious with this reply. The world needs more people like DSL not fewer. I rather doubt anyone purposely loses personal items so that someone will return them.

I never said he would lose his personal items on purpose, but he would not be as careful as he should be in the future, thinking that if he does lose something, it will simply be returned.

That was a very honourable thing to do, DSL. Not everyone would do that. That money could have been the difference whether or not his family were able to get groceries. With the economy the way it is, that statement could have more truth to it than you might think.

Kudos to you.

Bah Humbug! to Mr.Smith Wouldn't it be a lovely world if everyone was like DSL? To me, it would be a much better world. There are enough "hard" lessons in life; I say we need more goodwill towards men all year around. Christmas is best represented by the short story: The Gift of the Magi . May each of you find the love that is found in this story.

A man was walking along the street on a cold winter day and saw an elderly woman slip and fall on the icy sidewalk ahead of him. He put down his packages to help her up, and then allowed her to hold on to his arm as he saw her to her car a little further along down the block. When he arrived home, he realized that he had failed to pick up one of his packages, and that it had been left out on the sidewalk. Thank goodness no one returned it, lest he fail to be taught the valuable lesson that he shouldn't have helped the woman. Next time, he will be more careful with his possessions and not allow good will towards others to get in the way of his appointed rounds.

What's the word for this kind of thinking? Asinine!

A woman was sitting at the park reading a book on a beautiful summer day. Suddenly, she heard a young boy scream. She looked up and saw a man carrying a toddler towards the wooded area at the park's edge. The boy was crying and saying he wanted his mommy. The woman quickly ran to the corner where there was a parked police car and informed the officer, who ran the would-be kidnapper down and rescued the boy. The mother who had been frantically looking for her wandering son was enormously grateful. The woman felt great as she walked home. But when she arrived home she realized that she had left her book on the park bench. It had her name and address written on the title page, but thank goodness no one bothered to return it to her, lest she get the wrong idea that there are circumstances under which your own possessions might not be as (or more) important than, say, the well-being of child.

What's the word for this kind of thinking? Senseless!

And I'm being nice in my choice of words.

Merry Christmas to all, and thanks to DSL for an example of how the world would be if we didn't have pseudo-"social Darwinism" idiots to contend with.

If a lighted Monument counts as tree, how about a lighted mountain? 800m x 400m (about 875 x 437 yards) Gubbio in Italy.

Just to add a true story to this, a young girl was the victim of an attempted abduction in Canada a few days ago. A small group of people came to her rescue(only one person recognized her, the rest were strangers) and helped her out as well as preventing the scumwad from attempting to leave. One of the rescuers(the abductor was attempting to pull her into his car at the time and had his car keys in his hands) grabbed the keys from his hands and he was stuck there.

I don't want to drag this thread too far off-topic, but if the OP doesn't mind I could post a link to the news article so people can read how this girl's family can have a wonderful Christmas thanks to a few people.

Well, it's Christmas Eve...
The tree is trimmed...my stocking is hung...
And the oven is primed for baking some cookies.

However, all of that would mean nothing without warm spirits and even warmer friends to celebrate the holiday with, as we head into a bright new year. So I'd just like to wish everyone here a joyful season because if there's one thing I've learned in the past year, it's that this forum is filled with exceptional people. So, I raise a glass of milk and a cookie to toast you all!

But I hope everyone has a GREAT holiday, and just remember that it's the season to make wishes because there's always tomorrow to make them come true!

Very, very good idea, DSL. I hope everyone decides to find alternate means of going home if they enjoy the festivities a little too much.
