The movie I am thinking of is none of the ones mentioned. Summer School? Does that sound familiar? It could be that, but I am not certain. |

I have no idea. What I want to know is how you even got to go see a movie in the 1980s.

TMN(The Movie Network).

Really? Do your parents know the babysitter let you stay up late?
Oh, wait, you had one of those 1980s teen-movie-type relationships with the babysitter, right? |

Being the oldest sibling, I was the babysitter(much to the chagrin of my younger sister).

Please, I beg you -- and I am sure I speak for everyone else here -- not to tell us about that thing with your sister.

She used to love Orange Crush. She would pester and pester for it. She also really loved Cream of Mushroom soup. I told her that she could not have an Orange Crush until she ate her supper. Since she loved that soup so much I decided to make some up for her. I opened the can, turned it upside down, and let it plop down into a plastic bowl. With the quivering mass of congealed soup placed in front of her, I proceeded to open a different can of Orange Crush and drank it in front of her. It took years before she could eat Cream of Mushroom soup again. And before anyone says "You beast! How could you?", I must remind them that it is in the handbook of the Big Brother. You must tease younger siblings whenever you can(especially younger sisters). You make up for that by making sure that no pieces of shit ever hurt them, and I was quite successful in that so it makes me a good big brother in the grand scheme of things. |

Now that's a good one. And what a gripping film it would be.

I did hear that he wanted to direct the new remake of The Blob(before Rob Zombie got a hold of it), but the cost of a can of Orange Crush and a can of Cream of Mushroom soup was too much for his budget.

No connection to Saw as far as i know , at least not as a producer or director. Eli may have hyped the movie in interviews.
I wish he would turn his Grindhouse faux trailer "Thanksgiving Day" into a feature , a Thanksgiving slasher film has never been done. I liked the twist at the end of Hostel 2. |

Check your pm.
And the movie w/ John Cusack and the boat was "One Crazy Summer". It had a unique cast , Demi Moore , Bobcat Goldthwait , Curtis Armstrong , Jeremy Piven , John Murray. Fave scene is when Bobcat get's stuck in the Godzilla costume. |

And the little sister and her dog "Bosco".
The crazy uncle who spent the entire summer trying to be the special caller for a radio contest , only to be the lucky caller and accidentally jerk his phone outta the wall. lol |

This all reminds me of another "summer" movie: "Wet Hot American Summer." Janeane Garofalo is the director of a summer camp, and there is a bunch of crazy counselors and campers. Another real hoot!

Back to newer movies...
In the last 2 weeks I watched Land of the Lost. Anything with Will Ferrel in it is good. Saw Law Abiding citizen with Gerard Butler. Very suspensefull thriller. Also saw Gamer. He's a good actor.

Saw this last night
My kid and I saw 2012 last night. Good special effects. Some of the effects were a bit far fetched though. The flying scenes in particular

Speaking of 2012 and far-fetched, hows about Cusack as a writer/limo driver all of a sudden becoming the best driver in the history of the world. Didn't buy that for a second, didn't buy much of that film but that was the clincher. Woody kicked ass though, he had a good year what with Zombieland and The Messenger.
And while on the subject of far-fetched movies, ladies and gentlemen I give you Law Abiding Citizen. |

I'm just curious: which part of the first Star Wars movie was the most far-fetched to you? Was it Obi-Wan's ability with the light saber at his advanced age? Or R2D2 facility with languages? Or perhaps how well the gun-turret chairs swivel in the Millenium Falcon? |

smc, the difference between Star Wars and 2012 is that Star Wars is a good movie, 2012 is not.
The driving of Cusack's character is pretty well essential to there even being a movie, as they would have been killed off early in the film. I didn't buy him as the character for a second, and seeing as he's the main character and I don't rely on just visuals of a film for me to pass judgement, it stood out to me the most. Special effects are just that, I mean I like the 1933 King Kong the most of the three, so I don't put too much stock in that. As for the destruction (catastrophe) of the earth and that being far-fetched, anything is possible and while I don't believe that the world will end in 2012 (or change) I do know that our little time of civilized existence here is absolutely nothing compared to the life of the planet, or the universe for that matter, who knows what could happen. Hey, but at least the girl solved that bed-wetting problem. As for Star Wars, Obi-Wan is a Jedi Master, I don't think age has much to do with it. R2D2 is a droid, I have no idea what has been programmed into his (her?) robot brain and don't care to know. Simple is better sometimes, less is more. The main problem with the prequels. Gun-turret chairs in the Falcon? You're stretching on that one there. Now back to shemales, I have another site for movies. Just one question though smc, who shot first? edit: my 100th post, that was quick! Last edited by km1; 03-22-2010 at 02:29 AM. |

far fetched
The flying scenes were some of the most far fetched I thought. The Antonov would stall if you tried to make it climb like that.

Thanks for jogging my memory. Of course, Han shot first in the original. I know there was some controversy about George Lucas altering it in late 1990s, but I'm don't follow all things Star Wars enough to remember the details.

Bah! It was Greedo who shot first. I have the DVD and the 80's era casette and when I play it in slo-mo, it always shows the blaster bolt leaving Greedos pistol first.

You should watch the Original VHS again and not your changed Special Edition DVD! And you really don?t need the slow-mo to see what happens.

Remember the crappy CGI scene with Han and Jabba in the first one (IV)?
Here you can see how Jabba looked and talked in 77. It was deleted from the original. But be warned, you will never see Jabba the Hut in the same way again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKeGpzYYyL8 To get the bridge to new movies: George Lucas plans to edit Star Wars into 3D. I fear the worst 3D effects, unnecessary 80th like near/far effects. |

One of the signs of a truly great artist is knowing when to quit. Lucas created one of the best science fiction epics ever with his original Star Wars. He did it by transforming a classic American genre -- the Western -- and giving it a new setting, with compelling characters preeminent and special effects secondary. It's a shame that he couldn't stop there! |

On my VHS that I have, it shows Greedo firing first. It seems the Star Wars fairy has re-edited my VHS as well! Fuck you George Lucas!
