Sarah Palin
What do all of you think about her?
Do you feel she has been unfairly attacked? Do you feel she would be a worse president than Bush 43? Do you feel her intellectual qualities are ignored? Do you feel she is smarter than Obama? Do you Megan McCain likes her or is a RINO traitor? Obama gets a thread for Conse 'Pubs to attack ad nauseum, and this thread will equal out that equation. |

If the question is about her politics, shouldn't the poll choices be about whether you agree or disagree? This "love" and "like" and "hate" stuff is useless. (Not that I think there's any value to these sorts of polls here, either, but I'm just sayin' ... IMHO)

I live in Massachusetts. People in the know in Massachusetts understand that Scott Brown did not win because Massachusetts voters turned to a Republican. He won because Massachusetts voters abstained. Look at these results. In 2008, Obama won 1.9 million votes to McCain's 1.1 million in Massachusetts. In 2010, Coakley won 1.05 million votes to Brown's 1.16 million. In other words, Brown essentially won all the votes McCain got (okay, a very few more), and 850,000 people who are fed up with the broken promises of Obama stayed home instead of putting his candidate Coakley in the Senate. That explains how an overwhelming majority of Massachusetts citizens can support the public option in healthcare and Brown still wins. It is the only explanation. People stayed home because they just don't see the point. |

Palin
Oh dear, now we are going to have a discussion on Palin. Read the reviews of her performance at the Tea party get together. Granted, she is good looking, a bit sexy and a pretty good speaker. However, how many are going to buy into her hate filled rhetoric. She appeals to a minority of Americans who are poorly educated, frustrated and bigoted. The Republican party can do better than that if it wants to survive. The majority of Americans are optimistic and want a better life in a better country. She is the opposite of Reagan who soothed nerves and made many Americans feel better.

I think the big story will be if the Palin-ites and the Republican Party unite, which both sides want, but both sides want to be in charge. MEOW!
Chris Wallace- "You don't really think Obama will attack Iran, do you?" Sarah Palin- "Well, ....he might" I see a stormy romance ahead! |

What do all of you think about her?
She's encouraging wrong-thinking Americans. Supporter sez, "See, that down-to-earth, confident person agrees with me I MUST be right!". Do you feel she has been unfairly attacked? Yes. Many of the attacks are clumsy, rude and/or false. She should be discussed, debated and called out but not attacked willy-nilly. Do you feel she would be a worse president than Bush 43? Yes, although this would depend on her advisors since she's likely to be heavily influenced by them. Do you feel her intellectual qualities are ignored? She is of average ability. Not good enough to be president. Do you feel she is smarter than Obama? Fuck no. And she knows less. That said, she could stumble onto some right answers. Do you Megan McCain likes her or is a RINO traitor? ?? |

Now, if she turned out to have a dick, I'd consider spending some non-political time with her.

An Outsider's Opinion
When I listen to Sarah talking I find it hard to believe that she attended an institute of higher learning. I really have to wonder if she was paying attention at said institute. Sarah does sound to me like she is a sincere person, but she too often is out of her depths.
As for looks, Sarah is a very beautiful woman. Unfortunately it takes more than good looks to run a country effectively. I think the Republican party would be in a great deal of trouble if Sarah is chosen as the party's candidate in the next presidential election. |

In his 1857 inaugural speech, James Buchanan said that slavery was "of little practical importance." After all, he noted, the Supreme Court was about to settle the matter -- which it did two days later, with the Dred Scott decision. Now that's idiocy of the first rank. Of course, Sarah Palin doesn't know what the Dred Scott decision was, and she probably can't tell Pat Buchanan and James Buchanan apart. |

I would gladly impregnate Sarah Palin and her daughter in a raunchy threesome. The only condition would be that I would name the resulting children.
Who the hell names their kids "Trip" and "Trig"? You have just ruined that kids life by naming him/her a weird ass name that sounds retarded. Not to go off in a different direction, but I hate people who name their kids something like "Aiden" or "Brayden" or some weird ass spelling of a name with a "y" in it.

I can't stand her. She makes me very sad to be registered as a Republican, and furthermore a critically-thinking human being. I don't know much about her and I don't really care to, much the same as any other celebrity. She has yet to say anything that is of political or philosophical worth and I doubt she ever will. So until then, I'll continue to consider Sarah Palin to be a nuisance.

Tiddily winks - modern politics
As far as this poll goes, I like her. Would I vote for her for prez? I doubt it. But then it would have to depend on who the opposition was. Ronald McDonald? Hmmmm, that would be a toughie.
Compared to Geraldine Ferraro or Elizabeth Dole; Sarah Palin is a bubblehead.

The lastest edition of The Boston Phoenix, our weekly "alternative" newspaper here, has an editorial that begins with something worth sharing in this thread, because it made me laugh out loud.
"If Sarah Palin were to smoke a joint while piloting a flying saucer to Cuba, evidence suggests that more than one third of America would approve." Now that's a great image (see below for the actual image that accompanies the piece in print). The editorial goes on to explain: "That's not because Palin is especially popular. She isn't. Last month, 71 percent of Americans surveyed for a CBS News poll said they did not want to see Palin run for president and 41 percent said that they had a negative opinion of her. Only 26 percent viewed her positively. "Given all of Palin's ink and tube time, that is pretty sketchy. But the fact of the matter is that more Americans favor legalizing marijuana (41 percent) than favor Palin. "More Americans have a favorable view of Cuba (38 percent) than of Palin. "And more Americans believe in UFOs (34 percent) than think Palin should sit in the Oval Office." And to put that in the Palin context: "Professional politicans and news executives consider legalizing pot and normalizing relations with Cuba to be marginal issues (Nobody has ever accused the political class -- or the corporate monopolies that control mainstream media -- of being forward looking. As for negotiating with beings from outer space, we'll leave that to the tea partiers to sort out.) Yet these marginal issues enjoy an average favorability of 38 percent, making them 12 points more popular than Palin. "Does that mean Palin should fire up a bone, hop into her spaceship, and hightail it to Havana? One can only dream. Sarah in the sky toking away would at least be newsworthy. Talk about woman bites dog." The editorial's real thrust -- in case you're interested -- is about "TV's conservative bias" (that's the headline from the Phoenix). I won't go any further than that, because I don't want to spark a secondary discussion. I just thought my forum friends would enjoy this bit of the editorial. |

Except as you stated at the beginning, the article comes from an "alternative" paper, which will clearly have a political leaning (most likely Left). And I find it interesting that they quote poll numbers, but in the excerpts you supplied it's never stated WHERE they actually came from or how legitimate they are. So, let's look at actual numbers from a reputable source. As of today, here's what America is REALLY thinking and feeling, courtesy of Gallup... Obama has a 50% approval rating -- meaning the country is literally split right down the middle. Half of us like him, half of us hate him. The bad news for Obama and the Democrates? Overall, the current rate of national unemployment and/or under-employed is 19.7%. That means a staggering 1 out 5 Americans need jobs. Equally bad: 45% of Americans consider economic conditions "poor", while only 9% rate it good. But the biggest blow of all is that 56% -- a clear majority -- say economic conditions are STILL getting WORSE. Based on a Feb 1-3 poll, currently 44% of Americans would vote to reelect Obama, while 42% -- essentially a statistical tie -- now say they'd vote for ANY Republican candidate, even unnamed at this time, just to unseat Obama. As with the last election, Independents are the key. But right now, Obama has his work cut out for them. Independents are the fastest growing political affiliation in the country. However, Independents would now prefer a Republican in the Oval Office over Obama, by a 45% to 31% spread. So, what does this mean for Palin? Actually, it means she's creeping up, as this LA TIMES article notes... Not that it matters politically because obviously she's a female Republican dunce and he's obviously a male Democratic genius. But Sarah Palin's poll numbers are strengthening. And President Obama's are sliding. Guess what? They're about to meet in the 40s. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/wash...ers-are-c.html Last edited by CreativeMind; 02-23-2010 at 08:03 PM. |
