The process of expanding the photos is from a lightbox script. There are many different versions you can try that open up the photos in different ways, I am actually looking at another version as we speak cause I wasnt super happy on that version...if you do google search you will find a billion of them, just search for lightbox script, and yeah if you have more web design questions u can hit me up on private, workiing on the two new models as I type this, coming soon
