No. "Shemale", as a term, goes back to the very early 20th Century, as a pejorative term for feminists and aggressive women. Bh the 1970s, it became essentially co-opted by the porn industry to refer trans women.
As a personal term of identity, it's used by only a handful of people, of varied experience (some, as you describe, others, closer to the TS woman side of the spectrum), even though most other transsexual women consider it insulting.
