i read an article some time ago (cant find it now) that interviewed two ladyboys going through transition. they said that they wern't gay nor did they have any deep desire to be female, they were going through this process to earn money from westerners. their intention was to undergo a full sex change. they said that they were supported by their families, who were particularly interested in the money that these "girls" would send back home.

im sure this is a rare case, but it seems to me that money is a very powerful motivator.
