A transsexual Brazilian prostitute known as 'Brenda,' who was linked to a sex scandal involving former Italian politician Piero Marrazzo, has been found burned to death in her Rome apartment, according to reports.

Sources told Reuters that magistrates were treating the death as murder. A bottle of whiskey and packed suitcases were found near her body, reports said.

Marrazzo resigned in late October after he was allegedly blackmailed by four Italian policeman who obtained a video of him having sex and taking drugs with another Brazilian transsexual known as Natalie, who was friends with 'Brenda.' After initial denying the incident, he soon admitted to having hired the prostitutes and using cocaine.

Two weeks ago, 'Brenda' had called the police to report that she bad been beaten and robbed by a gang of Eastern Europeans, UPI notes.

Indian transsexuals to register as 'other' on electoral rolls
Taking a landmark decision, the Election Commission of India allowed the eunuchs and transsexuals to indicate their sex as 'Other' in the electoral roll and in all other forms used by the EC including IT-based formats and websites, foreign media say.

"Enumerators and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) shall be instructed to indicate the sex of eunuchs/transsexuals etc as 'O' if they so desire, while undertaking any house-to-house enumeration/verification of any application," the EC said.

In a statement released on Thursday, Nov 12, the poll panel said that the necessary instructions to all Electoral Registration Officers have been issued through the Chief Electoral Officers of all states and Union Territories to implement the decision.

Until now, the eunuch were registered as male or female based on the statement given by the person concerned.

However, on receiving demands from individuals and interest groups to include them in the electoral rolls with an independent identity, the EC took this decision.

More persecution

Rome, Nov 23 (IANS/AKI) Italian authorities would deport 10 Brazilian transsexuals who were reportedly friends of Brenda, the prostitute at the centre of a sex and drugs scandal found dead in Rome Friday, officials said.
They are expected to be deported within a week to Brazil.

"They are people who engage in prostitution and are thus checked just like any other prostitutes," said Maurizio Improta, head of the immigration office.

On Friday, the transsexuals said they feared for their lives after the death of the Brazilian prostitute Brenda, who was found dead after a fire broke out at her apartment in northern Rome early Friday.

She made headlines after allegedly having more than one sexual encounter with the former governor of the Lazio region Piero Marrazzo in an extortion, sex and drugs scandal, which led to the governor's resignation in October.:(

How nice to see that they are treated as things rather than people.

*sarcasm mode off*

Man, that is such bullshit. I really hope, especially sometime in my lifetime, that people will wake up and realize that we are all human beings struggling to find happiness in this world and that it would be easier to find if we all treated each other with respect.:(

It sounds like Marrazzo had something to do with Brenda's death. If he did not, I hope they find the person(people) responsible for this horrible act and prosecute them!:(

I think there is an important aspect to this story that is being overlooked. The Trans (Or Hijra) community asked for this designation. It wasn't placed on them by the government.

I would assume that this can be used to lobby the government for access to social service programs or to give an indication as to the how large the population is and where they are located. This was targeted job training, STD education and other programs can be applied where most useful.

the important thing is the community thinks this is a good move and a step forward.

It looks like you may be right. When I had first read it, I thought it meant special interest groups(like the various groups in Canada/Us) that protested various events/people when it didn't fall into their view. I guess I leapt before I looked.

I had the same thoughts until I reread an article about it. It also bears mention that SE Asia has a long tradition of 3 genders, while we in the west do not. So, culturally it is likely not such a big deal to have an "other" or whatever classification.

That is another good point, Bionca. There are a lot of different cultural customs and beliefs out there, and I learn more about them from time to time. Not all of them are good(at least from my perspective), but certainly not all of them are bad either. They could look at our customs and beliefs and feel the exact same way(and they probably do;)).

I am surprised that the "other" community supported this designation. Lumping many types of transgendered people with castrated males, eunuchs, and calling them "other" seems misleading and confusing, to me anyway. :frown:

From the EXaminer.com, Los Angeles

Despite the global economic downturn, hitherto unprecedented new-business initiatives are being launched by major US Internet-content providers, movie producers and publishing houses in an effort to satisfy public demand for all things transsexual - including (you guessed it) traditional XXX video rentals. Video sales manager Daryl Jenkins says, "You've got every company out there running to make transsexual tapes. Ten to 20 are coming out a week" - a trend that apparently surprised even the industry's top prognosticators (except for Rogen, of course). Indeed, for many companies, transsexual titles are now outselling all others. Anthony Simone, an adult-industry marketing manager, told Joanne Cachapero of Xbiz.com that, while he suspected his newest transsexual titles would be successful, he was not at all prepared for what happened: "We've had some really popular titles that have done well, but [our transsexual titles] have outsold everything so far."

Secretly Adored, Publicly Abhorred

If there's a silver lining to this story, perhaps it's that increased coverage and awareness of the transsexual condition may eventually lead to increased acceptance of transsexual women as equal members of female society. So far, anything approaching real compassion has proved remarkably - and some might argue, rather hypocritically - elusive.

Despite growing worldwide interest in transsexual women, the majority of both traditional and digital sources has yet to treat the topic seriously, opting instead to focus on the more sensational, controversial or pornographic elements of trans culture. This prevailing tendency - evident even among more "enlightened" networks like LOGO (TransAmerican Love Story? Are you kidding me?) - has proved quite vexing to those familiar with true trans culture. Regardless of what the Jerry Springers of the world would have us believe, transsexual women are not all prostitutes, nightclub performers, porn stars or money-grubbing nymphomaniacs.

So just how many women are responsible for this new (trans)sexual revolution? Most scientists and researchers now estimate that one in every 12,000 genetic males is born transsexual. This means that, for every transsexual female alive in the world today, there are more than 750 single men who "secretly love" them.

In light of the colossal challenges transsexuals face simply for being true to themselves, I could think of no better group more deserving of such widespread adoration. Besides, you don't have to smoke Pineapple Express to know these girls are hot. :inlove:

Book on transsexuals

Madison Claire is a 38-year-old transwoman, author, editor, columnist and former
director of a national communications firm. She has published hundreds of articles,
edited a dozen books and magazines, lectured at colleges and universities, and
earned numerous awards for writing, editing and publishing. She is currently the
Transsexual Relationships Examiner for the online newssource Examiner.com and
the moderator of a several online social-media networks on the topic. She is the
hosts of a monthly workshop for heterosexual men interested in learning more
about transsexual women and relationships. When she's not writing, conducting
workshops or carving up Arizona's desert roads on her FZR1000 sportbike, she
works as a Trans-Romantic Consultant for P.L.U.T.O., the first Social Club &
Dating Service dedicated exclusively to "Promoting Lifelong Unions for
Transsexual Couples." She currently lives and writes in Phoenix, Arizona.

Book Synopsis

If men are from Mars and women from Venus, then transwomen must hail from an entirely
different planet altogether. Neither wholly male nor wholly female, transsexual women
confound our terrestrial notions of gender, sex, orientation and femininity.

In the tradition of John Gray's preeminent relationship guide, Girls from Pluto: The Straight
Guy's Field Guide to Loving & Dating Transsexual Women puts the transsexual phenomenon in
a clear, familiar context that's readily accessible, uniquely insightful and - above all - practically
useful.

Written for intelligent men in search of more than pop-culture gossip or glittery decolletage,
Girls from Pluto is a must-read for every man who's ever seriously considered (or secretly
imagined) dating or loving a transsexual woman.

The search for true love is one of the most fundamental imperatives of every human being, and
transsexual women are no exception. The search defines our lives as women, yet our
prospective male partners are often prohibitively misinformed, left as they are to conduct their
own recognizance alone in the darkness of uncharted space. Growing media coverage and the
explosion of trans-related sex sites have done little to educate anyone on the true reality of trans
dating life, culture, maturity, etiquette, socializing, communicating or romantic intimacy.

The first-ever book of its kind, Girls from Pluto is the straight man's guide to understanding and
relating to the real trans-romantic experience. Filled with rich content, situational strategies and
the kind of insider advice only a smart, sensitive transwoman could relate.

President Obama recently named Amanda Simpson to be a Senior Technical Advisor to the Commerce Department.

In a statement, Simpson, a member of the National Center for Transgender Equality's board of directors, said that "as one of the first transgender presidential appointees to the federal government, I hope that I will soon be one of hundreds, and that this appointment opens future opportunities for many others."

While Simpson is clearly one of the first transgender presidential appointees, Democratic officials say they're unsure if she is the very first one.

A Belfast newspaper has been found guilty of breaching the press code of practice for describing a transsexual as 'a tranny.'

The Sunday Life was reported to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) by a male-to-female transsexual who had worked as a rape counsellor in Belfast.

The paper had raised concerns about her suitability for the role and described her as a 'tranny.'

The PCC said the use of the word was pejorative and upheld the complaint.

The newspaper had said that no offence had been intended in the use of the word which it considered to be "widely used" in articles about transsexuals and transvestites.

The complainant, Keira McCormack from Warrington, said that there was a significant difference between transvestites and transsexuals, arguing that the term tended to be used by the former and not the latter.

The PCC ruled that while the newspaper was entitled to publish a story about people's concerns over the suitability of Ms McCormack's employment, her gender identity should not have been open to ridicule.

Taking into account the full context of the story, the PCC considered that the use of the word was pejorative, breaching the discrimination clause of the editors' Code of Practice.
Any comment on definition of "tranny"?

I don't think I've ever met a TV who would call themselves a 'Tranny' (unless they're into being abused that is) this is just the sort of term they often print in the press over here in the UK - 'Gender-Bender' is another favourite. I do wonder if she actually knows any TVs these days.

I'm glad she complained though - the press in the UK likes having a pop at any perceived sexual 'deviancy' (especially if they can dress it up as some kind of nudge-nudge-wink-wink type 'joke') and they need to be reminded that it's people's lives they're talking about.

Gay Group Demands Letterman Apologize for Mocking Transgender Appointee Amanda Simpson
Human Rights Coalition Calls David Letterman Joke 'Inappropriate and Incendiary'
By RUSSELL GOLDMAN

Jan. 6, 2009 ?

The country's largest gay-rights group today demanded an apology from David Letterman, for making what it called "inappropriate and incendiary remarks" regarding President Obama's appointment of a transgender woman to the Commerce Department.

In his monologue Tuesday, Letterman remarked that Amanda Simpson, a transgender woman, had been appointed to work in the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security, where she will monitor the export of military technology.

As a photograph of Simpson was shown, announcer Alan Kalter shouted, "What? Amanda? Amanda used to be a dude?"

"Oh my God!" he shouted, before running off stage, with audience laughing.

In a letter to Letterman and CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler, Human Rights Campaign called the bit "inappropriate and incendiary" and said it reflected "transphobia," a fear or hatred of transgender people.

"Your skit affirmed and encouraged a prejudice against transgender Americans that keeps many from finding jobs, housing, and enjoying freedoms you and your writers take for granted every day," HRC's Allyson Robinson wrote in the letter.

Robinson said the punch line of the bit has "been used as a defense in nearly every hate crime perpetrated against transgender people that has come to trial." She cited two cases in which individuals suspected of murdering transgender people claimed they did so in a rage after learning about their victims' gender identity.

Letterman spokesman Tom Keaney told ABCNews.com he would not comment. :frown:

sex change

BOSTON ? The U.S. Tax Court ruled Tuesday that a Massachusetts woman should be allowed to deduct the costs of her sex-change operation, a decision that could have broad implications for transgender people.
Rhiannon O'Donnabhain (oh-DON'-oh-vin), who was born a man, sued the Internal Revenue Service after the agency rejected a $5,000 deduction for approximately $25,000 in medical expenses associated with the sex-change surgery.
The IRS said the surgery was cosmetic and not medically necessary.
In its decision Tuesday, the tax court said the IRS position was "at best a superficial characterization of the circumstances" that is "thoroughly rebutted by the medical evidence."
The legal group Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders, which represented O'Donnabhain, said the ruling could potentially affect thousands of people a year in the U.S. who undergo similar operations.
"I think what the court is saying is that surgery and hormone therapy for transgender people to alleviate the stress associated with gender identity disorder is legitimate medical care," said Jennifer Levi, a GLAD attorney.

For the sake of all transpeople in the US I hope this ruling will apply to all transgenders. I think this is a step forward, by the US court system, to recognizing the legitimate medical expenses that transgender people do have.

Folks, America?s rapid descent into post-Christian chaos continues. The 11-5 U.S. Tax Court decision below now gives a (sizeable) monetary incentive for men and women steeped in gender confusion to go through grotesque and horrifying, body-disfiguring ?sex-change? operations. I?m saying this as someone who attended a ?female-to-male? ?transgender? conference where I witnessed young, early-twenties women showing off their newly-flattened chests ? after their healthy breasts were surgically removed in their quest to be like men.
Yes, in the Brave New ?Transgender? World, trans women cut off their healthy breasts while their male counterparts seek to grow a feminine-like pair in a pathetic attempt to become like women. (And ?pathetic? doesn?t begin to describe the MtF ? male-to-female ? transsexual?s effort to create a makeshift ?vagina? from his surgically-dismantled, once-healthy penis.)
Note the last paragraph in the AP story below: this poor man ? yes, he is still a man ? Rhiannon O?Donnabhain ? actually sought a deduction for his follow-up boob job, after he had already grown fake breasts by taking female hormones. (The latter ?augmentation? deduction was denied.) Who could make this stuff up?
Men were never intended to have sex with men, nor were they intended to try to turn their bodies, as God made them ? into female bodies, as God made them. Wake up, America: your judicially-approved tax code is now creating incentives for one of the most tragic manifestations of rebellious man?s claim to know better than God. In the meantime, Mister O?Donnabhain needs our prayers. ? Peter LaBarbera, www.aftah.org
P.S. Does this mean that parents, too, are going to receive a tax break for pushing aggressive ?transgender? treatments on their gender-confused children?
Looks like the far right nut jobs are now going after transsexuals. :censored:

Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, eh?

Why would you want to spend such a large amount of time and energy on a website like that - when, as a Christian, you must surely believe that your god will judge them when they die?

An amateur Psychologist would have a field day wondering about this guy's motivation... :)

Many posters including transsexuals on this site are very politically conservative. I find this mystifying due to the fact that the conservative adjenda is not only homophobic but transphobic. ???

Man, that is such bullshit. I really hope, especially sometime in my lifetime, that people will wake up and realize that we are all human beings struggling to find happiness in this world and that it would be easier to find if we all treated each other with respect.:(

indeed, i just hope we realize it soon.

Actually true conservatism and homophobia are not inextricably joined at the hip any more than one's sexual orientation is linked to one's gender. We have just been conditioned in recent years to think that it is, because the conservative parties have chosen to pretend that they are the last bastion of moral piety, condemning everything that doesn't conform to their narrow point of view. Sadly their are liberals who are equally homophobic, but they don't tend to be as vocal.

If this is a culture war, and I would say that it is, then we should not write off potential allies, nor should we assume that we are welcome at the table simply because we see people who seem to say and do all the right things.

Quote:

Washington Times reporter Frank Gaffney and California Congressman Duncan Hunter, both bigots and homophobes representing the Republican Party and Jesus are warning us that allowing Gays in the military will also force transgenders and hermaphrodites into the Marines. Stephen Colbert explains that hermaphrodites are not gay but doubly straight!

I might also add that hermaphrodites make up a whopping .04% of Americans. You can also bet that personal issues regarding those .04% would also keep them from joining the Marines. So the argument made by these two Republcian bigots is as spurious as their political Party and their intolerant brand of religion.

And what about "transgender?" Do these bigots understand that encompasses those who have had their sex changed by surgery? Which would also play to the same argument Colbert makes about Hermaphrodites?
Of course not, bigotry replaces understanding.

Are we supposed to "tolerate" these idiots? :censored:

Pakistan's 'third gender' seek rights

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan - Taunted at home, Sanhya ran away at age 12, searching for acceptance as she sees herself - neither male nor female, but a member of a third gender.

Pakistan's transgender community has long lived on society's margins, harassed by police, ridiculed as freaks, pitied as the outcast people of Allah and often rejected by their own families. Now the Supreme Court is giving them hope through a petition for their rights to be respected.

"People are recognizing that we are also human beings," said Almas Bobby, who acts as head of the community and fights for equal rights.

A series of hearings by the court over the past 11 months could be the first steps toward bringing them into the mainstream. The court has already suggested authorities consider adding a third gender to state-issued identity cards - a bold proposal in Pakistan's conservative society.

The community is known as "khusra," which Pakistanis translate as "eunuch" in English, though the meaning is broader than a castrated man, the common definition in the West. Besides transsexuals, it also includes hermaphrodites, people with both male and female sexual organs. Some have undergone sex-change surgery.

Transgender people in much of the world view themselves as women born in a man's body, or vice versa. In Pakistan and other south Asian countries, those born male often see themselves as neither sex, though they wear women's clothing and refer to each other as "she."

On identity cards, "they wrote men," Bobby said. "We want eunuch. If we are eunuch, please write eunuch, not men."

Adding a third gender would be a symbolic victory for the community, giving it hope of social acceptance, she said. The proposal borrows from the example of neighbouring India, whose election commission ruled late last year that transgender people could register to vote as "other," rather than male or female.

"Our parents feel embarrassed for us to be called khusra," said Sanhya, who is now 19 and lives with other khusra in Rawalpindi, a city next to the capital, Islamabad. "But we need our identity. It is our right." Like most in her community, she would only give the female name she adopted.

While Sanhya and Bobby say the situation has improved since the Supreme Court took notice of their plight, their community is still dogged by violence.

Several dozen khusra gathered recently to remember 28-year-old Nadia Malik, whose body was found on a street in Rawalpindi. They said she had been stabbed repeatedly and then run over by a car.

"She was brutally killed," said Sanaa, a bright-eyed 22-year-old with carefully applied makeup and wearing a blue shalwar kameez, a traditional Pakistani women's outfit. "We have reported it to the police, but so far they have found nothing," she said. She refused to speculate about the killers' motive.

There are no official figures for khusra, though Bobby estimates there are several hundred thousand. Many live in communal homes under the leadership of a "guru," a fellow khusra who looks after their needs and takes a cut of their earnings.

Despite the discrimination they suffer, Pakistani Islamic society tolerates them as dancers at festivals and weddings, where men and women are segregated and khusra are seen as bridging the gap. They also earn money blessing newborn babies or begging: Their curses are widely feared and few dare send them away empty-handed. Many work as prostitutes.

"People laugh at them wherever they go," said Mohammad Aslam Khaki, the lawyer who filed the petition at the Supreme Court in early 2009 in an attempt to stop khusra facing discrimination in employment, health care, housing and other rights. "Their dignity is violated."

To tackle police harassment, the court ruled that authorities must send it copies of the case files of any khusra arrested. It has also issued orders to guarantee them free health care and their right to inheritances, which are sometimes denied them by families who have rejected them.

The court is to hold more hearings, and has asked provincial governments to provide progress reports on what steps they are taking to improve the khusra's situation.

"We are just fighting for our rights," says Sanhya. "This Pakistan belongs to us also."

Associated Press writer Muneeza Naqvi in New Delhi contributed to this report

It sounds like a step in the right direction, especially since they have been treated so poorly for so long. This has the potential to begin a huge change for Pakistan!

Transphobic Taco Bell Ads Still Running

By Advocate.com Editors

randolph 02-08-2010 01:28 PM

Taco Bell claims a transphobic spot that had LGBT activists riled up last week has been yanked from the air ? but a similar ad is still playing on Los Angeles radio stations as of Sunday, January 24.

Earlier this month BorderHouseBlog.com reported on the radio spot in which a man and a woman are discussing a value-priced 89-cent taco. At the end of the ad, the woman says, ?Well, I have a surprise for you. I was born male, my name was Claudio,? to which the man in the ad screams, ?Ew.?

GLAAD got involved
, and a spokesperson for Taco Bell quickly issued the following statement. ?We sincerely apologize as the ad was not meant to offend anyone and as soon as it was brought to our attention, we immediately stopped airing it.?

An ad airing Sunday morning in Los Angeles on KIIS FM during Ryan Seacrest?s weekly American Top 40 countdown offers a similar punch line.

In this ad, after a fight between the man and the woman, the woman says, ?Well, then I don?t feel so guilty telling you ... [I wasn?t born] Martha.? The woman?s voice then changes to a man?s voice, which says, ?I?m Marvin.?

A spokesperson for Taco Bell could not be reached over the weekend to comment on the ads still airing. Advocate.com will continue to reach out to Taco Bell for comment. Check back here for updates.:censored:

Tommi Rose

Changing Her Tune: How a Transsexual Woman Claims a New Identity Through Voice
Katharine Stoel Gammon One January evening in downtown San Francisco, the front hall of the Regency Ballroom was filled with people dressed in floor-length gowns. Sequins were particularly popular. A woman in a rhinestone-covered strappy number walked by, even her hair glimmering in sparkles. Other dresses dipped dangerously low in the back, revealing toned muscles, or cascaded in the front to expose buxom cleavage. Tightly laced corsets created slim waistlines and hourglass shapes. Splendidly styled heads with big curls and plentiful hairspray bobbed through the crowded marble corridor. Flashbulbs popped as the most celebrated participants walked into the room, their stiletto heels clacking against the cold stone floor. A buzz suffused the chamber, similar to the sound of a flock of geese collecting near a lake. The event was a black-tie gala, themed ?A Return to Elegance,? which drew a few hundred members of TransGender San Francisco. Each year, its cotillion is a chance for new members of the transgender community to have a ?coming out,? to walk debutante-style across the stage, and to meet other members of the city's transsexual and transgender population.
The women continued to arrive, and a few men as well. Despite the mild San Francisco weather, many wore elegant heavy furs and were already sweating as they dropped them at the coat check. Heavy floral perfume saturated the air. Voices glissando-ed to falsetto and back. The elongated vowels were striking: It's so gooooood to seeeeeee yooooouu! What are you doooooooing these daaays? What a beeeeeeaaaauuuuutiful dress you are wearing!
Some of the gala attendees were clearly in the early stages of male-to-female transition or perhaps transvestites?choosing to live as men and dress as women for pleasure in their personal lives. A young woman moved through the crowd in a tight lacy black cocktail dress and a tiny, feathered pillbox hat. She looked completely ?biological??naturally female, lacking the broad shoulders and big hands that some transsexuals bemoan cannot be altered with surgery. Others stared at her in envy and whispered to each other as she passed.
As the show began, Allison Laureano, the president of TransGender San Francisco, wearing a dress inspired by Lara Turner and a hairstyle reminiscent of Rita Hayworth, took the front stage. After some opening jokes and banter, she introduced the candidates for Miss Transgender 2007. Later a rotund transwoman performer named Tommi Rose sang about a friend who had passed away from cancer years before. ?She once said not to cremate her body because silicon doesn't burn and it would be a bad, bad sight for everyone nearby,? said Rose, wearing a royal blue dress with so much sparkle that the ballroom's walls were bathed in an underwater glow.
Among the attendees, there were those who had undergone sexual reassignment surgery to give them the genitals of their desired gender, those who had changed their faces to be more feminine, and those who had added breasts. Others had their facial hair lasered away or their Adam's apples shaved off. But the one thing that seemed to make the most difference in establishing their new identity was the way they used their voices.
Tommi Rose possessed an amazingly versatile voice; she could reach into her upper registers easily and then smoothly transition back down to a bass to speak to her audience in an intimate-sounding way. Her glittery performance, full of jokes and poignant anecdotes, was observed by hundreds of transwomen and some transmen, munching on pasta salad at linen-covered tables. Alone on the stage under the spotlight, Tommi Rose represented the entire spectrum from man to woman; her voice was an acoustic medley of the struggles transgendered people go through as they move from one way of being in the world to another.

I find the word insulting and would not use it. If any of my trans friends choose to use this term that is their right. Just as I wouldn?t use the word ?queer? except perhaps where it is used formally as in a description of curriculum such as ?queer studies? at a university.

On the toilet thing, I've noticed several universities and clubs in the UK have started doing this. Apparently it's because some individuals depending on how far they are along in transitioning, may feel uncomfortable in the men's and women's toilets.

Na.
Ts women are vulnerable but in very different ways.
Even early transitioners {think late teens on}
are very different to young women.
Firstly, to get where we are, we either have a big support network
or we do it on our own, which despite being vulnerable,
makes us very streetwise.

A ts needs a lot of maintenance stuff just to look hot,
in a way that people-smugglers would know nothing about:
Think meds, bloods, hair removal...just the face hair for most ts who have not had IPL / lazer / electrolysis and so on.
Without all that a ts person would not be a sex slave, but a positive liability to any smuggler.
Also, trans is a taboo in most places.
Relative to a Day-one female sex worker coerced or otherwise
only a small % of people would pay for sex with one of us.
Brothels would not be interested.

So smugglers wouldn't bother.

Apparently, you have never flown on any of the Asian airlines and experienced their flight attendants, who are typically so "perfect" in their looks and in the execution of their duties that anyone who has flown an American carrier might conclude that they are, in fact, cyborgs of some sort, or even replicants of the "Blade Runner" variety.

That is not meant to impugn any of these flight attendants. Rather, it is an expression of what is expected of them by their bosses.

Horrific News

I have some horrific news to report. A transwoman was attacked at a McDonalds in Baltimore. She was so severely beaten that she went into a seizure. One thing that really disturbed me, in addition to this woman getting beaten, is that patrons (except for one older lady) and staff (it appears the manager did try to help) of the restaurant did nothing to halt the attack. Instead cell phone cameras were turned on to video the whole attack. My heart goes out to this woman and I sincerely hope that she makes a full recovery. She may require financial help with her medical bills. If so, I intend to donate and I will post a link here of where others may donate.

It is indeed a horrific act ... first and foremost by the 2 girls thugs who beat up the transwoman ... and then just as horrific none of the McDonalds employees coming to her aid (except for the Manager & older lady). It's almost as if everyone in there felt they were watching a reality television show with no consequences ... sad.

My heart goes out to the transwoman for a full recovery and I hope the two girls thugs are prosecuted to the fullest extent ...........

and in some way one can only hope that by this clip going viral that it will ultimately give more attention to the need for equal rights everywhere for trangendered people as loved human beings in society.

As of late last night, the LGBT alliance at my university is in touch with Equality Maryland to find avenues for providing financial assistance for medical treatment and to discuss how to pressure the state of Maryland to prosecute this as a hate crime.

I've just been finding out about this :( It's sickening.

On youtube, I found a video where a guy is congratulating the people who stood and watched :(
Anyway in this video he uses the term "trap"

"So, the lady who was beat up at Mcdonalds is a Trap"
I'm assuming this is a derogatory term? I've never heard it before.

See this post of mine for a definition of "trap."

Speedy recovery for the beaten lady.

It is sad, but cruelty is not reserved only for males. Females could be also evil.

It is quite disheartening that this happens as often as it does. I don't just mean with the woman that was beaten in the article, but the fact that there are so many cowardly people that prefer to take pictures or videos just so they can be the "first" to post them on YouTube or other social media.

Numerous fights, stabbings, and other violent crimes have had this occur. I just don't understand the mentality of people today. It's like their empathy "button" is turned off. I don't blame video games or television like some of the "experts" do. I think that people need to take responsibility for their own actions(or lack thereof, in the case of idiotic bystanders that would prefer to "egg on" the thugs perpetrating these acts of cowardice).

Standing by and doing nothing because your life could seriously be in danger(a person could have a weapon for one thing) is one thing, but standing by acting like you are at a party is another. In this case I think the women could have been prevented from further hurting the woman being attacked, but the majority of people chose not to. While not as guilty as the cowardly woman doing the attacking, they are certainly guilty of gross indifference.

I just hope the woman makes a full recovery (and I hope that her continued progress can be posted in this thread), and that the two gutless pukes get sentenced to a decent amount of jailtime.:(

I hope Texass runs out of oil soon. :censored:

Texas' GOP House of Reps, noble guardians of our morality, have passed a bill requiring any public college with a resource center on "alternative" sexuality to provide equal funding to one promoting "traditional values," presumably like date rape and other beer-fueled heterosexual rampages. Young Conservatives hope this will ultimately close centers that "encourage folks who consider themselves homosexuals to go on considering themselves as such." Because God forbid we are allowed to be who we feel ourselves to be. People march here, an outraged protest here.

Equal time? You've got to be fucking kidding me. The entire culture is heteronormative. You don't need counseling centers for people for straight people. How often are heterosexuals attacked because they're straight?

This is like the people who claim same sex marriage is a special law because it's only for one specific group, which completely denies the fact that only heterosexuals can get married.

That is "balance" for "balance's" sake. That is to say: it's not really about balance and neither should it be. Intolerance should have no say.

Is this the same people who ask for creationism to have equal time in the classroom?

Today I raised a motion in the faculty senate at my university to protest this outrage at Oklahoma State University, where a faculty member has been denied tenure because she is a transsexual and her "lifestyle" is offensive to the Baptist beliefs of the vice president of academic affairs. I also submitted a motion to specify that our university can NEVER use any such reason for denying tenure (not that we would, but it's good to put it on the record).

Here's the story:

I'm not familiar with rules in US, but I don't understand, what religious beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientations and transgenderism have to do with State University? State University must be equal for all citizens, students and stuff without discrimination. Private faculties could have some different rules, because they are private property and it depends on owners.

I don't know where you're from. Each state (what are called provinces in most other countries) in the United States has its own rules. Some national rules supersede those, but when it comes to many social issues there are no federal protections. So, a state in the "Bible belt" -- such Oklahoma, the state in question here -- often tries to get away with shit like this, until a court case makes its way into the federal system and, perhaps, the federal justices overrule the state's decision.

The United States is not a land of equality for all its citizens with respect to religious beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientation, and transgenderism. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar.
